“And that is their strength. They do not seek conformity. They do not surrender. Out of their differences comes symmetry, their unique capacity to fight against impossible odds. I actually hopped across here to give the update on my moving blogs.
Like I said, I’m kinda DROPPING MOST THREADS. I really apologise to everyone, because I know I’ve always said that I wouldn’t do this; but it’s simply got to the point where there’s no way at all that I can keep going the way I was on here. I’ve had threads in my drafts that have been waiting on me for two years and, you know.
That’s not great.
I just need to start over from a mostly clean slate. There are still certain threads in my drafts that I’d be interested to continue - and I’ll contact the respective muns separately over the next few days with regards to carrying them across onto my new blog - but by necessity, that’s only a small number of threads.
To everyone else? Thanks so much for giving me a chance and being patient with me. And, when I launch the new blog, you are ABSOLUTELY welcome to hop across there and start some new interactions with me; I just need to clear out the things that I’ve left hanging for far too long, and to get a fresh start, you know?
Thanks for understanding!
(Link to the new blog will follow in due course, once I finish getting everything ready for it ^^)
So I had a random dream last night where Vanellope, not Anna, was Elsa’s little sister in Frozen. And apparently she had her own kind of magical power too? I don’t remember the details.
I’m not sure what to do with this, except to note that it happened xD;
You might be a genius in one area but you fail hard in other things. You try to apply your knowledge of one thing to something you aren't great at to varying results. You are reckless and do whatever it takes in pursuit of your goal (this usually involves something exploding). You were doing quantum physics this morning but charred your grilled cheese for dinner. Your social skills probably aren't the best but you're "that person that knows a lot about the thing" so that's something to be proud of.
Just a heads-up for my plans regarding moving to my new blog:
First, I’ll just move four muses across; my mains and favourites Vanellope, Webby, Connie and Angel. My intention is to take things slowly with them at first, work back into the flow of RPing gradually, so as not to overwhelm myself. I’m probably going to limit the overall number of threads I have going at any one time, because if past experience has taught me anything it’s that I can VERY easily get overwhelmed when I have too many on the go at once!
When I feel settled with those initial muses, there are three or four others who I’d like to bring across as secondary muses - Angry, Cera, Terra and maybe Lilo - and then leave it at that for permanent muses.
I am, additionally, considering bringing out ‘guest muses’ on the blog at sometime in the future - if I just spontaneously feel like playing another character, just giving them the spotlight for a thread or two without adding them permanently to my roster - but that won’t be for a while yet; not until I feel like I’ve got settled with the main muses, at least.
Blog development is still a bit WIP right now, so I don’t have a link to pass around; but I’ll be sure to advertise it here once it’s all set up ^^
Like I said a while ago, I’m moving blogs and dropping a lot of muses and threads; I’ve been really needing the fresh start for ages, so I’m just kinda finally getting to the point of doing that. Plus, between one thing and another, it’s been probably over a year since I was last consistently active here, so even everything I was owing is really old by now.
But I guess I’m just...
Not quite sure how to handle the transition.
I’ve said, I’ve always said on my blogs, that I would never drop a thread without telling my partner first. While I was active, that worked fine, and reassured my partners that no matter how slow I was (and I was VERY slow!) that I’d get to their threads eventually; but, well... it feels really rude to go into a ton of people’s IMs just to be all “Hey, you remember that thread we had going maybe 2 years ago that you’ve probably forgotten about by now? I’m reminding you of it just to say that I’m dropping it.” That’s, like... who does that?
But at the same time, if I don’t tell people, then I feel like I’m not keeping my promise about not dropping threads with no warning? But on the OTHER other hand, surely if it’s been so long, my partners would just be assuming that I’ve dropped their threads already, right?
I suppose I could just make a big post saying ‘all threads are dropped unless I contact you specifically about it’ and reblog it a few times to give everyone a chance to see it? But that feels like a cop-out, too.
I... dunno. If anyone has advice, I’d appreciate it!
It's always possible to reinvent yourself. You hold this beautiful and terrifying concept close to your heart. Is there a change you're putting off making, either because you're afraid of it, or because you want it so much and you're afraid you won't be able to finish what you start? Don't be scared - you can do anything, become anything, as long as it's what you truly want. Follow your heart, and your true self will emerge, phoenix-like, from the ashes of your regrets
Um... the blog here, you mean? I have to confess that it's... not really, at present. I still lurk around, but I've honestly been super-preoccupied recently, so I'm just not getting anything much done. Add to that, I'm kinda in the process of moving my main muses across to a fresh start on a new blog, after which I'll be shutting this one down.
