THANKS TO EVERYONE ♡♡♡
«Well, who do we have here?» He said as he peeked out from the door before entering the room, cane under his arm. His yellow-ish, sharp teeth were almost glowing in a smirk that was plastered on his face. Almost as if he found the sight of the man in front of him funny.
«Hanging out by yourself? Caro, don't you think someone like you could spend his time in... something more appropriate? Exciting?» He seemed to be hinting at something.
-🦊🎭 ( @what-the-fox-say )
"..."
He straightened up and stared at the strange man
"... What did you just call me?"
"... Whatever..."
He gripped his lighter and quickly lit a cigarette, unsurprisingly.
"... No. I'm perfectly fine as is."
He spat out without much care for what the other has to offer
«Oh, of course you are. That's what everyone thinks, before they start to walk on the path to success!» His voice got louder the more he spoke, as if boastful, while walking towards the man with slow steps. The heel of his shoe made a clicking sound against the floor that seemed almost rhythmic.
«Tell me, don't you wish everyone could see yourself for what you were worth? Shining like they could only dream of doing?» He finally stopped and leaned towards him.
He leaned away from the man. He didn't look so pleased with the offer.
"No."
He blew the smoke at the other man's face. He didn't really care what the consequences of his attitude would be
"... I hate attention, I'd rather die than be in the spotlight."
He replied with blunt honesty, hoping that would convince the other to leave him alone
The grin on the man's face momentarily stopped as he scrunched his face once the smoke hit it; however, as quickly as his smirk previously fell, it shined once again. He straightened his back and cleared his throat, as if thinking about something, until he started moving again.
Not away though, of course not. He didn't give up easily.
«Oh, I completely get it, mon ami! » He said once he was behind him, putting his hands on his shoulders. «I once used to be just like you, refusing to answer the stage... But then, I met an indigne artist that guided me through my journey! This could be the start of yours!»
He tensed up when his shoulders got touched. He quickly stood up and turned to face him
"I hate people."
"... I don't want to be seen."
He looked more uncomfortable and rigid after that, seemingly normal, contact. Did he really hate physical touch that much?
"... Stop bothering me..."
He muttered
He was clearly about to continue his yapping (whether what he was saying was actually true or not) but his sudden movements snapped him out of his theatricals. Quite the reaction, for something that simple... But that didn't seem to get through him, whether he was too deep into it to realize how uncomfortable he was, or if he simply didn't care enough to stop.
«Bothering you?» He slowly replied, his tone so light it could almost seem mocking. He didn't try to get closer again, at least. With his now free hand, he grabbed the head of the cane.
«I am simply showing you the way... You should be thanking me for this opportunity!»
"..."
He was about to snap, as usual with his expected anger problems, but he managed to hold back. At least for now.
"Well listen here, you taxidermy mount, I don't care for any of your bullshit!"
He huffed in anger. Hard to tell why he was getting so worked up
"... Fuck off. I won't say yes, no matter what you try."
His eye faintly twitched at his display of anger. Although he met many blind ones that refused to acknowledge his words, no one ever reacted angrily so quickly. His grin was still in place, but looking more tight than before.
«Such fire you have, méprisable-...» He paused for a moment, tapping his cane on the ground. «I see this star is already burning, huh...»
It was hard to tell in which way he meant that. But he didn't leave just yet.
"..."
He realized this is not worth to loose his temper on. Who is this moron anyway? He thought.
"... Go on. Try to talk me into your... Whatever you want from me."
He gave him a bitter smile and shrugged. If he wasn't exploding he resulted to acting passive aggressive instead
"... You're very desperate. I bet no one ever says yes to you."
He stared intensely, hoping it would at least annoy the other
«Desperate?» He repeated, before laughing boastfully, as if he just heard a big joke–or as if he thought the man next to him was one. Whether he realized the route the other was taking or not, his sharp smirk seemed glued to his face.
«The only desperate thing here, être dégoûtant, is the calling of the audience for us stars!» He gripped his cane, waving it around faintly as if to give his words more effect.
