Intro

So long ago (and by that I mean 2015), Miraculous Ladybug first premiered in South Korea and then aired on Nickelodeon in America. Since then, the show has gained a lot of popularity and has received a large fan base; however, Miraculous has a lot of flaws. From its writing to its animation, Miraculous Ladybug is not only repetitive with its writing, but lazy in general. For example, each episode is the same premise, a citizen gets upset then gets akumatized, they destroy Paris, then ladybug fixes it. Then there is the love square where Chat Noir loves ladybug and Marinette loves Adrien but not the other way around. Marinette still not has acted normal around Adrien since season one, and Chat Noir is still in denial that Ladybug doesn’t love him. My point is, everything is the same and the fans are tired of it. This show, if written correctly and with a better art style, could be a very entertaining one to see. So that’s where we come in. Bethany is going to bring the writing, and Reagan will bring the art. Together we are going to make this show actually good and worth your time. Comics, scene rewrites, and new scenes will be featured and hopefully you can pretend it actually happened in the show. Also, feel free to ask any questions or make suggestions to what we should do with any scenes, art or just anything in general along the way.

Miraculous creators releasing the first two episodes of season 5 and then going on this big hiatus is making me want to die.

Reveal Scenario:

“What’s wrong, Adrien?” Marinette asks.

Adrien sighs, “Oh nothing, it’s just been an exhausting couple of days.”

“Do...umm...would you want to...umm talk about it? You know, if that would maybe make things...umm help you feel better.” 

“Well, that’s the thing, I can’t talk about it. Not really,” Adrien sighs, “There’s uh...a friend of mine, and umm...well, she’s having a hard time. It’s a whole big mess, and I just...I’m trying to be strong for her, you know? I wanna help her and fix everything, it’s just...it’s probably gonna take a lot of time. I just don’t want to let her down.”

“Well I’m sure there’s no way you could let her down,” Marinette stutters, “I mean, you’re great...at not...letting...people down.”

Adrien smiles, “Thanks, Marinette. You know, you’ve always been such a big help to me,” he thinks to himself for a moment, “Has there ever been something you wanted to tell someone so bad, but you just...couldn’t?”

“What?!” Marinette’s eyes widen, “Well, yeah. All the time.”

“Well how have you gotten through it?”

Marinette laughs nervously, “Honestly, I haven’t really. I don’t really know how to, I guess.”

“It just gets so hard at times, you know?”

“Yeah, I do.”

“Normally, this wouldn’t bug me so much, but lately, keeping things...it’s just harder.”

“Well, you can...umm,” Marinette takes a deep breath, “You can share as much or as little as you want with me.”

Adrien smiles and retreats to his thoughts for a minute, “You know what, she told someone, I should be able to.” 

Marinette furrows her eyebrows, her mind racing with curiosity.

Adrien looks to her, “The truth is, I’m Chat Noir.”

Marinette’s eyes widen and she shoots up in panic, “What?! No, you’re kidding!”

He stands up and grabs her by the shoulders, “No, Marinette. I’m Chat Noir, but you can’t tell anyone, ok?”

“Right,” Marinette forces herself to stay calm, “Of course. You’re secret is safe with me.”

Adrien lets out a sigh of relief, “Man, that felt good. I’m glad I could finally tell someone.”

“Yeah, that’s a big secret to keep.”

“Yeah. I’m sorry to throw that on you...I just...”

“No, don’t be,” Marinette stammers, “I umm, I’m glad you felt comfortable...opening up to me.”

Adrien smiles, “Well, I better get going. I’ll talk to you later.”

“Yeah, yeah. Talk to you later,” Marinette awkwardly smiles and waves as he leaves then allows herself to panic.

“What?! Adrien is Chat Noir! No, I...I can’t believe this!”

“Well believe it Marinette. It’s true,” Tikki says.

“Ughhh, this is bad, this is really bad,” Marinette paces the room, “Forget the fact that the boy I’ve been crushing on all this time is actually my partner, but...Tikki...I know his secret identity!”

“Yes, but I’m sure it will be okay.”

“No! What if Shadow Moth were to get ahold of me? I could give up us both and then Shadow Moth could merge our Miraculous to make whatever wish he wants come true! Tikki, this is really bad!”

“It’s going to be okay, Marinette. As long as Shadow Moth doesn’t find out, it’s going to be fine.”

“Ughhh this is a disaster!”

“You always figure things out. You’ll work through this too.”