So, it's not abandoned, at any rate! I'm just in the middle of a lot of things right now, making maintaining my tumblr RPing pretty low priority, I'm afraid.
Once I get the new blog established, though, I'll post the link to it over here; so if you want to keep checking back every now and then, you'll be able to catch me over there once I start getting active again ^^
Sorry for my slowness; and thanks for your interest!
//I'd hate to say it, but; 2 movies down, 12 sequels and a TV show to go
I mean, you're not wrong! xD Though I must admit don't really intend on trying to catch up on everything in the series since, like you say, there's a lot... and my primary focus, LBT-wise, is still the original movie. I'm just, sorta, planning to casually pick up the others if they cross my path, rather than going out of my way to find them, and adapting my portrayal of Cera as needed ^^
Thoughts of a Cera rper on watching The Land Before Time II: The Great Valley Adventure for the first time. Mostly under the cut, because this got long!
Firstly: It was so cute, what the heck! I know the first movie was adorable (especially the baby dinosaur cuddle pile scene), but I quite honestly didn’t expect that to have carried across into the sequels. Clearly, I was very wrong!
I’ll admit, I at first half thought it was going to turn out to be ‘Land Before Time IN SPACE’ with the opening title shots! Not sure quite what the purpose of those were, since not even the meteors shown shooting towards Earth had any role in the story.
I did... not much care for Ozzy and Strut. They felt misplaced, like they’d fallen out of another franchise by mistake; their voices just didn’t sound to me like they at all belonged in the world of the Land Before Time. The very human-like animation of their forelegs compared to the (mostly) more animalistic movement of the other characters didn’t help.
But the interactions between the kids were ADORABLE. It was so nice to see them just... getting to be kids and play and enjoy life after all the trauma the first movie put them through, and I loved it.
Though THAT SAID, it seems like the moviemakers either accidentally or deliberately forgot to take the events of the first movie very far into account. The Mysterious Beyond surely shouldn’t be that mysterious if they all travelled through it to reach the Valley in the first place? And surely their parents would know they can take care of themselves to an extent, since they had to reach it all on their own?
Then again, maybe that’s why the parents are so protective of them, given how very nearly they died - SEVERAL TIMES! - in the first movie... if I had kids, I’d be protective of them, too, if they’d had to make a perilous journey by themselves and only barely survived it.
The opening song nicely acknowledges the journey of the first movie though, even if the rest of the movie doesn’t. Not directly, but it’s what the lyrics are clearly pointing at, as a nice little nod back.
Said song was ALSO adorable, and I love that it was not only also featured in the credits at the end, but got a whole new sequence animated for the credits, too!
The animation was a LOT cleaner than the original movie’s. On the one hand, that certainly allowed the characters to be more clearly expressive; but on the other, the rough style of the original also had its appeal to me. I guess it suits the context, though; this one was very much a Lighter and Softer movie, so it gets a softer and tidier animation style... and in truth, I like both styles in different ways!
Speaking of animation: colour me impressed at the lava animation later in the movie. Even if it possibly still flowed more like water than actual lava, it’s still no small feat to get such an authentic flow in animation!
CERA’S CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT! My little three-horn girl is actually growing up... and it gives me SO much more insight into how to write for her. It’s definitely inspired me in how to take her in a different direction in the future than just hard-headed butt forever!
Which, I mean, she still is to an extent of course... this is Cera, come on! But she’s also just a bit more responsible, a bit more thinking about the consequences of her actions (sometimes), and a bit more open with how she feels. It was fascinating to see how that manifests for her, and I have several thoughts on how to keep applying that to her character when I write her.
Honestly, even if nothing else, it was worth watching just for the additional insight into her character!
On that note: The DVD box lied. It claimed that Cera was the one to coax the group into the Mysterious Beyond, which is just untrue; sure, she coaxes them into trouble within the Valley. And sure, too, it’s on her suggestion that they chase the egg thieves by themselves. But as soon as it looks like the thieves are leaving the Valley, she’s the one who eats her words and suggests maybe they should tell the adults after all - it’s Littlefoot who presses them into continuing. Which tells me that, even if he’s slow to accept it at first, once Littlefoot gets an idea in his head, he sticks to it and doesn’t let go. While Cera, surprisingly, is more likely to rethink her own course of action when it seems to be seriously leading into trouble.
