I need this dress.
Tights and boots. Always a good combination.
“While those who feel fine waltzing into a five-star restaurant in a Hooters T-shirt and flip-flops might disagree, our wardrobe choices absolutely do reflect our personality, character, and judgment. Your clothes are your first means of communicating who you are to the world, and they often speak volumes, whether you like it or not.” Steven Petrow explains business attire, festive attire, and formal attire for the Huffington Post.
A friend of mine did my hair and makeup for my birthday. It was an absolute fashion dream come true for me. Why? I adore vintage/pinup inspired looks.
I also learned how to put on fake eyelashes and used my first eyelash curler. Baby femme is growing up.
I also have to brag about one of my birthday presents: my first pair of Fluevogs. They are insanely comfortable. Seriously. I can stomp around in them all day and my feet never hurt. The Fluevog store in NYC is a dream... I fell in love with about 6 pairs of shoes. They are much pricier than I can really dream of buying for myself right now, but the quality is superb and if you're going to splurge on shoes, get a pair. Also, if something should happen to your heel, Fluevog can replace them. Win!
Dress: Stop Staring (from WWII museum), Shoes: Fluevog- Mini Zaza in black and white, Earrings: Pearls (gift), Makeup: Bare escentuals base, L'oreal mascara, various sephora eye shadow compacts, sephora fake lashes and lash glue

February 27, 2012 - My second crocheting project, completed! :D
I love, love, love giant chunky scarves. (I also love, love, love that this one is made and modeled by my lovely girlfriend).

Amber beads, Boots: Clarks, Tote: Tignanello, Dress: Michael Kors, Raincoat: MICHAEL by Michael Kors
As per usual, my Sociology professor looked adorable. This week she was rocking a green khaki safari dress with knee high boots and chunky amber beads. Whenever I try on safari dresses I look somewhat shapeless and utilitarian, but she made it look cute with the boots and feminine necklace. Her red leather (pleather?) bag and raincoat were practical for dreary early spring weather in Cincinnati and carrying around piles of books.

Blazer: Topshop, Blouse: Jones New York, Slacks: Banana Republic, Shoes: Saucony, Socks: Joy of Socks, Watch: DKNY, Bracelet: Alpaca Mexico inlayed bracelet via Etsy
One of my professors has the best style ever. At first, I thought she was cute. Then I realized that the only reason I wanted to undress her was so I could steal her clothes.
Thus, before the quarter ends, I realized I better take some style notes for the future. Thus, I present, "Style from the SOC classroom #1" featuring an adorable 3/4 sleeve rose blazer over a ruffled tuxedo shirt paired with black slacks, pink socks, Saucony sneakers, and some simple jewelry.

ahhhh shit so hipster
This is so pretty. Not sure I could pull it off, let alone paint my nails so intricately. My goal is usually simple: get the paint on the nail, not all over the rest of the finger.

As promised.. The outfit that makes me feel "butch"
"leather" jacket: anchor blue, boots: sears, jeans: jcpenney, Hankey: michaels, scarf: target

Vest: Van Heusen, Shirt: New York & Company, Jeans: Calvin Kline Jeans, Boots: Decree (JC Penny)
I have been trying to figure out how to wear this vest forever. I always feel a little "butcher", a little tougher, and a bit more visibly queer when I wear vests. I feel like I can take on the world. That said, this vest is both black and brown and doesn't seem to match anything. I think I made it work today by pairing it with dark jeans and a colorful shirt, but I have yet to be happy pairing it with black slacks or brown pants. What do you think? Can it be done?

