"Ah, so uh⌠lemme see⌠uhâŚ" Damn, this wasnât turning out professionally - where was the freaking Lost and Found box? He put it right there, under the assorted collection of flash lights that heâd found in the closet (he was sure one of them must work? And maybe he could set up some kind of light show when he got really bored? He hadnât tested them yet or really thought it through properly but wait wait that was a plan for another day).
Feeling slightly foolish, he stood up abruptly and nodded, smiling awkwardly. âOne moment maâam, haha, jusâ gotta check the room here, the office behind me, real quick, so uh, sit tight for a second, please, hahaâŚâ
Stupid Arnold! What kind of police officer forgets where they put the damned lost property box?! He turned quickly into the office, and was so preoccupied with his own idiocy that he tripped right over said property box, which he had strategically placed away from where he had previously tripped over it. Fortunately he was truly the master of catching a trip, as instead of falling on his face, he landed on his hands and proceeded to do five push ups. He then stood up, grabbed the lost and found box, placed it on the counter, and without breaking a sweat, smiled and said, âOkay, here we go. Lemme see hereâŚâ
He looked through the small cardboard box with vigour, now trying to retain some dignity and actually look like a professional. There was little in the box, and there was no pendant to be found. Arnold felt his pride shrink a little. Now he just felt silly.
"Iâm âfraid there ainât a pendant to be found in here, maâam. Though Iâm sure I could give a good search for it, if youâd like? I ainât got much to do around here, and if you could gimme your details, like, uh, name, address, whatcha do, and a description of the item I could surely look out for it, and ask others to do the same. Maybe even make a poster for itâŚ" Maybe that was overcompensating, Arnold thought, but heâd already suggested it.
