Honestly everyone who thought Adrien's advice was bad in Chameleon woulda fallen right into Lila's trap and gotten expelled because direct public callout approaches don't work with her
We're not ready for that conversation tho
Can we have that conversation anyway?
Yeah. We can. Chameleon was Adrien understanding from how both Ladybug’s calling Lila out in Vulpina out and him approaching her nicely in this episode resulted in her being Akumatized, and him giving Marinette the advice was him learning from both of those experiences. The message was clear. Direct confrontation will not work with her and will cause her to turn it back at them in some way, and he was trying to relay that information to her the only way he could.
It happens over and over again until Ladybug(the episode) where it comes to a point where the fact that Marinette doesn’t like her and has continuously in the past tried to use direct confrontation is used against her, and because Lila planned ahead for her same-as-always reaction Marinette was left unable to defend herself.
Her doing anything other than what she did in Chameleon would have only given her more fuel to be used against her. Again, just because you didn’t like what Adrien said in the episode did not make him wrong.
