Yo @ True Crime Community - what’s your opinion on “13 Reasons Why”? I’ve started it - Everyone I know (and a lot of Tumblr) say it’s really triggering for suicide and rape (which I don’t doubt it is) but I’m wondering if any of you have seen it? I know a lot of us have seen a lot of fucked up stuff, emotionally damaging documentaries and graphic footage- so what was it like for any of you who have already a somewhat built-up tolerance to triggering material?
Is it possible to be bored - disappointed and triggered all at the same time?
Yes, I was all of those things by the end of 13 Reasons. I feel like the rape scenes are definitely more triggering than looking at that type of thing from a tcc standpoint, because we read about it in a very clinical matter of fact way, whereas the rape scenes are filmed point-of-view and there is clear terror from the victim… (hey look big announcement:) I have experienced rape and this is the first time in the 6 years since it happened that I’ve felt the need to skip the rape scenes in something. Way too real. As for the rest of the show I have to say, there’s a lot of parts that aren’t filmed very clearly, or the story isn’t made very clear. There’s a lot of people who you don’t really feel like their story is wrapped up, I dunno. I didn’t read the book, but if you did and you enjoyed the book then I’d just leave the series alone.
Agreed
