Artist, illustrator and designer Lisa Ericson paints hyperrealistic images of imaginary animals, hybrids that intertwine species.
First became known for her photo-realistic renderings of “mouser-flies” (rodents with butterfly wings) and subsequently paintings of fish whose sprawling fins act as habitats for smaller species in need of protection, Lisa Ericson likes playing with the fluidity of boundaries and interdependency of natural infrastructures.
The depth of her feeling shines through in her gorgeous depictions of supernatural beings which look as though they could be photographs taken on a night safari or deep-dive.
Portland-based artist’s solo show “Doom & Bloom” is on view in Los Angeles, from October 7 to November 11, 2023.
