‘Most that have seen the great floating stronghold of the Pirate Nation are no longer of this earth, and as they say, dead men tell no tales. But those few who have survived try not to tell tales either. Sometimes though, silence gets to be more powerful a story than the most elaborate tale… You’ve noticed that all the survivors have a very particular look in common; it’s almost as if they were sharing a face. It’s that deep stare of trying so hard to forget but at the same time, not being able to recall – like parts of their memory have been snatched away as violently as their living hood and loved ones. That will tell you all you need to know about the Pirate citadel of a thousand shipwrecks and the destruction it leaves at its wake. Pray hard that you never, ever, share the fate of seeing it approach your shores’. - This was one of the most laborious illustrations I’ve done. It took me months to finish and I swear I was seeing ship parts float around in my sleep long afterwards. This piece was truly a learning process and my skills got challenged on each step of the way. So, even though it’s been quite some time now since I finished this, and there are lots of things that I would probably do differently if I were to make it now, I must say I’m very proud of myself for this work. :)
I mean... 🤐