I LOVED the reuse of James Horner’s original Land Before Time score in several places. I know that sometimes reused score is just a sign of cheapness or a rushed production; but that music is one of my favourite scores, and when it first reoccurred in the introduction, it worked so well that I just couldn’t be mad at hearing it reused!
I like that they remembered the characters’ physical mannerisms from the previous movie... it shows nice attention to detail. For a more obvious example, Spike sticking his head in the ground when he’s scared - he only did it a couple of times in the first movie, and it would have been easy to overlook, so the fact that he does it again here is a nice touch. Same with Petrie clinging to Littlefoot’s neck when he gets scared... and I’m sure I noticed other instances too, but those were the ones I remember most.
I had a complete out-of-movie disorientation at one point. When Littlefoot mentioned how the egg getting smushed was “all part of the great circle of life” it took me a moment to realise why that line felt so out of place - and then I realised, it’s because the Circle of Life was popularized by The Lion King, not The Land Before Time! Thinking back on it as I write this up, I remembered (and checked to make sure) that Rooter did mention the great circle of life in the first movie, many years before The Lion King; but it was just a passing comment, not something elaborated on in any depth... and the concept is so engrained with TLK by this point that it’s hard to not see a mention of it as a reference!
I also couldn’t help but think that the rock where Ozzy and Strut corner the kids, before getting scared away by Chomper’s shadow, looked an awful lot like Pride Rock...
Would baby dinosaurs have actually hatched with visible teeth, even small ones? I’m only used to humans, where teeth only grow in some time later, so I’m having trouble accepting the fact that newly-hatched Chomper displayed visible teeth the moment he opened his mouth. But that could be on me, rather than on the movie; I genuinely don’t know if that would be the case for dinosaurs or not.
I was likewise surprised that Chomper could walk right after hatching - or at least, with only the barest instruction from Littlefoot - but then, that was the case with many of the babies in the first movie too (and Cera was running around even before she hatched!), so regardless of whether it’s biologically accurate - which it might be; again, I don’t know, my only frame of reference is humans! - it’s at least consistent.
The kids’ song to Chomper was ALSO SO CUTE. I thought hearing the characters sing was going to be completely cringeworthy since they didn’t in the first movie, but it actually turned out to be the cutest thing and I love it?
It took me a few moments, but I realised the significance of the scene where the Sharptooth is fighting Littlefoot’s grandpa, and Littlefoot is determined to run and help because his grandpa needed him. I mean, of course, you think what can he even do to affect the fight between such giant dinos? But then it hit me: out of all the kids, he’s the only one who’s seen a parent get killed in front of him. It’s no wonder he doesn’t accept the others’ insistence that Grandpa can handle the Sharptooth because he’s a grown-up - because he, more than any of them, knows that being a grown-up doesn’t automatically mean they can handle anything. it’s no stretch at all to imagine he was having flashbacks to his mother’s final fight, and the chance that he could do anything at all to tip the scales in his grandpa’s favour...
Cera can be such a hypocrite sometimes, oh my goodness! “I’m not going to stay here, I’m going to help whether the grown-ups like it or not”... yet as soon as Littlefoot heads out to look for Chomper? “But Littlefoot, your grandpa said to stay here!” Sure, breaking rules is fine when she’s the one encouraging it; but Littlefoot taking the initiative to do so on his own? She can’t allow that! xD
Littlefoot can officially be counted amongst the characters who have no idea that demanding to be let go while being dangled over the edge of a cliff is a spectacularly bad idea. I mean, what else does he think their plan was? It’s just... something I have to shake my head over whenever it occurs in fiction.
I’m curious about those baby three-horns at the end? I’ve done my research on Cera’s family for writing her, and her wiki page gives no mention of her becoming a big sister until much later in the continuity, when her dad remarries. I already have a lot of unanswered questions about Cera’s family due to the disappearance of her mother and sisters in the previous movie, so these three just raise even more questions.
...and I thought they also highlighted just how much Cera has grown between the movies, since they’re absolutely TINY compared to her; in fact, they’re only a little bigger compared to her than Cera was compared to her parents immediately after she hatched. Although, after checking, Cera is still not much bigger in the sequel, at least as compared to her dad, than she was in the first movie... so those baby three-horns are tinier than tiny. I’m not sure what to make of this!
