Despite being unisex(bidirectionally changing between a biologically 'male' and 'female' state depending on an internal cycle and environmental factos), Wyvara have two primary "genders"(Its weird, half caste(?) half gender). Keens and Brawns. This gender, rather than being tied to any physical aspects of themselves, is tied to their occupations. Wyvaran occupations are not set in stone either, so Wyvara do "change their gender" if they move to a different position. Wyvara children aren't gendered until they demonstrate a proclivity towards hobbies of one gender or the other. Until then, they are referred to as a generic "Child" pronoun. This originally arose from the power dynamic between Beastmasters and other clan members then the settled people emulating their Clans. Keen positions are those that primarily mental/personality focused(bureaucrats, programmers, accountants, leaders, scientists, lawyer). Keens are expected to be more lithe, calm, level-headed, considerate, smart, proactive, problem solvers and innately curious. Keen hobbies include, word games(wordle, connections, etc), puzzles(sudoku, picross, etc), videogames, hobby programming, card/board games(ranging from monopoly to twilight imperium style. Brawns do play board games but its mostly expected they would enjoy simpler ones), debates, astronomy, photography and cooking. Brawn positions are those that primarily work with their hands and body(trades, carpentry, construction, police, janitor, retail worker, factory work, trucking, pilots). Brawns are expected to be more strong, bold, brash, eager to prove themselves, social climbers, more aggressive. Brawn hobbies include playing music(not writing it), going to the gym, dancing, sports, hiking, sewing/knitting, martial arts, blacksmithing, and art. Keens are expected to dress more heavily, more jewelry and bulkier/movement restricting clothing. Brawns are expected to wear less and simpler clothing, little to no jewelry, and for clothes to show off their strength(think Wyvara version of muscle shirts and tank tops). These genders do exists on a spectrum to Wyvara but only so far. For example, an armchair general in the army would be considered Keen with Brawnly aspects, giving them more leeway into breaking gender norms. Vice verse would be the owner of a small woodworking business. They would be considered a Brawn with Keenly aspects. There are progressivist movements in Wyvara society to get rid of the dichotomy entirely or to at least adopt a neutral 3rd adult gender. There are many different names as what it should be and represent is hotly debated, but the most common one is Weaved. A weird example of this is how Wyvara write and play music. Composers are considered Keens while musicians are considered Brawns. As a Wyvaran, you definitely can compose your own music and play it but you would be considered "a bit fruity" by more conservative parts of Wyvara society. Traditional bands will have one or two Keen music producers that will write the music for Brawn performers to play. Brawns are also encouraged to seek out Keens as partners. This is because, traditionally, it would be them moving up societally. Going from a physical labor job to that of a mentally focused job would pay more, provide more free time and be easier. Its not expected that only Keens and Brawns couple but typically for Brawns its considered by conservatives "settling for less" to partner with another Brawn
In wyvaran society, the BIG hot-button issue is that of the codification of the 3rd neutral gender and the breakdown of the Keen-Brawn occupation gender dichotomy. This occurs relatively close after humanity is discovered and the religion of settleism(on popularity/influence level of christianity or islam) stopped exploding. 3 main factions of the conservatives(wanting to keep the keen-brawn dichotomy), the New Neutralists(who want a new gender, divorced from the old dicotomy, with no reference to it), the Inter Neutralists (who want a new gender WITHIN the dichotomy), and the Pontis Neutralist (who don't want a new 3rd gender but to allow a broader spectrum of gender expression between brawn and keens). Conservatives are more anti-human because they feel that we have caused this breakdown from cultural poisoning or having an "incorrect" way of interpreting gender norms. Plus a lot of their society is built on it and upending that, to them, is a threat to existing power structures and ways of life.
In the past, it originally stemmed from the reverence of the clan Beastmaster. Someone that controlled a majority of the knowledge of flight paths, animal husbandry/lore, "magical" knowledge, and religious rites. This holding of knowledge was revered or at least highly respected. They did less manual labor and more "speaking" to herd and the environment. They were leaders and responsible for herd and the clan. They were the first keens. When wyvara settled down, town leaders/administrators userped this reverence by styling themselves after the beastmasters. Using their leadership and knowledge as a kind of "right to rule." As population centers grew, others wanted to get in on this and slowly broadened the definition of "beastmaster like" positions to, "those who have knowledge and use their brains for their work." This is why, traditionally, its considered proper for Brawns to go after Keens by older/more traditional Wyvara. It's considered "moving up." Going from a lower, non-leader position to a position with more power/influence. The cultural non-binary no-no zone also stems from the idea of having a privlidged position. If anyone could be both a keen and a brawn, then it didn't matter if you had a thinking job. And these thinking jobs had a lot of power, and influence, so they passively ingrained the idea of "you HAVE to be one or the other, you cannot be both or neither.
