Father's Day Visit || Self Para
Caden goes back home to visit is father. It might not be what you expect.
Throughout rest of the day day he laid low and went unoticed. He just wanted to get some work done before he left. It was almost 6pm when his mother texted him what Sunday was. Caden replied I know mum. I'm coming Saturday morning. I hope to see you soon. I love you. He quickly shut off his phone. The next three hours seemed to go by slow as hell. Caden picked up his guitar to try and pass some time. A half our went by. Caden went to bed 30 minutes earlier than he has been for the past few weeks. Sleep seemed to kill some time.
Caden woke up. Right away he got his stuff together and drove to the airport half crying on his way there. "Don't cry...."He told himself as he parked and turned off his car. Caden did what he had to do to get to the gate. It was too long of a process. When his gate number was called he sprang up and was one of the first people there. The lady scanned his ticket and he rolled across the never ending passage from the gate to the plane. At least it felt like that. When he got on the plane, Caden checked his phone one last time. Nothing was there, so he was okay. The plane ride was already insanley long, but it felt even worse with the fact of why he was going there. Caden fell asleep in an hour. when he woke up he had an hour longer, so he read a book and waited.
That hour went by faster than the rest. He got off the plane as soon as possible. As he exited his mom was there waiting for him. "Mum?" it has been a while since his mom showed him true affection. "Mum!" He ran over to her and gave her a big hug with his free arm. "You didn't have to come here and greet me. I could find my way home." His mom smiled and replied. "I wanted to see you as soon as possible. Now. Let go home." Luckily Caden didn't live too far away from the airport. Caden told his mother all about his time in Canada and at Degrassi. In no time they were home. The smell of chicken and potatos filled the air within his childhood home. Caden continued his story as he ate dinner with his mom. "Your appitite has increased, Cade!" His mother always called him Cay or Cade. He wasn't quite sure why. He just smiled and continued to eat. The evening came fast and so did the next day.
Caden woke up around noon. This time the sent of bacon woke him up. "You always know what to make when i'm home." Caden walked down stairs rubbing his eyes. When he was downstairs he hugged his mom and sat down in front of his plate. "Thanks mum." He looked back and smiled. "You are very welcome, my love. I bought some flowers for you." Caden looked back at the vase of flowers which his mom had bought so he could put on his father's grave. "Cool. That saves me a trip." He finished up. He gave his mom a kiss on the cheek, grabbed the flowers and the keys, and left the house with a light close of the door.
"You can do this Caden....be strong..." He said as he wrapped both hands around the wheel. He let go with one hand so it could put the keys in the key hole. The car started and it was off. Through his rear view mirror he could see his mother standing in the door way with a tear rolling down her cheek in the memory of her husband. That triggered a tear for Caden. After 15 minutes he was at the grave yard. He rememberd exactly where he was burried after all of these years. Two left turns, straight for a mile, a right turn, and straight for another half mile. Right in the middle. A light grey headstone which was freshly polished stared him in the face. Caden stroked the engravings of the date and his name. "Stephen Michael Walters..." He said to himelf. The sound of his middle name with a different first name broke him even more than the sight of the headstone. Caden bent his head down and started to cry. "I'm so sorry dad..." He whispered between small voice cracks. "I love you and never ment to hurt you." He put his left hand on the grave and the other gripping the flowers. There was a small vase to put the flowers in. Caden lightly put them in. He then looked down at his shirt. It was a gift to Caden from his father. He kissed it and started to sing a song that he wrote for his funeral. "I love you dad....so much..." He ened with that and a kiss on his shirt. After 20 minutes he got back in the car. Caden placed his head on the top of the steering weel and started to sob.
Caden drove back home. The drive seemed way longer along with everything else on this little holiday from Degrassi. Caden unloced the door. You could see the redness in his eyes. His mom noticed as well. She ran over to him and embrased him. Caden let go and walked away to get a drink. After he turned around he saw a darker mark where the paint didn't quite match the origonal color. It was where the pot hit the wall then hit his father's head. He walked over to his mom and began to sob. "I'm such a terrible person mum. I can't ...live with myself." He said as he continued to cry. He could hear his mother sniffling. She let go and looked him right in the eyes. "I love you. He does too. He always has." Caden hugged his mom again. He finished up the day with the memory of that night running through his head. He then went to bed as his mom repacked his stuff so he could go back home Monday. She kissed his head as he slept.