*Later that night*

“Hello, Milady,” Chat Noir says, meeting up with Ladybug for patrol.

Ladybug shrieks, “Ahh, Chat Noir! Hey, so I guess we can umm patrol.”

“Umm yeah,” he says, “Are you okay?”

“Oh yeah, I’m great!”

“Ok...let’s get to work then.”

“Right, yeah. We should do that,” Ladybug laughs nervously.

“You umm, sure you’re okay?”

“Never better! Why wouldn’t I be?”

“Well you seem a little off this evening.”

“What?! No, that’s crazy!”

“Uh huh.”

“But let’s umm talk about you. Anything exciting? Spill anything crazy, or something?”

“Umm”

“Because if so, you know you could tell me all about it.”

“Well, actually, I did umm tell someone that I am Chat Noir today. Someone close to me, someone I trust. Although that sounds dumb to me now.”

“You told someone! Man, now why would you do such a thing?”

“I just...needed to tell someone,” Chat Noir says, “And, let’s not forget that you also entrusted someone with knowing your secret identity.”

Ladybug starts to say something but stops and growls instead, “Fine, you’re right. I still can’t believe you told someone though.”

“Don’t worry, I trust her.”

“Well, just remember we have to be careful, especially since Shadow Moth has all the Miraculous now.”

“Yeah, of course. Don’t worry, It’s all under control.”

Ladybug looks at him and smiles, “Man, what would I do without you, Kitty cat.”

11. Deflagration- meaning to heat a substance until it burns away rapidly. I have no idea what this may refer to, but it certainly doesn’t sound good.

13. Migration- meaning to move from one place to another, which could be a reference to the horse miraculous since it possesses the power to teleport. However, this could also mean things are getting worse. The main thing to think of when hearing migration being butterflies migrating from one region to another.

15. Intuition- Luka’s miraculous, miraculous of the snake

16. Protection- Nino’s miraculous, miraculous of the turtle

Let Her Go

Chat Noir spends the entire series obsessed with Ladybug, but she is always rejecting him. In rewriting this show, I would allow Chat Noir to give up on Ladybug and be with someone else, kind of like Adrien with Kagami in the show, except Chat Noir would be completely over Ladybug. It wouldn’t be until Chat Noir is long over her that Marinette would realize that she liked him. However, by this point, she would be too late.

Kuro Neko did create this scenario to a certain extent, but it was more about their partnership and not really on the love square. Same way with the New York special. Chat Noir gives up his Miraculous, which leaves Ladybug freaking out and feeling unable to carry on without him. Of course that’s where Chat Walker comes in in Kuro Neko and shows her how much she really needs Chat Noir. However, in the context of Let Her Go, there is no giving up the Miraculous. Chat Noir just moves on, and really lets her go this time. Even though a part of him will always love her deep down, over time those feelings become easier to set aside and even forget about for a while, which is when he finds someone new. It’s when he moves on, and becomes truly happy with someone new that he’s not consumed by his love for Ladybug. 

Of course if Chat Noir has found someone, that means Adrien has, which would drive Marinette crazy. But he is happy and everyone can tell. Marinette, being the good friend that she is can learn to be okay seeing Adrien happy with someone other than her. Adrien may be the one she loves, but what would be really eye opening to her is the fact that she would find herself having an easier time accepting that Adrien has found someone than Chat Noir. She wouldn’t want to admit it, but as Ladybug, she counts on Chat Noir’s flirting. His love and loyalty towards her mixed with his never ending flirting and puns is what keeps her going. She functions better with them. When Chat Noir lets her go, he no longer has a reason to flirt with her. He is happy and committed to someone else and he’s gonna be more inclined to share that side of himself with his significant other. Now, Chat Noir being who he is will still make his jokes and probably still flirt a little out of instinct, but it’s different. Ladybug can tell how happy he is, and she’s surprised with herself when she starts feeling jealous. She’s not jealous that he’s in a relationship, she’s jealous that he’s not in a relationship with her. 

Marinette becomes more confused than ever. She thinks it’s insane for her to be feeling this way towards Chat Noir, he’s always been just her partner and friend, nothing more. However, she can’t help but suddenly see how loyal and sweet he his. She begins to realize how much she depends on him and how she would feel to lose him. Marinette is so confused by these feelings for Chat Noir that Adrien being in a relationship doesn’t mess with her nearly as much. She still hates that Adrien is in love with someone else, but she also realizes how rare it is for Adrien to be truly happy and now that he has it, she wouldn’t want to mess that up.

