Potions class is Seungcheolâs absolute favourite subject. Even above getting his hands dirty in Herbology with his Head of House, and learning useful and imaginative spells in Professor Flitwickâs Charms class, and the mystique of Defence against the Dark Arts, the precision and suspense that comes with brewing a perfect draught of Living Dead, or a tantalizing love potion is far more exciting to him. Sure, Professor Snape can be a difficult person to deal with, with his snark and his constant condescending comments, but he is like that with every Hufflepuff so to Seungcheol it is just another daily thing he has to overcome. Anyway, itâs not like Professor Snape is unable to recognise a good student when he has one.
Potions had always been his favourite subject, ever since he was little and playing around with his mini potions set (safe for little sorcerers), but his friend and fellow Hufflepuff Joshua would say he gained a sudden interest about six months ago, in the middle of September when Ravenclaw Jihoon came poking and prodding him to tutor him for his OWLâs. As Joshua told him, he had always been good at making potions, but he never was one for the theoretical part of it. Seungcheol could tell you step by step how to make an Anti-Paralysis potion, but ask him the use and effects of Dittany and he would have to look it up, it's somewhat of a miracle that he passed the written exam on his own OWL's. Jihoon was a little bit fickler with details and on their first tutoring session he heaved probably more books on the table than Seungcheol had opened in his life. His first instinct was to tell Jihoon he would be better suited with a different tutor, but now six moths later he is damn glad he kept his mouth shut.
Jihoon is always first to arrive at the library for their sessions (Monday: an hour before dinner, Wednesday: two hours after dinner, Friday: Lunch), and Seungcheol is left to search the big room for the small, dark-haired boy. Today he is at the very back, one row in front of the Restricted Section, at a small table underneath a stained glass window and the sun is shining down on him and colouring him blue and pink and green and orange. Seungcheol takes a moment to look at him, a soft smile on his face that widens when he hears Jihoon is singing to himself. Jihoon finally looks up and startles a little when he sees him standing there, then he smiles back at him and waves him over.
âWhat are you standing there for, we only have thirty minutes. No time to waste.â While Jihoon is talking, Seungcheol makes his way over and drops his book bag to the floor and takes a seat in the chair beside the younger boy. Jihoon scoots his chair closer and leans into Seungcheolâs shoulder and he drops a kiss on his cheek when he has finished his sentence. Seungcheol glances down at the books on the table and sees that Jihoon is writing an essay for Transfiguration, no book on Potions in sight and then he smiles into a chaste kiss to Jihoonâs lips.
âWe could have met up somewhere other than the library, if you werenât planning on studying,â he teases and pulls Jihoon into a firmer kiss to smother their giggles.
âI actually have some questions for the practical exam, maybe you have a couple tips,â Jihoon pulls back and picks up a quill and readies a new roll of parchment and Seungcheol is left dumbfounded for a second at the quick change of subject. âWould it be best to prepare all the ingredients before I begin, or while the potion is brewing? I have a feeling theyâre gonna assign the Draught of Peace at the examination and I made that quite well, but it stressed me out a little at the time and I just thought maybe I should have âŚâ, Seungcheol cuts him off with a deep kiss and a playful bite to his lower lip before Jihoon could go into a full blown rant on how he could possibly do better than he already did.
âYou should always prepare the ingredients while the potion is brewing, you donât want to shake the powdered porcupine quills at the beginning and then fail because they had settled again by the time you were going to use them.â
Jihoon is one of the most composed people Seungcheol knows, but the stress of his OWL classes and the exams coming up in just a little over two months is finally starting to get to him too. And just a nice make-out session in a hidden corner of the library isnât going to begin to cure that.
âHow about this, we go to the Great Hall now and have lunch, and then later tonight weâll get ourselves a nice room up on the seventh floor, right next to Barnabas, and not think of anything school related for the entire weekend, okay?â Seungcheol can see the panic building in Jihoonâs eyes and cups his round cheeks in his palms, âyou need a break Jihoon, itâs getting to be too much even for you.â Jihoon is obviously stuck between accepting the offer and drowning himself in even more books to make up for the time he has spent considering it, and so Seungcheol kisses him again and runs a hand through his soft hair to settle at the back of his neck. Then he lets it glide slowly down Jihoonâs spine as he kisses him once more, deeper and longer and full of intent. âIâll make it worth your whileâ he whispers against Jihoonâs lips and when he pulls back to look at him, Jihoon finally agrees.
