Time to Tell
Reader x Cas Word count: 1,335 You met Castiel in a bar. It wasn't the usual drink/hook up meeting - no, it sad far from that. The two of you were both third wheels. His two friends were chatting up yours while the two of you sat awkwardly. As the night wore on, though, you did end up making small talk. One thing led to another, and now you're dating. Actually, you're arriving at your fourth date out in the past two months right now. You pull off your earmuffs and blink Wisconsin's early January snow away from your eyelashes. “Hello, (Y/N),” says the barista at your favourite cafe. “You want your usual?” “Not yet, Tony,” you tell him. “Cas is going to be here soon. I'll wait for him.” “Okay,” he says cheerily. You settle down at a table by the large glass windows and pull out a book. Its the fifth one in a series you've just recently started - Supernatural. You only read the first couple of paragraphs before Castiel arrives. “Cas!” You exclaim, jumping up from your seat to hug him. You don't get to see him as often as you like. He's an FBI agent, so he has to travel a lot. “(Y/N)!” He picks you up and spins you around, pecking a chaste kiss on your lips after he sets you down. “You’re freezing,” he tells you, eyebrows furrowing in concern. “Well, it is cold outside,” you point out. What you won't admit is that your light sweater certainly isn't heavy enough for the blizzard that is blowing in. “Here,” Cas says, pulling off his ever-present trench coat and draping it over your shoulders. “You're taking this back before we leave,” you tell him. “We’ll discuss that then,” he tells you. “For now, let's order.” You get your usual - a honey-lavender latte. Castiel gets an espresso, like he always does. Tony doesn't have his usual committed to memory, though. Once you get your drinks, you return to the seat by the window. “So how have you been?” Castiel asks you, smiling warmly. You let out an involuntary groan. “My stupid boss…” Cas makes a concerned face. “What happened this time?” “Well, he wants me to come in on the 24th, which I asked off for forever ago! I mean, it isn't like I can miss my nephew's first birthday party!” You explain in frustration. “You could just quit. I know you hate working at that grocery store,” Cas points out. “As much as I despise managing those stupid teenagers, I have to have some way of making money until my book gets picked up by a publisher,” you say with a bitter sigh. “You’ll get there,” he reassures you. “Oh, I did find a new book series,” you say excitedly, showing Cas Supernatural. Cas stiffens slightly at the sight of the cover. “H-how is it?” “Pretty good so fa! Have you read them?” You assume he has, and that their painful, based on his reaction. “Kinda. A lot of good people die…” Cas trails off, but then seems to shake of his haze. “I know the author.” “Really?” You exclaim, excited. “He’s not really all that spectacular,” Cas says flatly. “Why so bitter?” It isn't like Cas to speak with so much spite in his voice. “He was close to my family when we were little. Then… Well, he disappeared and it caused a split down my entire family… So yeah. I'm a little bitter.” “Oh. I'm sorry,” you whisper. You know what its like to have someone leave. “It is what it is,” Cas says with finality. There is a lull in the conversation as you two finish off your drinks. “Hey, lovebirds,” Tony calls from back behind the counter. “I think you're going to be here for the long haul. That snow isn't letting up anytime soon.” You glace outside, eyes widening in shock. The outside world is pure white - you can't even see the sidewalk. It looks like Tony is right. Fortunately, you have the love of your life with you. --- The snow doesn't let up, and after three days, its starting to look grim. At least Tony has a shower in the back. The three of you enjoy yourselves- Tony is your childhood best friend, and has been wanting to get to known “that attractive man who stole you from our singles night” for a long time. Tony is gay and you are bi. It can be loads of fun when the two of you go out. You're tied down now though. “Bull-freaking-shit!” You exclaim at Tony for the fourth time in a row. He let's out a groan. “But-” “Just take it,” you tell him, laughing. “Three fours,” Cas says, laying down his cards next. You look at him through narrowed eyes for a moment. When he doesn't squirm, you put down your own cards. “Four fives,” you say, your tone daring someone to say something. Cas takes the bait. “Bullshit.” You let out what can only be described as a cackle. “You take ‘em, babe!” Then the lights go out. “Damnit,” Tony exclaims. “Whats happened?” Cas asks. “The power went out,” you tell him. “We have to hope this snow let's up before we freeze to death.” You finish your game, but with the impending doom, it isn't nearly as fun. Tony goes to get towels to stuff in the cracks of the door. “(Y/N), I can get us out of here,” Cas whispers, pulling you close to him. “What on earth are you talking about?” You ask him, confused. “Just… Close your eyes, okay?” “Cas, what-” “Just, please, (Y/N).” The desperation in his voice makes you do what he says. “Tony,” you hear him say as he pulls you tight against his chest. “C’mere a second.” “What cha need, Cas?” You can hear his footsteps approaching. You feel Cas shift a bit, then suddenly feel sick for a second. Then its gone, then back, then gone. You're disoriented even before you open your eyes to a warm, sunny place outside of an abandoned factory. “Cas, what…” You trail off, not quite knowing what to say. “Tony is safe in his house. And we’re in Kansas,” he tells you. “But what…” You can't even begin to process what is going on. Cas sights. “Come inside. There's a lot I need to tell you.” You nod your head, following him. Its a damn gold thing you trust Cas. This could have gone very badly otherwise. It turns out that it isn't such an abandoned factory after all. Its a bunker- and a rather homey one at that. “Cas, where have you been?” Demands an attractive, green-eyed man. “Preoccupied,” he says with a glance at you. “Are you that girl Cas was talking to at that bar in Wisconsin?” The man asks you. Another man walks into the room. “Yeah, from like two years ago. Cas has been dating her.” This man is tall with long hair, and reminds you of a moose. “How did I miss that?” The first man says, looking at you again. “Because you're oblivious,” Moose says. “I hadn't told her anything… I kinda have to now,” Cas tells them. You're still confused. “Okay, will someone please tell me what is going on? How the hell am I in Kansas?” The green-eyed man sighs. The moose looks concerned. “Its a long story…” --- “So you're meaning to tell me that my boyfriend is an angel and you two are demon hunters who die a lot?” You ask after a long explanation and a bottle of beer. “Yeah, pretty much,” Sam says. “Like in those books. You even have the same names as the main...oh…” You trail off, realising that the books are true. Sam and Dean both groan. “Well that's cool. I guess I have to start learning,” you say. “What?” Cas asks, confused. “Well, I'm going to be a hunter. That grocery store job sucks anyway,” you say.
