After months of agonizing about how to tell his team that he was an omega, the truth came out on a regular Tuesday afternoon. “They are the size of a peanut right now, just this small.” Buck was explaining to Christopher, fingers an inch apart, as he showed him the ultrasound. “Whoa! Was I ever that small, dad?” Chris asked, looking up at Eddie, “Back when I was in your tummy?” He added, placing a hand on Eddie's stomach. Eddie could hear the sharp intakes of breath, but he kept his eyes on Chris, placing a hand on top of his son’s and answering “Yeah bud, back when you were living right here.” He forced himself to be brave then, taking a deep breath and holding on to his son’s hand, he looked up at the others. Both Chim and Buck looked shocked. Buck had his hand raised towards him as if he too, was going to place it on Eddie's stomach.

Can I ask a question without sounding rude? I don't disagree with your perspective on the fandom thinking chris looks like buck (and thank you for sharing your experiences), but I'm always a little conflicted about it because the actor for Chris is fully white? So I guess I like see the problem more in fanfic than I do in reality. If you have the space (bc you don't owe it) what's your thoughts on that aspect? I'm a Black American but not mixed so I know that's an set of experiences that I still have learning to do in and have been but I guess this nuance confuses me a bit and I haven't found anything kinda addressing a similar situation

Full disclaimer that I wrote this over 2 years ago and that it's been probably about 2 years since i dipped from the fandom, so I'm not up to date on any current discourse. But on the back end of ses9 I started to se this post shared again, and can make a guess as to why.

To attempt to awnser, I see no issue in people comparing 2 actors and their appearance (Gavin and Oliver). I also wasn't intending to imply that it was an issue to acknowledge, in fanfic or irl, that Chis, played by Gavin who is not Hispanic, does not look Hispanic.

The issue I was attempting to address, was as a mixed person, reading these fics and occasional posts that were really enthusiastic about Chris looking like Buck. Like, look at this perfect insta-family for Buck! The kid even looks like him! Buck looks more like his dad than his dad! Isn't that just great!

Acknowledging a fact and celebrating it is very different. If I, personally, had gotten a white step father, as I'm white passing, acknowledging that I look about as white as him would be value neutral. However, had people celebrated how nice it is that I, a mixed kid, looked white enough to look like a white mans child? Celebrated that I looked more like this man (to them) than my father? That's really really different.

Acknowledging is value neutral, celebrating is not.

And if you are acknowledging, why not also explore that in fiction from Christopher's or Eddie's pov?

I can't recall exactly what I was reading/seeing back then, but I was sometimes left with this icky feeling in the pit of my stomach. And I do think most of it was completely unintentional, which is why I wrote that post, to call into attention and explain, and ask people to reflect on why they think it is so great that to them Chris looks like Buck and not like Eddie.

throwing in my two cents about Gavin "not looking Hispanic" (technically the correct word here is Latino - someone from Latin America, Hispanic is Spanish speaking which includes Spain and those are white people). As someone who is mixed (Mexican father, white American mother), yes to the rest of you said but being white passing doesn't make you white and Latinos come in a variety of shades, including "white". I have brown hair, brown eyes and tan skin like Eddie/Ryan, but my youngest brother has blonde hair, blue eyes and fair skin, my aunt (who is fully Mexican) has blonde hair, green eyes and fair skin. There is plenty of European ancestry in the average Latino because these countries where all conquered by Europeans, additionally, efforts were made (historically) to mejorar la raza to "improve your race" by becoming more white, it's a whole eugenics thing that you can read about here. Point is, while Gavin is not a mixed Latino, Chris is and Chris can look exactly as he does, as Gavin does, and that still be true. 🫶

how is it the general fandom consensus that "buck doesn't even know he's in love" (but he's bi and out) and eddie "already knows"? what does he know? how does he know? how did we get here? what even happened in this season to support that theory? (that can't be explained by the fact that buck is his best friend and he'd do anything for him). is he not allowed a little fun episode about it? i also never understood the whole "eddie could never date another man first, that's not eddie, he's a nester who nests". i do agree that he's a nester who nests (#omegaeddie forever) but could it be that the reason he doesn't "date much" is because he's not straight? and we're getting there? we don't know how he'd be like when he dates the population that he actually wants to date.

but for real tho it's very much in line with how i see sub eddie that for eddie, "chain of command" isn't just like, obligation or giving up autonomy. eddie gets comfort and peace from existing inside set rules and systems under someone else's authority. it makes him feel safe, less alone, maybe even more free - not in spite of having constraints on his behavior, but because of that. and yeah i think there are some interesting analogies there to what he could get out of sexual submission

I'm starting to feel like 9-1-1 isn't having enough fun with itself. like yeah it stays silly. but it's stopped having fun.

the ai dispatcher should have been the full focus of this episode, a perfect way to send the 118 out on increasingly stupid calls while in the middle of their internal conflict. eddie should be tech paranoid, buck spouting facts about how much water ai uses. ravi should be chased by a chicken they were sent to rescue. fun!!

the army vet plot should have been milked for drama in the next episode! buck should be worried about eddie after the shots and try to storm in. bobby might have been able to stop him but can chimney do it? and he is still sensitive about hen saying he is a bad captain, does that make him fold easier or push harder? without hen or bobby there is no backup voice of reason. drama! interpersonal conflict! maybe eddie is hurt! things that you can still solve quickly but that could play out at least 1-2 episodes.

why doea it feel like the show is just rushing forward without stopping and smelling the roses?
