she feels like more than just a breath of fresh air.

I’ve learned to only see love through the ways in which it hurts me.   Never the first flirty embrace or late night kiss on date two.  No, that first shock numbs my entire body. It’s not until the last ripples dissipate do I feel is the gutted space from the root that has been ripped out of my chest.

I remember It was like holding my breath for an entire day gulping down the air I thought Maybe it could seep to my lungs because I didn’t want to breathe, didn’t want to open my mouth. When I’m anxious, focusing on dying helps steady my energy to a single thought.
 It puts a rope in the hand of everyone that I love, ties the other around my own neck and invites us to a game of tug of war. I steady my feet against the wall I’ve built I lock my knees and let the tension fight for me.

they teach about love, and sometimes about heartbreak, but never about accepting love again. And that seems to be the hardest part.