This relationship that Adrien is in would carry on for a little bit, enough to really do some good for Adrien and Marinette’s character development. Eventually Ladybug finds the strength to express her feelings towards Chat Noir. Although she is much more confident as Ladybug, she’s still Marinette underneath, which means that her growing love for Chat Noir puts her a little on edge. She has a harder time focusing when he’s around and although she can pull herself together, she finds herself having to pay extra attention to what’s going on around her. After a while, she can’t take it anymore and decides to tell him how she feels, which in theory goes well, but in reality is a bit of a disaster. 

Chat Noir is happy and in love so Ladybug telling him that she has finally decided she likes him is a complete shock. He has no idea what to do because while he does love his girlfriend, it’s Ladybug. His first real friend, the one person he has always been able to count on, the love he couldn’t stop thinking about. Chat Noir gets mad, an “are you kidding me” kind of moment. He storms off and takes some time to think about what he should do and how he really feels. Ladybug is a mess. She’s regretting telling him, but Tikki keeps trying to assure her that things will work out fine. 

Marinette and Adrien are both obviously upset at school and no one understands why. The two of them end up talking to each other about it. Marinette figures there’s no harm in telling Adrien about her love troubles because he’s in a relationship anyways, of course she doesn’t say who she has feelings for. Adrien explains how confused he is because he feels like he has to make a choice and no matter what he chooses, someone is going to get hurt. Confiding in one another doesn’t fix either of their problems, but they do at least feel a little better after talking about them. There is one thing that Marinette points out that resonates with Adrien, which is that she didn’t know she loved him until she let him go. Of course he has no idea that this statement is referring to him, but it makes him think of Ladybug. And, after this conversation he has an idea of what he should do.

April Fools

Imagine an episode of Miraculous that takes place on April Fools day and someone is akumatized to go along with April Fools. This villain goes around giving people some alternate or twisted version of what they want at the moment as a way of getting people’s hopes up just to crush them. For example: if someone is wanting ice cream, this villain would give it to them, but the ice cream would be fake (or something like that). Imagine Marinette is trying once again to tell Adrien how she feels and the villain makes it happen for her except Adrien turns her down really badly, which of course wouldn’t actually be real. The villain’s whole purpose is to just play April Fools jokes on people, and Ladybug and Chat Noir have to figure out what’s actually real. They get hit so their powers won’t work and it takes them a little longer to defeat the villain because of it.

Season Four (so far)

        Season four has had some much more serious, interesting episodes dealing with plot lines that have much more substance and flair. Instead of a season worth of Marinette stumbling over her words in front of Adrien and trying to figure out to tell him how she feels, the writers focus on different ideas. 

        First off, Marinette being the guardian now comes with a whole new range of inspiration that can be used to make the series better. Right off the bat, the first episode of the season demonstrates how Marinette is struggling to find a balance between her life as Ladybug and her life as Marinette. While Truth is focused primarily on Marinette and Luca’s relationship, her new role as guardian is also a factor in the turmoil that Marinette faces. In Gang of Secrets we actually see her breakdown because of all the stress, and for the first time, the writers express very clearly just how hard it is on Marinette to be Ladybug. Of course, she loves protecting Paris and being Ladybug, but in doing so, she has to push a lot of people away and sacrifice things in her life as Marinette because of her secret identity. For example, she has to give up the opportunity of a lifetime being a fashion designer in New York City, she has to let go of Luca, and she has to set aside her feelings for Adrien. She can’t even be completely open or honest with Chat Noir because they can’t know anything about each other’s identities. Marinette feels so alone that eventually she can’t take it anymore an breaks down. Of course this is what leads to her revealing her secret identity to Alya. 

        In Furious Fu Marinette wonders if she should even rightfully have the Miracle Box when the celestial guardian show up to take it from her. She wonders if it would be best for her to give it up, and thankfully, Chat Noir doesn’t let her. He helps her to realize that she is the guardian and they shouldn’t just give up because this old fashioned master tells them to. They fight for the powers they’ve been given and show the celestial guardian just how capable they truly are of being worthy Miraculous holders. Throughout the rest of the season, Marinette continues to worry about keeping the Miracle Box safe and handling her new responsibilities. The writers finally shed light on the fact that living a double life would be extremely difficult to manage, especially as a fourteen year old girl. 

