My name is Erica (not with a “k”), and my main blog is e-v-roslyn.

(I’m also known for creating a complete weather report playlist on YouTube for you to listen to, and I do my best to keep that playlist updated.)

This is my Welcome to Night Vale side blog where I reblog fan content and occasionally upload WTNV audio clips. In the future, I’ll see what else I can do with this blog, but for now, this is mostly an archival fanart blog.

I try to thoroughly tag each post appropriately to make navigating through this blog simple and easy. I am currently working on a navigation page, complete with links, and I’ll add that here as soon as it’s completed. I tag artists’ names so you can choose to filter the content by your favorite artists, and I have specified tags for characters, mediums, and episodes.

I also have several warning tags in place so far. These tags are:

If you want me to add a specific warning tag that isn’t listed here or if I don’t have something tagged appropriately, please message me privately so I can get to work on fixing that.

Please know that this blog is specifically curated towards my own tastes and that I am sharing the works I like with you. Therefore, I won’t reblog every single piece of fan-made content I find, either because it doesn’t match my guidelines I have set up for this blog or for other reasons that are purely my own.

If you want me to reblog a specific work/artist, whether it’s your own or someone else’s, feel free to message me as long as the work meets these following guidelines:

I reblog completed works only. Character studies and practice sketches do not count as completed works.

Fanart should be digital or scanned in for visual quality. I may reblog purely traditional mediums of art if it’s photographed with quality lighting.

No explicit/18+ content. Suggestive content, such as partial nudity/innuendoes, is fine.

No crossovers and no alternate universes (AUs) beyond the realm of canonical possibility. This is a weird rule, I know, but my tagging system is already pretty complicated as it is and having to account for other characters and fandoms will only make that all the more confusing on my end. Headcanons and fan theories are acceptable and welcomed.

No reposts or stolen content. I will not reblog reposted works unless there is a link to the official source AND consent given by the creator to have their work distributed in this manner.

In terms of mediums of fan-made content I’ll reblog, I am accepting fanart, fanfiction, AMVs/Animatics, and memes.

Thank you for reading and respecting the guidelines for this blog. I am also open for suggestions on how to better improve my tagging system and make this content I’m sharing more accessible to a wider audience. Drawlloween Day 24: Skeleton

His first year in Night Vale had been too stressful, too full of worry and fear and science to attend Cecil’s annual Halloween party, despite the insistence of pretty much everyone that it was the event of the season. Priorities were not where they should be; he had not had the chance to understand. The fateful event under lane five and a night under the lights above the Arby’s made things so much clearer.

This year when the invitation arrives with Cecil’s elaborate looping script in royal purple and blood red, Carlos digs through the handful of cardboard moving boxes he never bothered to unpack for an outfit he has not worn in many years. Memories of his last Día de Muertos flood his mind; if he closes his eyes he can still smell the sugar from the candies and the fire from the burning lights, the laughter of the family he may well never see again. He considers dropping the coat back into the box and shutting it all away again, but no. He wants to share this part of himself with his future, too. Priorities.

He has to clean the outfit himself if he doesn’t want Cecil to find out–he swears Cecil has eyes all over, with the way this town gossips. It takes a few hours to meticulously clean the dust and cobwebs from between the pearls, and more than a few tries to get the make-up just right.

The look on his boyfriend’s face when he walks into the party makes it all worth it.

The Triptych of Time

Hi, all you beautiful people!!!

I'm taking a short break from this blog to work on a new WTNV fanfiction I've been meaning to write for a while now.

This work is still in progress, but I intend it to be rated M for mature audiences, so please read the tags and content warnings before viewing. The first chapter is a preface and should be acceptable for all audiences.

PREFACE

Telling this story linearly wouldn’t make sense, because this story is about time. Time is incessant and strange. We have only begun to understand what time is, and how we only simplify our experience of time in order to prevent humans from becoming overwhelmed with the full concepts of truth and eternity. If we properly understood what time is, or was, or will be, then how could we function as a society?

Three men must learn for themselves just how strange their relationship with the concept of time is. Their experiences with the non-linear passage of time may lead to uncertainty, distrust, and fear for the worst possible outcomes.

