I'm back (?!)
An update of sorts as I haven't been on here in forever! I was looking (#stalking) a few of my faves that I've been following forever and I remembered how amazing this space was back when I first signed up in 2012 (I think or 2011???) a long time ago anyway... How I lost some weight and started feeling good about myself and met some cool people. And then it all kind of faded away when I moved back home to NZ and yeh... I'm not sure but it would be fun to post regularly again! So anyway... An update!
Back in May which feels equal parts forever ago and not that long ago... My good friend Katrice came over from Aus and we road tripped around the North Island. We met when we both lived in Edinburgh back in the winter of 2010/2011 and it was so great just hanging out with her! We went to Hobbiton (totally recommend and Im not a big Lord of the Rings/Hobbit person. We also went to Rotorua, Taupo, Napier (wine tasting!), Wellington and Ohakune. So much fun! Now to convince her to com back so we can drive around the South Island... :)
And then in July we went for a family holiday to Club Med in Bali. It was amazing!! There were 20 of us (#blendedfamily) and we all got on really well, with enough activities for everyone. I spent a lot of time at the adults pool (pictured) reading and avoiding the sun. Fun fact: I’m the whitest person in my family and they don’t let me forget it, fortunately this also means they always give me the seats with the best shade!
I then decided that I wanted to start adventuring in my own city a bit more so I went on short day trips out of Auckland. I went on this great walk one day in the rain. It was super pretty and there were lots of birds and sheep, all was good until the end where I had to hike through ankle high mud on a steep slope surrounded by cows... I know cows are pretty harmless out of calving season but they were giving me the side-eye so I turned my up as loud as it would go and practically ran down the hill to the car - not all Kiwi’s are used to cows...
I then booked a trip to hike to Everest Base Camp(!!) (I need to write a whole other post about this) in 2017 so I upped my walking game. Above a few photos that are all walking distance t my house. Including the Auckland Harbour, local streets, Eden Park (the home of the All Blacks) and Cornwall Park which is in the city and has livestock on it... still not used to cows though...
Also pretty evening walks up Mt Eden!!
A couple of other random things... including a long weekend trip to Cromwell (near Queenstown) to set up an apartment for my mum and stepdad; Priscilla the stage show, complete with cocktails and light up cocktail glasses at midday on a Sunday; and views for our work client function.
And now it’s summer and the pohutukawa (our Christmas trees) are in bloom. Auckland looks its best in the summer and the above pictures are from some beaches in the city. Most people don’t stop in Auckland but if you do come, come in summer and hire a car. There are some beautiful spots!
I went wreath making with my mum and now my place is starting to look more Christmassy. We also had our friends annual Christmas lunch today and it was delicious and one of my new favourite traditions.
And with the longest post that I’ve ever done I think I’m all up to date so I’m going to say goodnight and head to bed. Only 9 1/2 more days until summer holidays - can’t wait!!!!!
