Paisley was shoving her way through people, trying to get to her brother’s shop. She hoped he was there, or that she’d run into him on her way. “Move, Merlin’s beard, how hard is it to use your legs?”

Wesley whipped around to the source of the voice, “I’m trying to get out of here too, there’s just a lot of chaos. There’s a lot of people here so it’s not going to be easy.”

“Gross. Working on New Year’s? That sucks,” she commented. “Well, I guess at least with you at the Prophet we’ll eventually have actual news instead of the all fabricated rubbish they always post, yeah?”

“I worked a bit on Christmas too. Laurel wasn’t too happy about that,” he admitted with a shrug. “I sure hope so. I appreciate that you’d trust my writing. Now I just got to work my way up to a full time job. Speaking of work, you enjoying playing with the Harpies?”

“I made it myself so I’m glad someone’s at least said something,” she hummed, obviously pleased with her outfit. “Well, you must have done something different, and it’s working for you. Having fun so far?”

“Nobody else has complimented you on it? And now that I know you made it, imagine that compliment times ten. That’s bloody impressive,” Wesley replied truthfully. “Thanks regardless. And yeah I guess it’s pretty enjoyable. My favorite part is the countdown so I’m kind of just waiting on that now. And you?”

“I’ll be honest, I really appreciate that. We don’t have enough honesty in this day and age.”

“I mean it’s gotta rain before we get a rainbow, right? Maybe that was our storm and this year we’ll finally see the sun,” he shrugged, realizing how corny that sounded.

“Well you do look great. That’s a nice dress, it suits you,” Wesley replied, chuckling at the way she had approached him. “Oh thanks. I feel like because I dress almost exactly like this all the time anyways, I never look extra nice at parties or anything.”

“Of course I do,” she looked at him with a smirk. “I was gonna say, I’m surprised you’re even here. You didn’t seem much like the party-goer at school, unless I’m wrong about that.”

“Oh I’m not, you’re not wrong there,” Wes replied, chuckling slightly. “I’m here because it’s New Years, but also because I’m working on another article. Let’s just say my job is never done.”

“And if you just turn away slowly, we’ll pretend you didn’t almost just spill your drink on me. Are you drunk already? It just started like an hour ago.”

“No, no -- I’m sorry. I’m just exhausted. I stayed up all night writing an article and I can barely keep my eyes open,” he admitted with a sigh. “I’m glad I didn’t spill it on you though, you look nice Cassie.”
