My two cents on Victor as a coach vs. competitor
Might be an unpopular opinion, but here’s my two cents. I don’t think Victor is the best coach, and maybe barely even a ‘good’ coach- we’ve seen twice when Yuri has told him to “stop sounding like a coach” or something like that as we see here:
Victor is, however, GREAT as a choreographer and competitor. He’s done amazing choreography for Yuri and Yurio, who were able to perfect them through mostly, themselves. Yurio did so through his own coaches (who probably told him stuff like to lift his arms for more points) as well as his own stubborn determination, and for Yuri- Victor did not even push him in the first place to do that quad flip. It was Yuri that wanted it and pushed for it. Although Victor definitely helped him a lot behind the scenes I’m sure.
In the end, Victor was great in motivating Yuri, and being able to give him that confidence that he CAN win and amazing routines. And yes, he was able to give advice and cheer him up a lot, but let’s face it- he’s not the best coach, when we compare him to Yakov and Lilia, who really seem like they know what they’re doing very well.
Yes, Victor is ‘new’ to the coaching game, but I think right now, he has regained the motivation he needed to be a competitor. He has seen how his routines were able to be perfected by Yuri and Yuurio, and maybe he needed that push too himself to move on as a skater. Maybe he needed to try something new.
But NOW, with Yuri and Yurio having used his routines to have surpassed his records, they’re all almost on the same level now. Now it’s not to really compete with the ‘best versus the best.’ But we shall see!
All good if people think differently:) Just my two cents!