«Hello there, mon ami!» He flashed a smile as he leaned towards it, tapping his cane in a slow rhythm on the ground behind his back. From the way his eyes shined, it almost seemed like he already knew it. Or, at least, somehow heard about it. Mostly, he just liked to act like he knew everyone.
«You know... I think we might be on the same page, you and I. That doesn't happen often. Earth's calling is something not everyone can hear...»

hm?
[its head tilted to the side at the new face. rarely did someone approach it, it was used to going on its own way. but it certainly didn't mind company, and so wasn't adverse to new faces]
that is true... not everyone knows what destiny has carved out for them, though I choose not to believe in destiny. it's a strange world out here
He nodded multiple times, as if able to understand quite deeply what it meant. «Of course, of course... Destiny,» He scoffed. «Just a word like all the others.»
He rotated his cane next to him for a moment, (quite dramatically) pausing.
"Strange world, yes... Strange. It needs changing, don't you think?» He drew out his words, like usual wanting to hint at something he didn't say directly out loud.
oh yes... change would be nice...
when the angels whisper to me, they speak of it. they know that the moment is coming... when all of this ends, I will be the bringer of the end
[it fidgets with its hands, staring at the other, almost staring into his soul. it was unnerving and quite strange]
change is inevitable... and it will come soon... maybe you will take part in it, who knows
That got Volpe quiet for a moment, its stare. He'd been stared at in more than one way: sometimes with shining glimmers, others with harsh narrows... But that was different. It wasn't looking into his eyes at all. Was it?
«Change,» He repeated–probably to give himself a moment more so it wouldn't seem like he lost his composure for a moment right there. He only half-listened to its previous words.
«Yes, change! Inevitable, sure... But that doesn't mean we can't control it! Just think about it... Our minds together, we could step up where no one ever imagined!»
hm... I like your thinking
[it fell silent for a second, its eyes narrowing. it was trying to analyze him, figure him out. he seemed quite showman-ish, talking a big game. not like it didn't talk a big game. but he seemed sane enough]
maybe you're special, just like me... who knows... you seem quite .... unique
Ah, finally someone who understood !
He was starting to think that the flaring sun melted everyone's brain before he could find any for his collection.
«Yes, YES...caro. Carissimo. This is exactly what I mean. Special people like us should stick together. Just think about what we could achieve... What, WHO, we could control!» His sharp teeth shined in a wide smile just at the thought.
ah, well... I'm not here to control people.
[it returned the smile, unnerving as it was. it seemed not quite human but not quite visitor]
if people wanna believe in me, i'll let them. if people don't well, i'm not here to control them. salvation is inevitable. whether they believe or not, that is irrelevant.
«Of courseee...» He nodded a bit too much, as if he had said that himself. As if he agreed–which he didn't at all, but that wasn't the problem.
«But don't you think it would be so much easier if we could just... find a way to make everyone believe us? Help them before they even realized they needed us?» He sounded dramatically solemn, half-hugging his cane for show.
[it's head tilted to the side. this was a curious case. a quite interesting man, offering it so much. it thought quite highly of it, even is they had just met. though this was probably some kind of facade]
well... it would be easier if people would just believe me... I have my own believers but not being called psychotic would be... nice....
[its eyes narrowed as it studied the man in front of it. anything to understand his motives, his deeper thoughts. It wasn't good at reading people though, no matter what it might say]
He laughed faintly, as if sympathizing with it–or thinking it was saying a joke. He tapped the ground with his cane once again, leaning on it as he glanced at the other.
«Very well then... We'll just have to find a way to make them believe us, won't we?»
He drew out his words like he was enjoying this "us" thing, but he wasn't fully hiding that it wasn't all he wanted–though not saying it directly either. His eyes shined darkly, like a star in the sky waiting to be seen.
A little girl, all alone, in this apocalypse? One thing he learned from experience, was that children were always more attracted to what the others seemed to like. Just what he needed! The beginning of the chain that was hanging from his hands.
«Why, buonasera, little miss. What are you doing out here? It's not safe for children like you...»
They definitely warned her about the wolf hidden in the woods. But what about the fox?
