HEY CARDIFF!
GET PIXELATED!
What the Math? Presents a mini festival full of huge music made by small machines. Taking vintage gaming hardware and bending/beating/coding them into submission to create lo-fi, homegrown electronic music, we invite a diverse line up of UK based artists to show us exactly how much sound can pour from every chip. With genres ranging from straight retro videogame music to post-rock influenced pop, DnB, house, bass and seapunk, the chipmusic scene bubbles with a creative energy flowing off the forums, tumblrs, gif-sets, and vines onto the stage. We couldn’t be more excited!
Headlining the event we are proud to invite TDK aka Mark Knight, a veteran performer on the chipmusic/demoscene. TDK’s music gushes with melody, fizzing highs and deep bass led by live violin, providing a lively contrast to the driving electronics. TDK is joined by Shefield’s Harleylikesmusic, Cardiff’s own Alone, xCriticalStrikex, The Virus Empire, Infotoxin, Sky Pope, King Keytan, Whitely, J3wel and CFGK24.
So grab a Game Boy, level up your dancing shoes, max your high scores and welcome to Cardiff eleven of the finest chip musicians the UK has to offer.
Hey Cardiff
This weekend, What The Math? presents what may or may not be a super world first: A gig streamed to the internet via a Playstation 4! Whoop.. Even if its not We are excited to have Alone (Game Boys / Guitars / Euphoria) and Laurence Made Me Cry (Folk, guitars, singing etc) together to have an evening of live music, lolz and maybe even cat interruptions.. you can even get involved to through the livestreams social deals... See Facebook Event for more info!
Gameapalooza is coming!
Byzanite done did a video diary of Hub Festival. Nice
Meet Byzanite
Alongside JellyBear, Alone and Chemical X and Kepler we are proud to have Swansea based electronic master Byzanite join us on Saturday night of Hub!
Going solo from an Electro/Glitch duo in March 2009, Byzanite since then soared to a unique sound of chiptune. With other tastes in music, He indulges in non-purism chiptune or creations which have no 8-bit elements in at all! With tracks featuring on Adam Walton's Welsh Music Show on BBC Radio Wales, Jen Long's Introducing Show on BBC Radio 1 and working closely with Babycakes Clothing, Byzanite will soon be a house hold name for Dance & Electronic music! In 2013 Byzanite unleashed Citadel of Chaos, his latest album mixing dubstep, chiptune, house, hard beats and a passion for partying, pizza and cigarettes. Both as a live performer and DJ, Byzanite is an artist not to miss.

Hub Festival! JellyBear!
JellyBear will be playing as part of our Chip stage at Hub Festival. We can't wait to see what he gets up to with his fantastic blend of modern production and squarewaves.
JellyBear is the alias of Jack Farrow, twenty year old experimental producer currently living in Cardiff. After studying music from an early age playing the piano JellyBear moved on to writing chiptune influenced music in 2008 taking inspiration from Sabrepulse, Philter, nsrrenard and many other chip artists.

Retro Party on TV?!
Hell yeah we were! Last week (bit slow) our Retro Party was featured on s4c programme Y Lle. Which is damn cool. Its a great overview of the games, the music and the noise. Sadly the crew didn't stay long enough to catch the HFTGB cause a sweaty pit of bodies writhing to the Tetris theme. You really had to have been there for that. You can catch up for the next 30 days or so here (there are English subtitles for you non-Welsh speakers) Y Lle Episode 19
Here is what it looks like if you take screenshots of the catch up player (bless you cmd shift 4)

Cardiff Retro Party Profiles: Tommy Creep
Our final Party Profile! Not long now... Monday is so close! Tommy Creep
What do you get if you mix dirty basslines, Alice Cooper's on-stage-persona (we all know the Wayne's World routine) and two innocent young 1989 Game Boys? Only Tommy Creep knows as he shreds through our purest chip-tune set of the night. Feel the horror-chip necromancer tingle your dancing bones or close your eyes and pray for Zombies Ate My Neighbourhood carts to rain from the ceiling.
Fresh from the Bristol scene Tommy opens our party by stretching LSDJ to its most twisted form. Check it!