When telling a story about time, does it make sense to follow linear time? Where would that story begin? Where would it end? By beginning a story after the birth of time, and by deciding to end a story anytime before the heat death of the universe, at a point in the distant future where time would become meaningless, one could argue that all stories already deviate from linear consistency. What’s a little more inconsistency in the grand scheme of things?

We begin our story at the end of another. This isn’t a sequel, but more of an addendum. A divergence…. A split between what you know and what you don’t yet know what you don’t know. Let’s agree to trust that you, the reader, are already familiar with how this other story ends. You may also be aware that the other story doesn’t end where this story picks up, and that this story doesn’t follow the continuity of that other story. Just forget about that for a moment. That’s why you’re here, after all, isn’t it? To explore ideas and deviations? Probably while browsing through a non-profit, ad-free website that archives and protects the transformative works of creators and storytellers of all kinds?

Let’s get back on topic.

Three men. Three stories. Not told through traditional linear storytelling, but told in a way that will make sense to you soon enough.

TRAVIS MCELROY: Oof.

JUSTIN: …telling his listeners, for instance, that my scones lack salt and are tasteless, which is ridiculous.

TRAVIS: No!

JUSTIN: I am an excellent scone baker. Everybody who’s ever made scones feels like they’re good at scones.

TRAVIS: Well, if you can make them to begin with, it’s already an achievement.

JUSTIN: Recently, we have reached a point of understanding and are now quite friendly. Sometimes, however, I feel like his niceness can be just as aggressive as his former meanness. He still talks about me on the radio, and he shouts compliments about me to the government agents tasked with watching my house. It’s overly friendly, and it makes both me and the government agents feel uncomfortable. How can I help him find a balance between his former malice and his current well intentioned but overly friendly behavior? What do you think, Trav?

[A snippet of the Night Vale ending theme abruptly transitions into strong piano music]

JUSTIN: How about you need to start- I guess doing more neutral things?

TRAVIS: Uh-huh.

JUSTIN: For him to observe? Um, scamming it along-

TRAVIS: Standing right between the, right between the lines.

JUSTIN: Yeah. Standing on your lawn, uh, with as neutral a face as you can, wearing all khaki, is a good place to start. Um…

TRAVIS: Mhm. Maybe like a big sandwich baggie full of porridge or oatmeal-

JUSTIN: That’s a good one.

TRAVIS: - because it’s like, “Thank you for this, it isn’t convenient but I appreciate the thought and oh my gosh, these two just, cancelled each other out.

JUSTIN: Yeah.

TRAVIS: And maybe, uh, maybe like, uh… fly a kite, but it’s really bland and maybe like made out of like some kind of like plain white paper.

JUSTIN: Yes. That’s, yeah, absolutely. Like, informational- like, you know the parts of the tax form you that don’t have to send back but you print off anyway because you’re a bad boy…

TRAVIS: Yes. Perfect.

JUSTIN: Just make a kite out of those really boring things-

TRAVIS: Yes.

JUSTIN: - and it’s like, neutral.

TRAVIS: This is perfect. Right? Make- [Excited gasp] Make a kite out of like, saran wrap. Right?

JUSTIN: That’s gonna- you’re getting- you’re getting into some challenging aerodynamics ideas, Travis.

TRAVIS: That’s fair, that’s fair.

JUSTIN: Like really challenging.

TRAVIS: That’s fair. Uhh, maybe, okay, here’s a- You make some scones, right. Half of them: delicious. Half of them: gross. Right?

JUSTIN: Hmm.

TRAVIS: And then you just kind of mix and match.

JUSTIN: Okay, here’s, here’s some- I wanna red flag one of these.

TRAVIS: Okay.

JUSTIN: If they get one of the bad scones first, they’re never gonna go back for a good one.

TRAVIS: Oh, fair. Yeah, yeah.

JUSTIN: You noticed? [Laughs] Like, you’re not gonna house that bad one and then be like, "Lemme check- let me try, let me find out. Let me try one more time.”

TRAVIS: Okay, we do- how about, like, a perfectly made scone-

JUSTIN: Yes.

TRAVIS: - that is flavored like cut grass.

JUSTIN: [Opens mouth, pauses] … Yeah, that’s neutral.
