Pros and Cons Mass Communication Through Web & Media
As we live in a technological era,
The internet allows us to communicate with many effective tools such as today's technologies like Instagram, Twitter, Youtube etc. which also media could be included in it. Even with Instant Messaging Apps and Developments, people can communicate with each other immediately. But this does not mean this era does not have its problems to reach its maximum potential. We are still having problems such as fragmented service providers. Even in some cases, there are more serious problems to deal with examples of online anonymity, instantaneous communication, poor data protection and security breaches.
The internet has provided many effective communication tools like e-mail, mailing lists, chat services, conferencing through the web, blogs, and RSS feeds. Lately with the evolution of web developments introduced us to social networking sites such as Twitter, Instagram, Discord, and Facebook have also joined the Internet scene which allows you to communicate one-to-one or one-to-many. They also enable communication worldwide and I strongly believe it has shortened the distance between people who are far away from each other.
However, with all these web and software developments the Internet and media could be dangerous place while communicating. For instance, the internet is a public network. Between communications, our data passes through a lot of stops. A third party may be able to intercept any unencrypted communications you send. This may result in your personal information leakage. Or in another case, In 2013, Notre Dame football star Manti Te'o claimed he was involved in an online relationship with a woman who turned out not to exist, resulting in a massive scandal and PR debacle for the star. Which is an example of online anonymity.
In conclusion, the internet has a great variety of communication tools which evolved throughout the years. Right now it is very easy to reach millions or communicate with someone on the other side of the world in seconds. But it could also be dangerous for your data, privacy and security due to malicious intend of third-party individuals.
