“A woman of taste, Eve chose to pick wisdom, and with her courage for the unknown, translated eternity into time, her word into memory, her entire self into the eternally ticking earth.
Eve has given the world her gift of translation. A translator steals and gives.
Eve is the mother of translation. She transformed fruit into knowledge, secret sperm into children, and the text of her story into us.”
—Willis Barnstone, The Poetics of Translation

New gouache & watercolor painting for the Guts exhibition at Light Grey Art Lab is about some of the places our waste ends up when we’re done with it, like in the body of an unsuspecting sea bird. The show will be up through May 15th, stop by to see the original of this (with slightly different coloring!), which has sold – but prints of this version are for sale in the online shop.

The Screech Owls, a genus of about two dozen species whose relationships have not been completely sorted out. One species, the Santa Marta Screech Owl, was formally described as recently as 2017.
This group might be best seen not as a disparate assortment of various owls, but rather the successful radiation of one type of owl into nearly every forest habitat in the new world.
