I think an interesting fic idea is that Ange basically did the rogue Menga thing on its own volition. Basically, the idea is that the Mega Energy ends up making Ange sentient and it knew what its purpose was. But after seeing how the people of Lumiose act, it started to wear at Ange's psyche. Like what happened to Suguru Geto from JJK.
And eventually, what broke the Tower's back, was these 3 images:
Ange saw this injustice. And snapped. These children, CHILDREN, stopped an entire evil team with help and what does the city do? They acted like they didn't exist or even mock them. And the followers of the evil team acted like nothing had happened. That was when Ange changed. Why bother protecting them if the citizens act like this? It was going to do one thing:
Kill everyone in the city and beyond.
I hope I could phrase it better but that's the general idea
That is an interesting idea, and can bring some philosophical questions relating to technology and sentience. It also gives more credence to AZ treating Lumiose as a living being, which doesn't get any followup from that perspective. I know that this is a reflection of how Shintoism is animist and believes everything has a living spirits, but it'd be nice to actually meet the spirit of Lumiose.
However, this idea raises some plot holes: how did Ange know the Vaniville kids defeated Team Flare? It's not connected to AZ in a way where it can see through his eyes, hear what he hears, or shares his thoughts. Sure it knows Team Flare exists, but that doesn't mean it'd register it as a threat either. It might even think Team Flare is using it for good, since Lysandre had to have come up here and talk about how he's going to make the world beautiful again. Certainly, Ange must be aware of the social and economic inequality that exists in Lumiose, that is the reason why Team Flare exists. However, there is the question of who exactly it protects. It was made during a time where hierarchy was based on being born in the right family aka feudalism, and "lived" to see when that hierarchy changed to be based on who has the money aka capitalism. No one told it who exactly it has to protect. Would it protect the rulers or the ruled? And with Lysandre being its first contact in maybe centuries, it probably would side with Lysandre and his supporters because that's what it was told, not because it made its own judgement that everyone is unworthy.
Furthermore, I have to point out that the Lumiosians didn't believe Lysandre was actually gonna kill everyone. That's why they dismissed his announcement. After all, it's easy to write off as someone crazy when they say something like that until they actually were proven to bring harm. This has happened in real life, most recently with Trump's second election being downplayed by a lot of Americans as "Well we survived him before, we can survive him again", which was instantly proven wrong with his increased repression of immigrants and their many supporters.
The ending of XY highlights that class inequality is the real driver of conflict in society. Team Flare, a genocidal cult by the rich and for the rich, best exemplifies it where they find everyone poorer than them worth wiping away so they can have all of the dwindling resources. Even those who don't support them internalize that classism to some extent and make them prejudiced to others. Those are very correct facts. But the real problem of the ending is that both Kusaka and Yamamoto don't know the way forward from that. They are sincere in their empathy for the marginalized and the downtrodden, as proven for not just the Vaniville kids and Emma, but for Whitley, Gladion, Lillie, Bede, and now Scarlet. However, they have no answers on how to solve their plight other than to keep hoping and actively choose to help people even if they won't give back anything. That's no moral failings of theirs, those are seemingly daunting questions to answer and for very obvious reasons, those in charge of our capitalist society don't want people considering other alternatives from them.
However, Kusaka and Yamamoto did not seem to realize the answer was what they have written: it's the youth and the workers, who have nothing to their name, that will create a better society. Team Flare was defeated not just because they're small in numbers, but because they are extremely hierarchical and elitist who underestimated the workers and youth. They could not quickly shift gears when plans go wrong because all final decisions fell upon Lysandre, who is single-minded in completing his goal of annihilation now. The Vaniville kids and their allies, who all discussed and agreed upon the methods of how to defeat Team Flare, of helping each other out despite or because of their suffering (which X has noted when talking to Emma at the end) is what allowed them to emerge triumphant. Now, they must not focus on defeating just extreme threats like Team Flare, but their origin: the capitalist system, the same system that drove X drove into isolation and made him a paranoid and depressed boy who could not enjoy battling as he once did, and compelled Emma to work in an extremely dangerous and illegal job, all for the pursuit of profit.