        Secondly, Chat Noir becomes tired of Ladybug constantly rejecting him. While it has been fun to watch the constant flirting between Chat Noir and Ladybug, knowing exactly how it will turn out, this concept grew old a long time ago. The farther into the series they’ve gotten, the more mean Ladybug has become with him. She’s just always expecting him to be there, no matter what, which is a sweet sentiment, but it means a lot less when she isn’t being there for him. When she is leaving him out, standing him up, making plans without talking to him, and refusing to let him be a part of strategies. Ladybug is trying, she isn’t meaning to hurt Chat Noir, but she needs to understand that he is not just a toy to play with. 

        Chat Noir really humbled Ladybug in Kero Neko, leaving her the way he did, and she deserved it. She wasn’t going to understand how bad she was truly hurting Chat Noir any other way. Ladybug is overwhelmed, sure, but she isn’t the only superhero that’s struggling to find a balance. Chat Noir is her partner and friend, and while I understand why they must keep stuff from each other to protect their identities, they should at least be able to lean on each other when it comes to trying to live their double lives. I’m proud of Chat Noir for finally realizing and doing something about the way Ladybug treats him. She needed to be taught that lesson. (Now I just hope the writers don’t undo everything good they have established) 

        Next thing is that there has been a lot of great character development this season. I already mentioned this by talking about Marinette struggling to be the guardian and Chat Noir becoming tired of being rejected, but there’s been a lot of other development as well. Marinette is able to talk to Adrien a little easier now (not perfect of course, but it’s more bearable to watch at least), we’ve learned a bit more about Plagg and Tikki, we’ve been able to see Adrien deal with his emotions some, and Ladybug and Chat Noir both seem to be getting more familiar with the amount of power they possess. The writers have been developing the characters in this season more than ever, and I hope to see these things stick. Character development is such an important part of any good story, and while this show has had some here and there throughout the series, it’s needed a lot more. In the past it’s been a lot of build up for nothing, a lot of plot points that don’t go anywhere, which has made the show harder to watch at times. However, if the writers would just pick an idea and stick with it, maybe some plotlines would actually follow through. 

        A lot has come to light this season and there’s still a lot to reveal. Of course the season isn’t over yet so there’s still time for things to change, but we are now at least to a point where I feel good about saying that season four has been by far the best. There are still things about season four that I am really not happy about, like the fact that the writers destroyed Chloe’s character. However, this season as a whole has felt much more grown up. Providing us with episdoes such as Truth, Lies, Glaciator 2, and Hack San has been a great change in pace. We’ve been able to watch episodes that have provided us with the kind of content we have craved. The kind that does’t feel so much like you’re watching a kids show. Instead, watching many of season four’s episodes, I have felt genuinely interested in the content and less irritated by the usual repetitive cycle.

I had a dream last night about Miraculous where Ladybug and Chat Noir were trying to defeat Hawk Moth. They knew each other’s identities and were running for their lives. Someone had been akumatized and Ladybug and Chat Noir saved them, but then Hawk Moth showed up and decided to try to take matters into his own hands. The two of them had to feed their kwamis so they detransformed, but in the meantime, Hawk Moth gained control of a bunch of Parisians that swarmed Adrien and Marinette, keeping them from being able to transform back. As these zombified Parisians came after them, it became clear that they were more concerned about capturing Adrien. The people started shooting at them and poor Plagg even took a bullet, but luckily he was okay. Eventually the superheroes got to a place where Marinette was able to distract the crowd long enough for Adrien to transform since he was more in danger. Chat Noir then cataclysmed the ground beneath him and Marinette so they could escape. She was then able to transform and they came back to defeat Hawk Moth. And then….I woke up.

Marinette/Ladybug songs:

Realize by Colbie Caillat: This is basically the epiphany of what I imagine Marinette’s diary being like.

Let Her Go by Passenger: I have a post in our drafts going into depth on the significance of this song with Miraculous. The premise being that Marinette’s feelings for Adrien would keep her from ever loving someone else until it’s too late. 

As the World Caves In by Sarah Cothran: Marinette is constantly walking around with all this pressure as Ladybug, while also struggling to keep up with her everyday life. This song illustrates someone with the world on their shoulders, trying desperately not to fail, and that’s how I picture Marinette. I can also imagine a song like this playing in the series finale as a last hurrah with Ladybug and Chat Noir. The two of them fight a war in which they know that even if they win, they’ll still lose, which makes this last battle the most significant.

Over My Head by The Fray: It’s just what it sounds like...Marinette is always in over her head. 

Out On the Town by FUN: The energy and rhythm of this song match Marinette’s. The constant second guessing and questioning oneself demonstrated in this song makes it seem like this was written just for her.

