The start of this Rockin1000 journey began back in November when I was sick with some respiratory thing. I was layed up for 3 weeks.

So I was browsing Facebook and saw an ad for Rockin1000. I went down the rabbit hole because they were coming the U.S. for the first time. There were announcements to audition for the band. I thought I’m too old for this. So I pulled up some YouTube videos and saw all ages of people, even kids! I thought why not!

I took out my Bass and literally dusted it off because I haven’t played it in over 15 years. I’m like that with music, years will go by before I play again. Why I did that to myself I don’t know! Anyway, I practiced one of their tutorial songs for three days because I was pretty rusty. Sent in the audition video and four hours later I got a response that I was in the band! So cool! I’m so excited!

I took my Bass in to get new strings and a spa treatment and now it looks and plays as good as new. I haven’t a 1990 Charvel!

For the show we are playing 16 songs that we have to memorize. At first I thought my old ass will never do this. But I went to work and just practiced sections of the music until I got it down. Played the same section over and over u til it became muscle memory. All I can think of is if I just practiced like this when I was younger I would be phenomenal! Well here I am and I’m playing at the Superdome with Harry Connick Jr for a song! Who would have thunk!

A long time ago when my son was 14 he wrote to Harry’s fan club to get an autograph picture of Harry to surprise me for my birthday. They sent a picture with no autograph. I still have that picture and the letter. I’m bringing the picture with me and hopefully finally get it signed!

I hit the road next Tuesday for New Orleans. There are a bunch of us lending out instruments and amps to people flying in from overseas to use since there are issues with rental companies running out of gear. The show must go on!

I’m looking forward to meeting 999 new best friends!