Okay, that got longer than intended! But tl;dr version: the movie was ADORABLE and I’m definitely gonna factor it into my portrayal of Cera in the future! ^^
I’m gonna start my blog over afresh. New blog, clean slate. I’ve just accumulated so much STUFF here, so many things that I’ve taken on and never been able to keep on top of, that I feel like any attempt to sort things out is doomed to end in failure. I know it probably seems like I only just did change blogs, but that was really just a shuffle around: this is a real fresh start.
I am going to carry at least a few of my threads across to the new blog; I’ll let you know as relevant once it’s up and running. What I’m not going to do, at least at first, is carry all my muses across.
Right now, I just have Far Too Many, and the more I’ve tried to balance them out evenly, the more none of them have got the time that they deserve. So, to start with, the new blog is going to be home to ONLY:
Vanellope
Webby
Connie
Angel
With the understanding that, as those four get settled in, I’m likely to carry across more characters, as and when I can devote the time to them.
Is this a perfect solution? Still no; but I think that, without a fresh start, I’m just not going to get anywhere at all here. I’ve tried every other strategy before, to no avail; my best option, now, has got to be to start over again and this time just be more disciplined about how much I take on.
Naturally, I’ll let you know once the new blog is up and running; and thank-you again, all, for sticking with me :D
Okay, just a heads-up, I know I’ve been... supremely inactive here lately, for various reasons lately - including, but not limited to, still trying to figure out what I’m doing on this blog; starting a job (finally!) that has my sleep schedule all messed up, making it tricky for me to figure out exactly where and when my muse will be active; and using my free time to finish a few other projects before Inktober begins this year instead.
Likewise, once we get into October proper, the majority of my creative drive will be going into said Inktober exercise, so I don’t guarantee I’ll have the time to figure things out over here until the following month.
So I think I’m essentially going to declare a full hiatus here until Inktober is over. I’m still here, still gonna check in; and if you want to send asks or memes to or about my muses, I’ll aim to answer them in a timely manner. But otherwise... I’m gonna take October / Inktober as an extension of my RP hiatus; and hopefully by the time I return focus to here at the beginning of November, I’ll have come up with a better strategy to manage everything ^^
Hi, this is an update that I just finished catching up on DuckTales and I’M SCREAMING IT WAS AMAZING I LOVE IT AND MY HEART AND AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!
What if, maybe... I limit myself to, like. Just two or three threads per character at any given time? That way I can hopefully give every character their chance in the spotlight, while still also putting a solid limit on the number of threads I can collect at a time. As threads get finished, it’ll open up new spots with the relevant muses, so things should be able to keep turning over at a better rate, and letting everyone who wants have a turn.
I’m half thinking about moving to a new blog while I’m at it, too, for a completely fresh start. But that might be more trouble than it’s worth...
So, on... a scale of one to ten? How mad would everyone be if I just *dropped* most of my threads on here and started over?
There are a few exceptions that I’d like to keep going with; but on the whole, I just have so many owed threads on here, and many of them are SO VERY OLD, that I just can’t find much enthusiasm here in general. I’ve been terrible at keeping up with my owed threads as-is; and add to that, the fact that I’m deliberately pulling back from roleplay time so that I can focus more on my own story projects, and...
I just can’t continue with this blog the way I have been in the past. I need a fresh start, one where maybe I limit the number of threads I have going at any one time to a manageable amount. That way, I can focus on just a handful of threads at a time, keep them all flowing in a much more timely manner because they’re not competing for my attention with like 30 others, and turn them over more quickly to then have space for starting new things again. I’m not gonna say I’ll get ‘super-fast’ or anything; but it should keep things rolling more easily, instead of this permanent traffic-jam of threads state that I’m currently always in.
I’m sorry to everyone who I’ll be letting down, if I did this. But I’ve just got in so far over my head with all my roleplay commitments that I can’t see a way to salvage it. The more I try and get everything done for everyone, the more nothing gets done because I’ve committed to far more threads than I can manage and it’s quite honestly overwhelming me.
Again, I’m really sorry. I hate to let any of you down; but I can’t keep pretending I’m going to catch up with everything, when we can all see it’s just beyond my ability to achieve anymore.
I’ll let you know what I decide to do; and I’d appreciate anyone who feels like weighing in with their own perspective or advice. But short of any better ideas, I feel like this is my only real way forward here.
I thank you, once again, for your understanding and your patience with me.
The rest are under the cut because... haha there’s a lot of them! I made these for most of my muses a while ago, when I was playing around with that character maker previously, so... this is my excuse to post most of them!
