26 Reminders for Going to School Like a Badass
1. Your attitude dictates your experience, so start finding things to get psyched about.
2. Stock up on healthy snacks in your house!!! You’ll be glad you did when the study-munchies roll around (and they always do).
3. Invest in a good planner. Especially if you take part in multiple extra-curriculars, I can’t stress how helpful it is having a place to check back on deadlines and big events.
4. Write down all your teachers’ names and emails as soon as you get them, so you’re not searching for them when you’re absent.
5. No one is having as much fun as their snapchat story makes it seem.
6. Don’t believe what your peers tell you about tests they take before you, study how much YOU need to.
7. Be nice to your math teacher. Partial credit on math problems might save your grade.
8. Don’t throw out syllabuses/first day handouts!!!! Theres a good chance they have information on the late policy and a gazillion other helpful things.
9. In fact, try to hold on to as many papers as you can for when finals inevitably attack.
10. No one knows you wore those jeans yesterday.
11. Be conscious of how you smell. Don’t be B.O. kid, but also try not to suffocate your lab partner with the scent of artificial fruit/flowers.
12. That cookie in the cafeteria is probably not worth 95 cents. Pack snacks from home to resist overpriced school treats.
13. If you’re carrying around a travel mug of coffee, people will usually leave you alone.
14. Don’t spend more time planning your study schedule than actually studying. Just get your books out and do it.
15. Never underestimate the amount of motivation you can get from watching Legally Blonde (movie or musical).
16. Try to attend at least one school sporting event per season, even if thats not really your scene. Some teachers even offer extra credit for going to big games!
17. Don’t be that kid that asks the teacher when you’re getting your tests back. They have like a gazillion to grade. You’ll get them when they’re done.
18. Have a pump-up playlist for the ride to school and the walk to your first class. Nothing feels more badass than walking through crowded hallways while listening to Halsey’s “New Americana”.
19. Set up a back-up study zone for when you need a change of pace.
20. Don’t put off creative projects because you think they’ll be less time consuming. There’s nothing worse than glitter gluing a scale model of the U.S. Senate at 3 AM because you thought it would be quick and easy.
21. That extra 10 minutes of sleep is not worth the risk of oversleeping completely. Get up, splash your face with some cold water, and get this show on the road.
22. Find a school inspiration, whether it be a really hardworking friend or a studyblr you follow. Check their progress whenever you need motivation.
23. If someone only ever talks to you when they need to copy the homework, they’re using. Don’t indulge them.
24. Doing your own work is so SO important. Plagiarism can destroy careers.
25. Creative outlets can be so refreshing, like a diary, a private tumblr, a sketchbook, whatever floats your boat.
26. When all else fails, remember how lucky you are to be getting an education. School isn’t a punishment, its an opportunity for you to create a kick-ass foundation for the rest of your life.

