{coco is just Cocona from XG} + idol x oc
summary: When dating rumors link Jeongin to another idol, Coco insists they don’t care—right up until they start subtly (and not-so-subtly) keeping him as far away from her as possible at an award show. The members notice immediately.
———————————— 𐔌՞. .՞𐦯 ‘game start’
The rumors start before they even get to the venue.
Jeongin’s name is trending. Again.
Seungmin is the first to bring it up, because of course he is.
“Congrats,” he says from the van, not even looking up from his phone. “You have a girlfriend.”
“I what?” Jeongin chokes on nothing.
Felix leans over immediately. “Oh my god—wait—this angle does look kinda—”
“It does NOT,” Jeongin snaps, grabbing for the phone.
It’s a photo from a music show waiting room he was laughing, slightly leaned toward a female idol, her hand mid-gesture like she’d just tapped his arm. Completely harmless. Completely normal.
Apparently not to the internet.
“‘Chemistry is insane,’” Hyunjin reads over Seungmin’s shoulder. “‘Why are they so close?’”
Changbin whistles. “You move fast.”
“I didn’t DO anything!” Jeongin protests, ears already turning red.
Chan sighs. “Ignore it. It’ll pass.”
Across the van, Coco is quiet.
They’re looking out the window, chin resting on their sleeve, expression unreadable.
Felix glances at them. “…You okay?”
“Yeah,” Coco says simply.
By the time they arrive at the award show, it’s worse.
Now there are edits. Clips. Comments dissecting seconds of eye contact like it’s a crime scene.
“Wow,” Seungmin mutters. “They’ve built a whole storyline.”
Jeongin looks like he wants to evaporate.
“Just stay normal,” Chan reminds him. “Don’t react weirdly.”
“I’m not reacting weirdly,” Jeongin says, immediately reacting weirdly by tripping slightly as he gets out of the van.
They also notice something else.
Sitting down on the chairs, surrounded by their group members, laughing at something someone said.
Soon, they’re lining up for photos. Staff moving them into place. Cameras flashing nonstop.
“Closer, closer,” a photographer calls.
—and Coco steps forward at the exact same time.
Not aggressively. Not obvious.
Just enough to slot themselves between him and the direction the idol is standing.
Jeongin blinks, caught off guard.
Coco doesn’t look at him. They just adjust their stance, hands tucked into their sleeves, calm as ever.
From the side, Changbin leans toward Felix. “…Did you see that?”
Felix nods slowly. “Oh, I saw that.”
Seungmin doesn’t even try to hide his smirk. “Interesting.”
It happens again backstage.
They’re moving between waiting rooms, staff guiding them through crowded hallways.
The idol appears again—this time closer.
She smiles politely at Jeongin.
He bows slightly out of instinct.
Coco appears at his side like a shadow.
“Careful,” they say quietly, reaching out and lightly catching his sleeve. “You’re about to walk into that.”
There is, in fact, a random equipment case nearby.
Jeongin looks down. “Oh—thanks.”
By the time he looks back up, the moment is gone.
The idol has already been pulled away by staff.
Changbin makes a strangled noise behind them.
“No,” Coco says immediately, still calm.
Lee know is practically glowing. “Oh, this is fun.”
By the third time, it’s not subtle anymore.
They’re called up to the stage.
The lineup is messy, people shifting into position for acceptance speeches and photos.
Jeongin ends up—unfortunately—standing near her again.
He looks like he’s trying to shrink.
This time, they don’t just stand between them.
They reach out and take Jeongin’s wrist.
Just enough to guide him a half-step back.
“Stand here,” they murmur, like it’s nothing.
Jeongin doesn’t even question it.
He just lets himself be moved.
The crowd catches everything.
From the side of the stage, Han physically turns away, shoulders shaking.
“I’m losing my mind,” he whispers.
Felix grabs his arm. “They’re so obvious—”
Chan just watches, thoughtful.
Back in the waiting room, the tension finally cracks.
Changbin is the first to speak.
“Okay,” he says, pointing at Coco. “What was that.”
Coco looks up from where they’re sitting, unbothered. “What was what?”
“The… strategic positioning,” Seungmin says.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“You moved him three times,” Hyunjin says.
“Of what?” Changbin demands.
Jeongin, who had been watching from the corner, finally looks at them.
“…Were you doing all of that on purpose?” he asks.
Hyunjin clutches his chest. “Oh my god.”
Felix looks between them like he’s watching a live drama.
Jeongin’s ears are red again, but this time it’s different.
“…You were,” he says, softer now.
Coco finally looks at him.
There’s something in their expression.
“I didn’t like it,” they admit quietly.
“I KNEW IT—” Changbin shouts.
“JEALOUS~,” Han sing-songs.
Coco immediately looks away, pulling their sleeves over their hands. “It wasn’t—like that.”
“Then what was it like?” Hyunjin asks, grinning.
He laughs—soft, a little disbelieving
“You could’ve just said something,” he murmurs.
Coco shakes their head. “It didn’t matter.”
They glance at him again.
The members go dead silent.
Because now this is something else.
He rubs the back of his neck, suddenly very aware of eight pairs of eyes.
“Because,” he says slowly, “I wasn’t paying attention to any of that.”
He nods slightly toward the chaos outside. The rumors. The idol. The noise.
Then he looks back at them.
“I was paying attention to you.”
Changbin makes a strangled noise into Hyunjin’s shoulder.
Lee know whispers, “This is insane.”
Coco blinks, caught off guard in a way that’s rare for them.
Jeongin smiles a little, softer now. “So you didn’t have to drag me around the entire venue.”
Coco huffs quietly. “I did not drag you.”
“You literally grabbed my wrist.”
“You were standing wrong.”
And now, they are both a little flustered
A little too aware of each other.
The members are absolutely losing it.
Chan finally steps in before it escalates into chaos.
“Alright,” he says, clapping once. “That’s enough teasing for one night.”
But even as the room settles, the energy doesn’t fully go away.
Because now everyone knows.
Coco doesn’t deny it again.