Courticus Color Challenge
My brain is totally fried, fellow fashionistas, but I wanted to share with you the results of my color challenge!
First off, let me apologize that I have yet to figure out a better means of taking pictures than the iphone in the mirror thing. At some point.. I will follow through with lovely pictures and a beautiful collage a la Rae.
If the outfit seems familiar, that's b/c it is basically identical to my last challenge. Doh! Didn't realize till I uploaded things and went back through the tumblr. On the flip side, I love that with a few colors, I can change up an old favorite outfit!
Sweater: Merona (Target), Dress: old navy, Boots: Mountain Sole Women’s Boot Paige (Sears),Earrings: gift from my sister, Watch: Silver Brighton (gift), Tights: Target

Challenging my Color Palate
Sweater: Old Navy, Camisole: Kirkland Signature (Costco), Scarf: No idea (gift), Jeans: Earl Jean, Boots: Clarks Artisan Collection
I was all excited for Courtius's challenge. I pledged to myself, "I will do this challenge the next day I teach, on Friday."
Of course, I picked the worst possible day to try to look cute. When I say it was cold today, I mean it. I am talking 19 degree weather with a three degree windchill. I am talking wind gusts up to 40 mpg. I am talking nonstop snow flurries. So, the challenge became more complicated: not only did I need to push my color comfort zone, but I needed to do so in the warmest way possible.
To further complicate the matter, I have come to the conclusion that the amount of color in a given piece of clothing is inversely related to how warm said piece of clothing is. I have beautiful, skimpy bathing suits in vivid shades. When it is 19 degrees out, everything warm enough to wear is black, brown, grey, blue, or burgundy. Lacking oranges, pinks, or yellows- the colors that would push my fashion comfort zone, I decided to combine colors and patterns in a way I usually avoid.
Hence, the green and white stripped sweater with the coral colored undershirt. I accessorized with the pink, brown, and burgundy plaid scarf. When it is this cold, jewelry is just a thing to freeze against your skin. I finished the outfit off with a warm, thick, dark pair of jeans (perfectly acceptable to teach in, especially when it is freezing, especially on a Friday) and waterproof, warm, leather boots in a brownish/burgundy. Not my best take on a challenge, but at least it was a new pairing of items in my closet.

Alright lovely ladies, here's our next challenge. Let's see a cute work outfit that challenges your closet's color palette. Assemble an awesome ensemble that pairs or groups colors that you wouldn't normally wear together! (egg photo included because I really wish I had something that color)
Thought I'd show you fashionistas what I can do when inspired and on vacation
Courticus' Fashion(ish) Resolutions
I've spent most of this week considering what makes me happy and what I really want. I just moved into a great space, but I'm not unpacking at a great rate because I've been thinking so hard about what I want the spaces to be and how I want them to look and function. In the same sense, I've been considering what sorts of goals, intentions and resolutions I want to set for the new year for myself. I was eager to take up Rae's challenge to set some fashion resolutions, but I wanted to ponder it with equal importance. So here goes (sorry if this gets long): 1) Dress for the body I have. As I've been building my roller derby body and training for a (very quickly approaching) Tough Mudder challenge, my body has changed and is continuing to change. I think I'm dressing for what I think my body looks like and somehow simultaneously what I think it SHOULD look like. Neither are working super well, so it's a good time to change that. 2) Explore color. I tend to stick to earthy neutrals and dark tones probably 6/7 days of the week. I'd like to incorporate more color into my wardrobe and maybe even into my hair. 3) Maintain my hairstyle, whatever it may be. For whatever reasons, my hair has a huge impact on how I feel about myself. The more variety and the more stylish I can feel about it, the more put together and less sloppy I feel. That good or bad energy seeps into the rest of my life too and so it's important to me that I find a way to maintain it and dress it up and keep my do looking sorta cute. This might actually involve me learning to cut my own hair, but we'll see. 4) Keep my purse clean and organized. Don't laugh! At any given time this year I might've had an assortment of foods, crafting supplies, jewelry and change among the assorted meds, cards, and other things in my purse and it's out of control. At one point this year I was late paying a bill because I lost it in my purse! If I need to take craft supplies with me, they can be put in an appropriate bag to stay organized within my purse. I'll take my change out and put it into the change jar or take it to coinstar. 5) Try to see myself through other people's eyes (because this view kinda sucks). 6) (six?!?! jeez oh pete, it's gonna be a busy year) Give more compliments and learn to accept them without changing the topic. Some other things I'd like to do this year include getting another tattoo that includes the flower below, learn to sew clothing better, and wear more shoes that i own.
