the residents of gotham were despondent. their thoughts seemed to reflect the tired gray drabness of its buildings. why on earth xavier thought the x-men should be based here was beyond her - it was a city that even its own citizens seemed to despise. unhappiness projected itself well enough, and the (un)happy families roaming the park hardly had adequate psychic shields to help her block them out. emma pressed a hand to her forehead, lips downturned in a pout.
“ how depressing this city is,” she murmured. “i do hope the night-life is better.”
peter had to cling to familiarity. he sat on the park bench, his head tilted so his face could soak in the warmth of the sun. it was for a moment that he forgot where he was, and why he was there, just felt like the middle of new york on a busy day. emma's words brought him back to reality, cracking an eye to look over at her. ' it's not depressing if you close your eyes and pretend we're home. ' he closed his eyes again, taking a deep breath in. ' just like new york. vaguely disgusting but so comforting. '
