Pointless Stream Today.
Last week, I made a spontaneous decision to do a livestream on my youtube channel, and it was quite a fun little thing, so I'll be doing the same thing again today. I don't really have any plans for it yet, but we'll see what happens. It's mostly a fun waste of time kinda thing. If you wanna be there, it'll be on in 5 hours, at 11am PST or whatever, right here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCf1dBQFSpliwUh5lWBE3AEA?app=desktop
'Why on earth would you remake Exoptable Money & Presentable Liberty?'
Hello people, I'm writing this blog post in response to a question that I've been asked time and time again. If you are wondering the same thing, then please let me try to explain.
Kickstarter for Presentable Liberty & Exoptable Money Remakes - 10 Days Left
Peoples.
I’m not sure if you’ve heard yet, but there’s a Kickstarter currently going on for Remakes of Exoptable Money and Presentable Liberty, the first 2 games in the Menagerie series. There’s 10 days left now, and only €3979/€12000 have been raised so far.
This is the third and final attempt at launching this Kickstarter, and if it doesn’t get funded in time, the games simply won’t happen. For promoting this third Kickstarter, I actually created a full new free spinoff game, Menagerie: Archive.
However, not nearly enough people are aware that this is happening, and I’ve been struggling to get the word out.
If you care about this happening but can’t support the Kickstarter directly, please just tell people about it. I created Menagerie: Archive to give you something to share alongside the Kickstarter, and so far, I feel like it has hardly reached a fraction of the people who would actually be interested in it.
The majority of the games’ audience came from the videos by Markiplier and Jacksepticeye, so I will tag the two here. I have been reluctant to do so because I can imagine that being somewhat annoying for them, but I’m running out of options and have no way to ask them for permission or help. So here goes:
@markiplier @therealjacksepticeye
Here’s the Kickstarter Page: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1623766744/presentable-liberty-and-exoptable-money-menagerie/description And here’s a link to Menagerie: Archive: http://gamejolt.com/games/menageriearchive/249693
Bottom line, if you care about this series, please tell as many people about it as you can. I’ve never made anything else that resonated with people quite as much, and I really, really want this to happen.
Thunderclap for the Remakes of Presentable Liberty & Exoptable Money
(For anyone who doesn’t know, this is about the third and final attempt at funding remakes for Exoptable Money and Presentable Liberty through Kickstarter)
I've set up a thunderclap page for the remakes, in the hopes that this will give anyone who can't give any money a way to still support the games with publicity. For anyone who doesn't know, Thunderclap is basically a way to spread the word about a project in a more coordinated way. All you do is give it permission to post a message about the remakes at a designated date and time on Facebook, Twitter or Tumblr.
This way, instead of a bunch of people tweeting sporadically, it all happens at once, thus (hopefully) making it more visible and effective.
It's free, it's pretty effortless, and I hope we can get together enough people to make an impact.
Here's the thunderclap page: https://www.thunderclap.it/projects/56812-menagerie-i-ii-remakes?locale=en
If you want to support the Kickstarter and don't coincidentally have 9000€ on hand, this is probably the best way right now.
Oh, also, if you didn’t know, I’ve recently made a new spinoff game set in the same world as Presentable Liberty, called Menagerie: Archive. Check it out if you want: http://gamejolt.com/games/menageriearchive/249693
Thanks everyone!
Kickstarter Update
Hello peoples.
I just posted this on Kickstarter, I don’t see why I shouldn’t post it here too.
First of all, thanks to all the people who have backed so far. We've reached more than either of the other attempts, in only a third of the time.
However, this sounds better than it really is. This is the graph of the amount of money raised so far over the last 10 days:
As you can see, the majority of the money came in at the very start of the Kickstarter. This is to be expected, it happens with all things like this, the problem is that it will surely not be good enough to raise 12K before May 22nd.
The problem here is obviously my ineptitude to run a Kickstarter campaign or spread the word and direct the people who'd be interested in this here... only about 160 people have seen this page. 71 of those people actually backed though, so I doubt this is happening due to lack of interest.
