you get a comment on tumblr. it's a bot trying to scam you. you get a DM. it's a bot trying to scam you. you get a message on instagram. its a bot trying to scam you. you're an author and you get an email telling you how much they loved your book and want to showcase it at their bookclub. it's a bot trying to scam you (and it uses bad AI to pretend it knows your story). you get a comment on ao3 saying how much they love your fic - and they made you fanart!! it's a bot trying to scam you. you get a hate comment on ao3 which insults your writing or calls you a monster for writing something "problematic". it's a bot. but at least that one isn't trying to scam you.

there's just something really cruel and insidious about this wave of scams going after creatives. You get an email and think someone genuinely loved what you made but - no. It's another scam. It's someone trying to trick you into sending them money. On AO3, it might literally just be a bot someone made specifically to be a hateful little shit.

putting the stuff you've made out there for everyone to see is hard and scary and we're all just bumping around looking for a bit of appreciation and love and connection and these bastards are using that to try to rob us. I hate it.

Something I find absolutely fascinating in the Dunk and Egg fandom - whether people ship Dunk with a Targaryen or not - is how Dunk joining the Kingsguard is seen as a reward or is viewed in positive manner when in all actuality it’s Dunk losing autonomy. If Dunk takes that oath, realistically he will outlive Baelor and Maekar because he’s sixteen when he met them at Ashford where as the Targaryen princes are, what, in their thirties or late twenties for Maekar.  (I honest don’t know, someone more entrenched in the fandom can tell me how old they are.) 

Even if Dunk trusts the King he joins the Kingsguard for to not misuse his strength and sword, he is beholden to the royal family. He is still beholden to the next King. 

While Dunk is someone of good morals - honestly, he’s one of more morally good characters in George’s universe - there are  more consequences to Kingsguard rebelling agansit a Prince or King then a random hedge knight. He will be an oath breaker. He will be scorned by the kingdoms for breaking those vows. 

So I genuinely find it fascinating how often people write Baelor or even later in life Maekar wanting Dunk to join the Kingsguard but rarely see it acknowledged that Dunk will be beholden to safety of /all/ of the royal family and will likely outlive his king which means the next king may not be one he views as a honorable man.

Which btw this is not me saying that trope is horrible - it absolutely makes sense that House Targaryen would one day want Dunk in the Kingsguard and they would not inherently see it as a hardship for Dunk to take on besides maybe not being allowed a family - I just am genuinely intrigued how the downside of Dunk joining the are Kingsguard are not focused on in a vast majority.

In my heart of hearts, I believe two very important things:

1— Yes, TOS Kirk is better than Spock at chess, not because he's just a chaos agent or lucky or Spock is distracted and letting him win or any of the other ways of minimizing TOS's extreme clarity on this point. Kirk keeps winning, as Spock himself gradually comes to accept, because Kirk is better at chess.

Behind their mannerisms, Kirk is the cooler-headed and more relentlessly calculating of the two, and fuses not only exhaustive background information but very quick, versatile adaptation and application of information + tactics to changing circumstances, even when the change is highly unexpected. Spock doesn't adapt to breaks in routine or expectation as quickly or as smoothly, and ... lbr, he pretends he's not more of a hothead than Jim Kirk in his totality will ever be, but it's a dirty lie.

2— Speaking of which, once Spock learns poker? He's way better at it than James "any time weird powers strip away my iron grip on my weaknesses I get consumed in analysis paralysis" Kirk. Spock loses now and then through a) monumental bad luck that speaks poetically to him or b) brazen pretense so other crew members will keep the eternal Enterprise poker championship going, rather than getting so disheartened they give up altogether.

Anyone who suggests there's something un-Vulcan about Spock's embrace of poker gets the galaxy's most withering non-expression imaginable. Surak teaches the importance of absolute self-discipline very much including one's facial expressions, seeing multiple possibilities but maintaining commitment to one's decisions, and controlling one's emotions. There is nothing un-Vulcan about Spock's immaculate poker face or evolution into Enterprise card shark.
