Proud of our work in the Ohio House this week. We passed the Down Syndrome Non-Discrimination Act to end the willful extermination of the most vulnerable Ohioans. 90% of babies with Down Syndrome are aborted once a diagnosis is made and we must stand up to protect these precious children and show that every life is a gift. We also protected taxpayers and beneficiaries of the SNAP program by requiring a picture on EBT cards and quarterly verification checks. These common-sense provisions ensure that this program serves those it is intended to and is an effort to end the millions of dollars of fraud in this program. Every dollar of SNAP fraud is a dollar of food not on the table of hungry Ohio kids. I am working hard to put government back on your side to ensure that every Ohioan has the best shot to live the American Dream. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve you!
Enjoyed a wonderful evening at the Marion County Republican Party’s Century Club Dinner last night. Great to hear from two friends, Judge Mary DeGenaro and Judge Craig Baldwin. Both of these excellent judges are running for the Ohio Supreme Court in 2018 and have my full support. They both gave inspiring and informed speeches about the Founding and the Constitution, the rule of law, originalism and judicial restraint, and their commitment to a high code of ethics and impartiality. I look forward to having both of these excellent judges on the Supreme Court bench! (at All Occasions Catering & Banquet Facility)
Celebrated a Buckeye win without almost 450 kids in Cardington tonight! Fun evening handing out Halloween candy for trick or treat with @bethany102785 and seeing all the cool costumes. I had the scariest costume of all. A politician!! (at Cardington, Ohio)
Today, Rep. @andrewobrenner and I gave sponsor testimony on our Campus Free Speech Act to the House Higher Education and Workforce Committee. A lot of great questions from and discussion with the committee. We hope to have a hearing soon for proponent testimony (in person or written), so if you support the First Amendment and want to make your voice heard, please contact us! (at Ohio Statehouse)
A fantastic day with friends in the Ohio House! Bucyrus Pastor JC Church of Victory in Truth Ministries opened the House in prayer, Morrow County Auditor Pat Davies testified in support of my House Bill 295 regarding veterans’ service dogs, and my friend Caleb Franz has been shadowing me today. Always and honor to serve and get to spend time with great people! (at Ohio Statehouse)
Honored to be named the 2017 Voice For The Vulnerable Award winner by @thefga at their Solutions Summit this week for the efforts I have helped to lead in Ohio to reform Medicaid to ensure that it serves the truly needy. We will continue to fight for the most vulnerable Ohioans and the common sense solutions that improve our health care system and serves hard-working taxpayers. (at Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Resort & Spa)
Went across the street for a fascinating living history cemetery walking tour of our local history this afternoon. Our local history does so much to connect us to our community and give us meaning and purpose. The tours raised money for much-needed repairs to our monument honoring the local soldiers who served our country in the Civil War. I hope you will consider giving to this very worthy preservation effort! (at Glendale Union Cemetery)
It’s a city/country night in the Goodman home. Cupcakes from our favorite DC bakery, Baked and Wired, that Bethany picked up today before heading home from the Values Voter Summit, and pizza from the always excellent Boondocks outside of Fulton! Rural eats with city treats! (at Cardington, Ohio)
Another fall fun day around the community. Stopped by the Mt. Gilead State Park Apple Butter Festival and then out to the 8 Sisters Bakery Fall Festival to get a donut! Beautiful warm day to be out in the district before Buckeye Football tonight!
Today is the last day to register to vote to be able to cast a ballot in the November 7 election! Registration must be turned in or postmarked by 9:00 PM today. Did you know you can register to vote online at https://olvr.sos.state.oh.us/? Click the link and take a few minutes to get registered! Or print it off and mail it in. Or go visit your county board of elections. Lots of ways to get registered so make sure to check your registration status, update your registration, or get registered today. Your voice and your vote matters!
Enjoyed listening to the four Republican candidates for governor last night at their first forum as they were each interviewed by Frank Luntz. If you plan on voting in the May 2018 Republican primary, who are you planning on supporting for governor and why, Attorney General Mike DeWine, Secretary of State Jon Husted, Congressman Jim Renacci, or Lieutenant Governor Mary Taylor? And if you haven’t made a decision yet, what factors or issues will influence your decision? Thanks to Citizens for Community values for organizing and Genoa Baptist Church for hosting a great event!
Enjoying this beautiful long Ohio fall weekend! Lots of fun throwing candy out at the Chesterville Heritage Days parade yesterday and visited the Apple Butter Festival at the Lutheran Memorial Camp in Fulton after church today to buy some fresh apple cider and gourds. Love this time of year!
Wonderful to spend some time at the Galion Oktoberfest with my good friend Mayor Tom O’Leary tonight! Mayor O’Leary is such a strong and competent leader and is doing the hard work to make Galion a great place to live, work, and have a business. He’s been a great partner to work with and I hope all of my friends and supporters in Galion vote to keep him in city hall for four more years! (at Galion, Ohio)
I had the pleasure of speaking at the statewide Ohio Liberty Coalition meeting today on behalf of my good friend and Ohio’s next United States Senator, @joshmandelohio. I thanked the crowd for their years of service to our movement and shared with them that Josh is the proven and courageous conservative fighter that we need. (at American Baptist Church)
When I get asked what I love most about my job, usually one of my top answers is getting asked to judge pie auction contests! A fun morning in Marengo at their community festival helping to raise money to send county students to the Eco Center! (at Design Studio 27)
The flag is waving, the lights are on, and the air is cool. Perfect night for high school football at Cardington homecoming! (at Cardington-Lincoln High School)