Hello, fellow busy, broke, suddenly-living-on-your-own students. I’m sure you’ve all been told about the importance of eating well, but when you have a tiny grocery budget and six papers to write, it can be pretty hard to take the time to eat well. Convenience takes priority over health, and then suddenly you feel like crap, the papers haven’t been written, and you’re out of money. I’ve been there. Hopefully some of the tips that have helped me will also help you!
Tips
Stay hydrated. I know you’ve heard this one before (a lot), but on top of being good for you in tons of ways, drinking water also fills you up and keeps cravings at bay.
Get your fruits and veggies in. When I first lived alone, I neglected fruits and vegetables in my diet because I wasn’t going through them fast enough and they kept going bad, so I didn’t buy them. Friend, invest in freezer bags. Chop up fruits and vegetables and stick them in the freezer so you can pull them out and make something with them (or just snack on them) at a moment’s notice.
Big bags of chopped frozen vegetables. You need them in your life. My store has them for $2.
Just skip the junk food. Seriously, don’t even go down that aisle at the store.
On that note, drinking pop (or any processed sugary drinks, ex energy drinks and sports drinks) on an everyday basis is a no-no. That amount of sugar does you no favours health-wise. If you really want to drink something sweet, 100% pure fruit juice (store brands usually have it), or homemade lemonade made with lemon juice and honey are WAY better options.
Pre-making meals on the weekend or a less busy day (if you know you’ve got several busy days ahead) will save you tears. Pretty much any meal you want can be stuffed into plastic bags and frozen, then reheated when you need it.
Eating healthy IS NOT expensive. Bust that myth. Stock up on eggs, bananas, onions, plain pasta, rice, canned beans (or dried! Even cheaper, but a bit more work), canned tomatoes, etc. When you break it down, they really are way cheaper (and more filling, so you don’t need to eat as often) than grabbing MacDonald’s, eating ramen, or getting frozen TV dinners.
Invest in a small blender and make smoothies. Smoothies are an AMAZING way to get fruit into your diet. I like to supercharge my smoothies with protein powder and spinach as well as fruit and milk, which make them pretty much a full-blown breakfast. (blenders are also awesome for loads of other recipes, but smoothies are what I get the most use out of them for)
Chilli is my favourite no-fail healthy dinner. I toss some chopped onions, some ground beef, a can of beans (black beans are my personal favourite), a can of crushed tomatoes, a bunch of frozen veggies, and a ton of chilli and cayenne pepper into a pot, cook until the meat is done, then bam! Meals for a week. Recommend eating with rice.
Onion soup for the sick/cold/etc: chop up onions and throw them into a pot with some meat and oil, let them cook just a bit, then fill up the pot with water. Add veggies, whatever spices you like, and boil until the meat is done (I like to let it boil for a long time so at this point I go off and do something and just let it simmer). Onions are rich in vitamin C, and this soup beats canned chicken noodle every. single. time.
Eggs are miracle food. Fry them, toss them on rice or toast, hard-boil them for a protein-rich on-the-go snack, try making French toast or an omelette if you need something different. Really. Miracle food.
When in doubt, stick spinach into it. You can hardly taste it in most things, and you get your greens in.
Don’t beat yourself up over your diet. Be conscious of eating healthy, but please don’t obsess over every calorie or refuse to allow yourselves any treats, ever. Your body can take the occasional cookie or bag of chips, so long as it’s not all the time.
Foods that are said to improve memory or brain function (not a scientist so I can’t 100% vouch for these but they are generally nutrient-rich and good for you!)
Apples
Fish
Berries, especially blueberries and other dark berries
Dark chocolate (75% cocoa type)
Beans and legumes
Avocado (awesome in smoothies!)
Nuts, esp almonds
Spinach
Whole grains and seeds (definitely go for whole grain bread over white whenever possible)

“Got the morbs” should be a thing.
Victorian slang is AMAZING, and select phrases really need to make a comeback.
“Bitch the pot” - Pour the tea (HOW RELEVANT IS THIS!?)
“Bang up the elephant” - Absolutely perfect; super stylish
“Well, that’s shot the bale” - Something that has missed the mark entirely
“Church-bell” - A woman prone to gossip
“Chuckaboo” - A dear friend, a bosom chum
“Beer and skittles” - A great time (see also: Irish Gaelic “craic”)
“Butter on bacon” - Something overdone or too extravagant
“Cupid’s kettle drums” - Breasts, particularly large ones
“Gigglemug” - A cheerful smiling face
All of these??? Make me smile??? They’re so weird and wonderful I love them??? Especially bitch the pot because that’s something I could totally hear myself saying…that and chuckaboo
I worked in a Victorian tea house in my youth and I’m telling you, you haven’t lived till you hear a the 98 year old lady (this was some 15 years ago) utter the words “bitch the pot” because it was what they used to say when the tea house first opened and it just sort of stuck through all the generations.

Honestly idols that study and go to highschool or college/university while being idols are amazing and so hard working that they inspire me to work hard with my studies too, because if they can study and pass their exams with 2 to 5 hours of sleep and a packed schedule + tours then I can do it too.
