BROWN CARHARTT JACKET SAM SAVE MEEEEE
what's crazy to me is that supernatural is a whole ass incest show they have father and daughter kissing they have the son calling his mother a babe they have brothers named after their (married) grandparents they have said brothers being soulmates they have big brother and little brother drowning in homoerotic subtext and the list goes on and yet SOMEHOW people still act surprised when they find out sam and dean are shipped đđ like????
even the show instead of going "wtf fans are shipping the brothers lets ignore this and not talk about it until it goes away" they went "oh the fans are shipping the brothers lets have sam and dean being confused with a couple again and again and lets have a character writing wincest fiction and reading it out loud in an episode and also lets have two characters cosplaying sam and dean that are actually dating"
not subtle AT ALL and yet.....

Itâs okay, Dean. Itâs gonna be okay. Iâve got him.
Sketches from today. Reverse!verse or Michael!Dean and Lucifer!Sam? We just donât know
Youâre insane. Yeah, itâs been said.
Supernatural, 2.11 âPlaythingsâ
i spend so much time thinking about all the little rituals and rehearsed arguments sam and dean must have⊠every time on the show that they start bantering with âitâs like i always sayâ or similar, how many times dean makes the same joke heâs said 1000 times just so sam will roll his eyes, how often theyâll be at a diner and dean will threaten to order a burger for sam and then order his favourite salad anyway, how often sam will complain about drinking on a case while snagging two beers out of the fridge, how theyâll crowd too close during research or clap a hand on each otherâs shoulder when they pass by⊠who starts the coffee maker in the morning? who sweeps the floors? how many times do they bicker over who has to do the dishes only to stand in comfortable silence while they do it together, anyway?
Looking at the second gif I kept thinking of all those times Dean stopped Sam from getting off the sidewalk when they crossed the streets, and how by now this gesture is almost an instinct for him. Watch out for Sammy (1x14)

Spn being subtle as usual. Say hello to a big chunk of Deanâs character arc. Can you live up to your fatherâs legacy? Can you make your dad proud and put a bullet in your brotherâs head, or are you not man enough?
And hereâs where a lot of my âspn could have been a commentary on rejecting toxic masculinityâ thoughts come from. Because John is wrong about Sam, and heâs wrong about supernatural creatures being inherently evil or dangerous. The lack of mercy, compassion, humanity shown by most other hunters to the non-human is wrong. And if Dean kills Sam, it will destroy him. Narratively, killing Sam is only ever framed as a potential failing on Deanâs part. Itâs not something Dean wants to do, and itâs not something we want him to do.
A lot of what Sam champions, in the first few seasons at least, in contrast to John and Gordon and the attitudes drilled into Deanâs head, are correct. Independent thinking; compassion; sensitivity; diplomacy; tolerance; talking about your feelings like a semi-healthy person instead of killing things to fill the void. And Dean mocks Sam because most of these qualities are traditionally feminine, but Sam encourages them in Dean, and theyâre what keep Dean from becoming an emotionless killing machine.
To Dean, Sam represents family, love, home, hearth (and itâs true vise versa!), things that are also seen as traditionally feminine, maternal, soft. So itâs unsurprising that Gordon derides Deanâs love for Sam as weakness. âIâm surprised at you, Dean, getting all emotional. I had heard you were more of a professional than this.â A professional like Gordon, who killed his sister without blinking. A professional like John, who sacrificed being a good father to be a good hunter. Who has tasked Dean with killing Sam.
We donât want Dean to make his father proud. Saving peopleâs great, but he shouldnât continue Johnâs legacy of fear, hatred, unnecessary violence. âWhat if we killed things that didnât deserve killing?â If Deanâs not the man John was, then heâs a good man instead of a good soldier.
@swnylzonmydime Youâre so right.
Sam doesnât get enough credit for pulling Dean out of his repressed shell. âArenât you tired of being a good soldier? Dont you just wanna go apeshitâ except go apeshit is acknowledge dadâs abuse, value your own life, drop the cool guy facade, and break gender stereotypes.
Through example or otherwise Sam is pretty much always encouraging Dean to be himself, be open, be honest, and itâs courage Dean has admired in Sam since they were kids. Dean never wouldâve become as comfortable as he did with vulnerability and emotional intimacy if not for Sam paving the way.