-🦊🎭( @what-the-fox-say )
// sorry been thinking about that joke forever
(akiko flinched, whipping around and immediately backing away from him, clutching her basket. her eyes narrowed, glaring daggers at the man— well, with her better eye.)
“who are you? why are you approaching me?”
(after a moment, she composed herself, still tense however.)
“well, if you must know, i am taking a walk! not doing anything else.”
“Who are you?” Usually that question bothered him. How could anyone NOT know about him? About the greatest ringmaster of all time? Children these days... They just didn't care, right? That must have been why she didn't know.
«Why, I am Volpe! And you, ma chère, you are a star! YES!! I can sense it, you're special!» There he started...
«A walk? What's the need of staying on these dark roads when you can WALK TO THE ROAD OF FAME AND SUCCESSSS!» He didn't care to tone it down–or how obviously the kid was tensed. Instead he puffed his chest as if he himself was walking on that road right now.
“…”
(she just blinked up at him, brows furrowed slightly. she hadn’t seen the man before, maybe heard some whispers about a ringmaster, but none that was to her interest.)
“ah… a star? i don’t believe so. i’m perfectly content with eating biscuits and taking food to granny’s. well, used to…”
(she mumbled under her breath, flinching when his voice rose. she took a few small steps away, a bit freaked out.)
“apologies sir, but i’m not interested in fame! or… such.”
He looked down at her, leaning on the head of his cane. The gold (or what it was supposed to be, at least) reflected in the moonlight. After listening to her words, he suddenly laughed as he shook his head.
His eyes flashed, speaking for him before he'd open his mouth–"don't you understand?"
«Bambina cara, oh... Why settle for so little? I'll shower you with glory! The world will be in your hands! It'll gift you all your desires...» His voice slowly softened.
«All you need to do is follow my lead. Easy, isn't it?»
“but i really don’t see the point-”
(she paused at the words “follow my lead”, clutching her basket. her brows furrowed as her left hand slowly drifted into her basket.)
“you know… you remind me of… an animal.”
«An animal?» He repeated, tilting his head back. The movement almost made it seem like his unhidden "ear" flicked–that was just his hair... Apparently he didn't mind being called so, whether that was an insult or something else. He had a knack for that, turning anything against him into the opposite.
«Hhm..and why is that?» He seemed to be too much filled up in his ego to notice what she was doing.
(akiko’s eyes narrowed, staying silent for a moment, before she whipped out a dagger, aiming it at volpe almost in defense)
“are you trying to trick me, like that wolf? i’ll let you know sir, mother gave me this dagger for a reason!”
His grin stilled for a moment as his hand gripped tighter at the head of his cane, but he didn't move. It quickly returned at full force like nothing anyway–of course he wasn't worried; what could a little girl do anyway, right...
He laughed loudly as if he heard the funniest joke ever.
«Trick you?» He shook his head exaggeratedly. «Quite the contrary, mon étoile... I simply want to help you! To get so high you could touch the stars and show them who's the brightest!»
(she stayed stiff and wary, fingers clenching around the handle of the dagger as he continued to speak. however, she lowered the weapon slightly. it may be good to not strike a full on fight with this man.)
"well, sir, i've already told you i have no interest in fame or glory! so, if you would be so kind, please leave me alone."
(she huffed softly.)
He hummed quietly–pretending he was thinking about her words. Finally, noticing the way she started to lower her weapon, his grip on his cane loosened as he toyed with it instead, making it sling faintly.
«Oh, of course!» He raised his free hand in (mock) surrender. For a moment it might have looked like he would actually drop it, until he continued with a grin that just seemed not to fade.
«You've got quite the fire in you...» He tapped the blade of her dagger with the head of his cane. «Ah, such a shame it will go to waste...»

Easy, isn't it?»
«Hello there, mon ami!» He flashed a smile as he leaned towards it, tapping his cane in a slow rhythm on the ground behind his back.

«Well, who do we have here?» He said as he peeked out from the door before entering the room, cane under his arm. His yellow-ish, sharp teeth were almost glowing in a smirk that was plastered on his face. Almost as if he found the sight of the man in front of him funny.