Every Little Thing she does is Magic by Sleeping at Last: Pretty self-explanatory

Armor by Landon Austin: The lyrics to this song fit Adrien/Chat Noir’s loyalty to his friends, Ladybug, and the city very well. Adrien is always there for everyone, and although he may be famous, he does not get enough attention or credit. Armor describes someone laying it all on the line for someone they love, and this is Adrien’s greatest character trait. It’s why he was given the cat miraculous in the first place.

Swollen by Francisco Martin: “I love the way you say your scared to hold me.” Listening to this song and thinking about Adrien makes me sad. Poor guy needs more love. This could be a love square song, but it’s more one sided because it sounds more like Adrien’s feelings for Ladybug.

Two of Us by Louis Tomlinson: Chat Noir’s patrol song. It’s not my favorite on the playlist, but I think it fits well at least.

Mr. Brightside by The Killers: I feel like Adrien would listen to songs like this.

Love Square songs:

I Almost Do by Taylor Swift: Marinette debating on whether or not to call Adrien. Chat Noir trying to decide if he wants to go after Ladybug again. In a post reveal world where they’ve broken up for some reason or maybe haven’t gotten together just yet, I Almost Do could be a good song to match the moment. 

Til Kingdom Come by Coldplay: I imagine this as a dancing in the rain, kiss under the umbrella, finally admitting their feelings for one another kind of scene. They stare into each other’s eyes, hold each other close, and kiss just as the beat drops. Gosh I sound so corny.

Rewrite the Stars by Zac Efron and Zendaya: The classic “want but I can’t have” kind of love. With all of their responsibility, they can’t keep up with a relationship. Even when the reveal does happen (yes, I’m manifesting it), maintaining a relationship is gonna be difficult for them to do. 

Good to You by Marianas Trench: This song is about the promises a couple makes to one another. It’s cute how much the love square has done this without even realizing it, they aren’t even together, but they would do anything for one another. Of course that is what makes them such great superheroes and friends.

Enchanted by Taylor Swift: There is the whole love at first sight concept in this song, although that actually isn’t the case with Marinette and Adrien’s feelings. However, the premise of being enchanted by someone does match up with their love for one another. Adrien fell in love with Ladybug because she was his first friend that really cared about him. Marinette fell in love with Adrien because he was genuinely nice to her when he didn’t have to be. It wasn’t love at first sight, but sparks flew in a way that neither of them could ever forget.

Turning Page by Sleeping At Last: When these two inevitably get together, I see this being the song that plays in the background, or something like it. The lyrics describe a couple going through a lot together and remaining close through it all. So, in Miraculous, this song would be a good representation of Adrien and Marinette’s relationship.

Other characters or the show in general:

Run Through Walls by The Script: The entire city of Paris would bend over backwards for these two superheroes. Plus Marinette and Adrien have an unnaturally tight friend group. I can’t listen to this song now without thinking about how well it describes the relationship between these friends.

Dancing As One by Nick Howard: I originally pictured this as a love square song, but I can see it fitting more of the other characters as well. Mostly, I can imagine this song playing in the credits scene of a big finale episode or if the series finale ended with Ladybug and Chat Noir patrolling Paris together, I think this song would be a good fit for it. Kind of like how the Spider-Man movies often end with Peter swinging through New York, I like the idea of seeing something like that with Ladybug and Chat Noir. 

Natural by Imagine Dragons: The same premises with this song as Dancing As One with Ladybug and Chat Noir patrolling the city. That or a final battle between Ladybug, Chat Noir, and some of the other miraculous holders.

Superheroes by The Script: I don’t know exactly where this song fits. I think it matches Adrien’s perseverance a lot and Marinette’s continuous growth as a character. But, I also see it representing Ladybug and Chat Noir’s powers and team dynamic. How the two of them have powers opposite to their personalities that make them better. This song is primarily about no matter what pain they go through, they keep fighting to become stronger and not let their pasts define them. In addition to this concept matching up with the superheroes, the city as a whole is always focusing on staying strong through akuma attacks and such. But mostly, I listen to this song and think of Ladybug and Chat Noir’s partnership first and foremost.

I’ve been rewatching a lot of Miraculous lately and it’s become increasingly funnier how many times Hawk Moth is like, “I’ll get you next time, Ladybug!” I just keep thinking, “Ok Hawk Moth, ok.” Gotta admire the perseverance of this idiot, even after getting beat by a couple of teenage superheroes every time.
