meeting a deity, one he’s only heard of in stories during his rounds at the docks and an ecstatic retelling from lyria, is not something he had expected upon setting foot in the castle grounds. especially not at this hour when the lake is nothing but silent, the creatures found within its depths waiting, waiting, for just one reckless action to drown them in their ferocity.

even SHIVA, a being akin to ethereal strength and godhood in lancelot’s eyes, might be overwhelmed at their sheer force, granted his powers had also been taken away upon being transferred into this place

regardless, lancelot greets him with a slight bow; an offer of reverence, an act of subservience. there is only so much he can do as a commander in the face of a god’s wrath after all, and he would not risk dying if he can avoid it at the start.

for a moment, he remembers himself standing by the grave of their then-king, wondering where in those years of relentless training and nights of camaraderie did it all fall apart. back then he was so lost, so uncertain of where he should rebuild from the ashes siegfried left. if it had not been for vane who never tire of offering support in every way he could, lancelot would still be standing in that same position years ago, consumed by helplessness and pessimism.

but that was all in the past, and beside him stands someone who might need the same push vane had given him. if it helps any, then...

lancelot inhales, lets the oxygen wash out the lingering ashes at the base of his lungs before speaking. “ i’ve been in the same place before, once, ” he replies, a wistful sigh already out of his mouth before he can catch it. “ it’s hard, isn’t it? of course i do not mean to assume what you feel since we are two different people. but i hope you’ll keep moving forward, regardless. believe in yourself if you have nothing else left anymore. ”

      “ i’m not allowed to pass here? ” he knows he isn’t allowed to go a level lower than his current floor, had heard and asked about it even, but the clear refusal to his request does not leave him still, vexation clinging onto every vowel as he steps away from the gatekeepers. for whatever reason, the people from both upper and lower levels agreed to keep to themselves, rejecting the taste of change even before they can glimpse it. pride and stubbornness can only go so far to prevent your own home from decaying and this very display of it confuses him so.

a sigh eventually escapes him as he watches on in silence, mind whirring with ideas to better each community but not having connections enough to reach. perhaps he’s being too nosy over a matter that is none if his concern but he knows, he’s aware, that it doesn’t feel right to him. “ i’m in a completely different place and yet people still refuse to co-exist... ”

“Weeeeell, I don’t think I bruised too badly. But you know, with my complexion…” Oh, what a fair lady. Though she could scramble her way to find balance on the branch, if someone was to graciously offer… well, she always took what she got ( of which good happenings were rare and meager in quantity ).

“I suppose I could use the help of such a gracious person!” With a bit of effort she’s landed, though she definitely took upon the other’s arm to steady herself, beaming. “Well! That saved me plenty of trouble. I owe you one.”

      “ please, it was nothing. i’m just glad you aren’t badly hurt, ” lancelot replies with a steady smile, gaze flitting to and fro her limbs to assuage his own worries. certain injuries aren’t noticeable until you’re already bleeding out in the open and he has seen far too many cases of such that he would not stay still until he can be certain.

      “ still,  that could’ve been dangerous. how come you ended up in that position, if i may ask? ”

“But first, it has to get worse.” Poetic, coming from someone hanging off of the tree by her legs ( it doesn’t quite look like it was by choice, either ).

      “ wha—! are you alright, miss?! do you need help getting down? ”

and lancelot swiftly positions himself under the branch she’s precariously hanging off of, arms already outstretched to the side to catch her should she fall.

a question spoken for no one to answer, words left to undulate and hang in the mystifying air that surrounds the city of spirale. lancelot had ignored the warnings a few days ago thinking there would be no harm done should he step out into that unknown — reports did say that the most escaping would do is to make one lose consciousness, only for escapees to wake back in their temporary residence — and so he did; brazenly leaving only to pass out thereafter. it was an experience that left him questions instead of a need to stay away.

lancelot reaches out to that curious boundary once more, fingers curling into his palm as if to capture something he couldn’t see, before he releases a questioning hum.
