What I did on my Summer Vacation

Tourists. We’ve all seen them, we have probably, on occasion, been them. The tourists taking pictures of other tourists in front of the historic site of the moment. It used to be that everyone used a camera in pretty much the same way; you raised to your eye, focused, and pushed the shutter button. With the advent of digital cameras, in all their forms, there is no longer a set way to take a picture. This can lead to some interesting, and sometimes humorous, contortions in the pursuit of the perfect shot. Welcome to the slightly odd world of tourists taking pictures.

Don’t know who is creepier. This guy taking a picture of the girl taking a picture of some girls, or me taking a picture of this guy taking a picture of the girl taking a picture of some girls.

Upon returning to the same spot several hours later this is what we found. It would be fun to go back and see if people are still holding the Taj in the palm of their hand.

This photo and the next are part of an experiment at the Taj. As you can see from the previous posts appearing to hold the Taj up by its top is a thing for tourists. This is an experiment in monkey-see-monkey-do. Check the next post for the results.

At the leaning tower of Pisa you take a picture of your friend pushing it over. Apparently, at the Taj Mahal you hold it by the top of the dome.

I call this the evolution of the selfie. On the top is one of the first times I remember someone taking a selfie. Before selfie was a word. Probably mid 2000 something. Cameras only had one lens so you had to point and hope for the best.

The second photo was taken in October 2016. Selfie stick? Does the girl in photo one have one now?
