Day 118: Fire/Poison

Solvotile

Solvotile constantly consumes vegetable matter, which it collects and stores in its gullet, where it ferments into thick sludge. At any time, Solvotile may choose to spit up some of this goo, which immediately ignites upon contact with a target. Pokémon rangers must carefully keep track of Solvotile populations, as sufficiently large numbers of them can strip a forest bare within days, leaving a burning wasteland in their wake.

Bizarrely, the fermented goop that Solvotile produces is actually edible in small doses, though those that choose to imbibe it must be wary of its inebriating effects. Connoisseurs of Solvotile ooze will bottle the liquid and allow it to ferment in a more controlled environment, increasing its palatability. Though the liquid is still utterly vile to most people, it can still fetch high prices on the right market.

Day 48: Bug Eeveelution

Moulteon

Eevee evolves into Moulteon upon level up while holding a Shed Shell.

This curious Eeveelution, although only recently discovered, reveals a link between ancient Eevee ancestors and arthropods, giving Pokémon scientists new insight into the secrets behind Eevee’s infamously unstable genetic makeup. This latent invertebrate DNA could be the clue Pokémon scientists have been looking for unto understanding the true adaptive potential of Eevee.

It is now believed that ancient ancestors of Eevee went through a pupal stage, much as many modern Bug Pokémon do, but a highly specialized one easily influenced by environmental factors. There is ongoing research as to how exactly Eevee are able to accelerate their evolution such that this intermediate stage is skipped, but evolution enthusiasts and experts alike are confident this could reveal why occasionally Pokémon, both trained and wild, seem to have evolved before their proper time.

Although the first recorded successful Moulteon evolution was the result of careful experimentation in a laboratory environment, Pokémon Professors and trainers alike have come to realize that modern Eevee are able to evolve into Moulteon simply through exposure to Shed Shells, strengthening the pupal theories. As to why this had never worked before, Pokémon scientists speculate it might be related to the fact that Eevee, long thought extinct in the wild, have begun to appear in isolated pockets around the world. These new Eevee, thought to be the descendants of escapees from black market Eevee farms, may be even more genetically unstable than normal, thanks to overbreeding with Ditto.
