“Do you ever wonder if it might just never work out?” Miri asks Wanda. She didn’t have a very long romantic history–a boyfriend she’d only kissed once before she broke up with him, a couple hook-ups, and Cassie– but she did wonder, seeing others falling in love, if she was just falling behind.

“There have been a few times where I’ve thought maybe it’d just be easier to just give in and settle down or whatever you want to call it.” Wanda had had her fair share of on again, off again relationships through out her life, most of which ended because of need to put herself and her children first.

she stops shrinking as wanda talks, focusing on the words enough to halt her body’s reaction to her feelings at the moment, “we told my mom I’m alive,” her voice is dull, and she figures if anyone could help, maybe it’s the woman who brought her dad back, “she didn’t take me still being a hero well. told me to leave.” and sure enough, she begins to shrink once more.

“Come here, Sweetheart, let me give you a hug,” Wanda said as she wrapped her arms around Cassie. She’d known Cassie since they were a child, watched them grow up with her own children, she knew what it was like to lose a child herself, the pain of not wanting to get out of bed after losing the child you carried inside you for nine months, but never in her life could she she imagine abandoning her child because they wanted to be a hero. “I know it hurts right now, angel, but your mom is probably just scared of losing you again, she’ll come around, and if she doesn’t it’s her loss, because you are such an amazing person, Cassie and I am so incredibly lucky to have you in my life.”

“Well being a father brings up something I’ve wanted to tell you. It probably won’t be for a while yet, but Teddy and I agreed that someday we’d like to have kids. Not soon, but like someday.”

“I-I’ll be fine,” which was absolutely not the case as the now-three-foot-tall girl sat on the roof of the building, her knees pulled up to her chin, staring off as sadness radiated from her. she slowly kept shrinking, “nothin’ to see here,” she’s quiet, and her normal perkiness is gone as her mind takes over and the feeling of being small translates quite literally.

“It’s okay if you’re not fine, Cassie..” Wanda said, reassuring the girl. “What’s wrong? Do you want to talk about it? I can go if you don’t, but just know that I’m here if you do.”

“Oh Mum.” Miri laughs, shaking her head. “I can’t believe it either. Maybe everyone was a bit worried about correcting you.” Either as Scarlet Witch or as a teacher. But being her mum, Miri could laugh. “So you know now right?”

“Well I know now.. I’m not thrilled about how single it makes me feel, but I know.”

“I can understand that. If you ever want to talk about it I’ll listen you know.” Billy loves his grandfather, but he also knows that no one was perfect. Especially not Erik, and it was important to know family history. He was old enough for that right?

“well trust me when i say you have to. it…” she pauses for a second, a smile coming to her face as her mind travels to her unexpected fun with clint lately, “it’s very nice. and besides, the chill is meant to relax you after all,” she allows a moment of her brow wiggling, “hey, we’re almost 50 and we’re fabulous. Don’t feel shame about age, that’s so… patriarchal Wanda,” she proclaims, tossing green tresses behind her back.

“What’s with that look?” Wanda asked her sister before it clicked, “Lorna, who have you been sleeping with?” The older sister laughed. “I look damn good for my age, thank you very much, but that’s because I’ve been using magic on myself to keep everything this way for years.”
