Romance in the shadows of our daydreams
more than 1,000 russians were arrested in protests in 44 cities over the last six hours. some well-known activists were preemptively arrested as they left their house; others were arrested as soon as they unfurled placards. by the looks of it, there were large protests in st. petersburg. over 100 local government officials signed a letter opposing war, and over 170 journalists and intellectual figures signed a similar letter. this is a promising sign, but it’s feeble. as war drags on, protests will grow.
russian civil society is battered and demoralized; its most prominent figures have either been murdered or jailed. i predict that russia will become “totalitarianized” in the coming weeks, with full control over the internet and social media. it isn’t clear how extensive this will be, or how quickly it will happen. already, moscow’s largest theater announced that anyone disrupting the performances to say anything about the war will be arrested for treason. this has severe ramifications for what the postwar occupation of ukraine will look like
when e.e. cummings said “i’ll live my life if it kills me”
when andrea gibson said “i suppose i love this life, in spite of my clenched fist.” & when ellen bass said “to love life, to love it even when you have no stomach for it”
—the fact that NOBODY is willing to push me up against the wall, kiss me while i sip coffee because they want to taste caffeine through my lips, is utterly heartbreaking
I promise you, I beg of you all, shutting the fuck up and stepping away from social media to actually educate yourself about a crisis event from reputable sources will always be SO much more productive than blindly reblogging/retweeting fearmongering misinformation-riddled posts and literal military donation links from anonymous people on the internet.
Forcing schools to out students six weeks after learning about their sexual orientation puts LGBTQ+ youth in danger. Florida schools should be a place where kids feel supported, not scared.
This bill already required schools to inform families that their children identify as LGBTQ+ upon coming out. Outing students was not a requirement when believed that doing so might lead to abuse, neglect, or abandonment. With this amendment, there is no longer a way around it.
This bill will force children to hide who they are in fear of being outed. Our youth will be at an even greater risk of abuse, neglect, and even homelessness. This bill is dangerous for LGBTQ+ students and harmful to education.
Florida’s Don’t Say Gay amendment is not okay. Do better, Ron DeSantis.

Unpopular Dark Academia topic - Origami
OK, hear me out. What can be possibly more dark academic than leaving cranes with secret messages in the library? Or sending love notes in latin in a butterfly? Putting origami pressed hearts in random books? Giving paper flowers to your friends? Leaving a poem in a dragon on the park bench where you have been reading for the past 2 hours? It's just me?

“There was a grand piano, too, and Charles was playing, a glass of whiskey on the seat beside him. He was a little drunk; the Chopin was slurred and fluid, the notes melting sleepily into one another. A breeze stirred the heavy, moth-eaten velvet curtains, ruffling his hair.”