So yeah... I figured I'd just ask here if anyone has any ideas...? The main suggestion I get is to try and contact Markiplier or Jacksepticeye and to let them know Menagerie Archive exists, but that really is easier said than done. I've tried basically every legal way I can think of to do this, and at this point I'm not sure I can tell whether they haven't noticed still or simply aren't interested. I don't want to rally people to spam them either, since I don't want to 'force' anyone into playing them, and that is just a somewhat obnoxious way of doing things.
I don't know. I just really want this to happen, and there's still 20 days left to fund it, so really, anything is possible. Any ideas, people?
Menagerie: Archive - Out now
Hello people, Menagerie: Archive, the new spinoff game set in the same world as Presentable Liberty, is out now.
Alongside it, we’ve launched the third and final attempt at the Kickstarter for remakes of the two original games, Exoptable Money and Presentable Liberty.
Here’s a link to the new game: Menagerie: Archive
Here’s a link to the Kickstarter page: Exoptable Money & Presentable Liberty Remakes
I really hope you enjoy the new game, it was more work than the other two original games combined.
The game is essentially finished, now to set up another Kickstarter page...
Will Archive be playable on Mac?
Nope, I don’t have a mac to test it on, and wouldn’t want to release something that isn’t tested.
Menagerie: Archive almost complete
Hello peoples.
Menagerie is now finally fully playable from start to finish, all that’s left now is some menu stuff, some audio stuff and some bugfixing stuff.
This doesn’t mean it’ll be released super soon, since the plan is kind of to launch it alongside another attempt at the kickstarter and that has to be set up again and everything, so yeh.
We’ll see. Soon, maybe.
On Menagerie: Archive
Alright, hello again. I know I haven’t posted in a while.
I’ve recently picked up work on Menagerie: Archive again. It’s getting somewhat close to being done, though I’m not sure if it’s going to be good enough to put out there anymore.
I’ve been thinking about it so much that it’s somewhat hard to tell how good it actually is which is quite annoying. The same thing happened while I was working on Presentable Liberty and was convinced that few people would play and all of those would hate it upon release.
Right now, I feel like Archive had a good idea, but a bad execution. I will probably be looking for playtesters soon to see what they think. Either way, none of this really matters, I just wanted to post something here because I’m way too inactive.
Final Kickstarter Update
Alright, so the kickstarter is over, and failed again at 3188€/12000€.
I don’t really have much to say about it anymore, it was pretty clear it was going to fail again from pretty much the day we launched it, which is why I also continuously lost more motivation to post about anything relating it while it was going on.
If anyone hasn’t heard, I was working on a spinoff title called Menagerie: Archive in order to try and bring more attention to the kickstarter, but it turned out to be too much work to finish it in time, and it wasn’t shaping up the way I would have liked in the end.
As it stands, I haven’t worked on it at all for about a week, and really don’t know what’s going to happen with it. I never really even wanted a spinoff game to exist, I was just going to make it out of necessity and because I think it could have been pretty good, but I won’t lose sleep over it not happening either.
So I guess, currently, it’s ‘on hold’, possibly cancelled, I don’t know. I really don’t feel like thinking about any of this much more.
Thanks for backing/sharing/supporting if you did.
Menagerie: Archive
Citizens!
I don’t know if you’ve heard, but I’ve been working on a spinoff thing in the same vein as Exoptable Money & Presentable Liberty the past couple of days, and it’s shaping up reasonably well.
It’s called Menagerie: Archive, and this is what it currently looks like, after about 50 hours of development:
There’s many things that aren’t yet obvious in that screenshot obviously, but yeah, the main gameplay will be sorting files into these shelves. Sounds riveting, right? It’s an old idea for Menagerie 3 that I abandoned because I ended up wanting to make something bigger, but I think it can work well as a smaller spinoff title.
I think I’ve come up with a pretty interesting story for it too, so I hope that’ll work out. Also I hope I can finish it in time before the Kickstarter ends.
