“-shawn,” it was too late by the time his name had come out of her mouth, as he’d already taken the cup on her desk and taken a drink. it was nothing unusual in their relationship - it was rare for her to be able to have a plate of food in front of her without him helping himself to a bite at least once, and fairly, she wasn’t innocent in that department either. her arms folded in front of her as she leaned back in her seat with a quiet sigh. “do you know how many shots of espresso are in that drink?” if there was one person in this world that didn’t more caffeine, it was her husband. “i had to be up extra early for work so i decided to go with extra espresso thinly masked under sugar cookie syrup. might be mildly jitter inducing.”
hearing his name in a warning tone was almost as romantic as hearing it in a romantic tone - especially when it came from juliet. of course, he should have heeded that warning when he decided to down half her coffee with one sip. wincing as the caffeine and sugar sludged its way down his throat, shawn let out a dramatic gasp as he slammed the disposable cup down and turned accusingly to his beautiful wife. “about three hundred??!?” he exclaimed his eyes widened with the sudden surge of energy already hitting his bloodstream. it wasn’t often he drank coffee, preferring water or gatorade or something that didn’t have caffeine to fuel the sun - so when he did drink the stuff, it hit him almost instantly. “the sugar cookie syrup was a nice inclusion to the inevitable heart bursting out of my chest ala alien later, i’ll make sure to write it in my eulogy that i want you to perform while crying and vowing that you’ll marry gus in order to preserve my legacy. also my dad’s here, he’s found a house and he’s moved in, we should move.”

it was the voice of the gentleman that caught his attention – at least, the only one of the two he might consider a gentleman, if just for his authoritative tone. the context of the argument might have caught him as well – ah, but lestat hardly cared about what they argued – he knew better than anyone that an argument could be made for or against just about anything, and it only mattered how you held yourself, how you presented yourself. appearances were everything, especially among those who didn’t understand that which you were saying. lestat couldn’t help approaching the remaining man. “apologies? that’s hardly necessary.” he offered a charming smile in greeting. “ah, but you must know that filling an establishment with intrigue is hardly turning it into a mockery. feel no shame for that.” he held out his hand to shake. “lestat.”
something about the man who approached him intrigued alexander to his core. everything down to the style and great care of his shoes did not go unnoticed and he found himself appraising with a long glance. slowly his gaze settled upon the other’s beautiful face. with a raised brow, alexander offered a smile just as charming in return and bowed his head slightly in acceptance of a refusal of apology. “alexander.” he greeted, taking the other gentleman’s hand and giving it a firm shake before pulling back, “you’re a man of taste and an intrigue for meaningful conversation, i have to admin i’m quite saddened i’ve not met you before.” he started, happy to continue the meeting with him - and even happier that he’s found someone on equal intellect and personal care. “now i feel as if i should offer you a coffee or tea just to continue this conversation, if you’d indulge me, of course.”

COMFORT
vanessa took great care in being observant of other’s needs. ever since she was a young girl, she’d ensure that her best friend and sister by claim, mina, was always happy. nothing had really changed from that time and as she approached one of her coworkers - a csi - she could sense the feeling of needing someone to lend a kind word or a comforting hand. gently, she approached and brought her hand to the other’s arm and placed it firmly but softly there, peering into nora’s eyes and smiling with understanding and sympathy. “i won’t ask if you don’t wish me to, but i’m happy to listen.” she spoke quietly and gave her a nod. “or offer a hug or even tea, i’m quite a versatile pathologist.”

They’re seated on the patio of Vanessa’s house, enjoying the slight breeze that the day gifted them with. It’s a touch cool, but not enough to deter Selina from sitting outside, plus the hot cocoa she’s sipping on is doing a great job of keeping her warm. She hasn’t known Vanessa all too long, the two becoming acquainted because they live in the same area, but Selina would consider her a good friend. And if she’s reading the other correctly, Vanessa has the same thoughts and it’s only confirmed when she turns toward Selina with a serious look on her face. Selina allots her a couple moments to gather her thoughts before asking, “What’s going on?”
vanessa hadn’t made many friends in decimation quite yet, but those that she had - she held dearly to her heart. selina was certainly one of them, and she found her as beautiful on the inside as she did on the out. as they sat on her patio overlooking her garden in the back, vanessa relaxed into her seat and took a sip of her tea - holding the mug closely to her for warmth. “am i that easy to read?” she asked, teasingly - her gaze sliding over towards her friend, and though she held a smile on her lips, vanessa’s eyes were always the expressive windows to her true feelings. ”selina, dearest friend - i find that lately things seem to be... off about me. i can’t help but dream of the most fantastical things. ridiculous and silly things but they’re all so very real.” she paused, troubling her mind with some of the darker aspects of her sleeping moments. “it only just started once i’ve moved here.”

there was a jerk to her body as jolted awake, a panicked confusion that would have made her jump if not for the arms she felt anchoring her. her mind took several moments to sort through her nightmares and the reality she knew and to bring herself back to the present. “i don’t - i don’t know. none of it made sense.” how did she even start without sounding like she’d completely lost it? with a few deep breaths, caroline let her body sink further against him, finding a comfort there she’d never been able to explain but knew she was safe. “it sort of felt like just reading one page of every chapter of a book, bits and pieces. my skin… it was burning, and my friends were in trouble or hurt or -” she paused a moment, her stomach twisting at the thought. “and we were fighting and then you were gone and i.. i think i hurt people. in the end i was just - alone. god it sounds so crazy but it just felt so real.” there were things she didn’t say, things she was too afraid to say. her hands smoothed over her face, as if she could push away the lingering memories, to no avail. “i’m sorry. it’s just an overactive imagination and probably too much ice cream and wine before bed, i wouldn’t worry too much about it.”
he was no stranger to nightmares or terrors that kept him awake. a part of him felt vastly empty and alone, something buried beneath the surface that was wiped clean by an unknown force. he knew he had all the components of his life that ever wanted, but the disturbance of what he felt was a sense of lost identity really disturbed him. still, thinking about himself while he held his bride to be was selfish and his attention turned to firmly stay upon her. placing kisses along caroline’s hairline, klaus paused as she went only into the barest of details - an attempt to work his mind around it and to sort through it - as he allowed her his silence to continue. ”i can assure you that i am here and i am very real and you’re not alone.” he whispered, placing a determined kiss to her temple as she brought her hands up to cover her face. “caroline,” he spoke her name as he spoke it thousands of times before; with love and confidence in everything that he knew she to be. “they were vivid nightmares - you’re safe, you’ve done no harm to anyone, your friends are here, i am here, you’re going to be alright. i promise. and i promise that i’ll never leave you.” when she offered a quick dismissal to her dreams, klaus sighed lightly and reached to bring her hands down from her face to turn her head to face him. “doesn’t matter what started them, you had them - and that’s alright. any nightmares that may come, we’ll face them. together.”

It was with a heavy sense of foreboding that she took her seat, feeling instantly at his boisterously friendly personality that she had made a grave mistake. She briefly entertained the fantasy of getting right back up and walking away before gritting her teeth and resigning herself to a meal with this man. Maybe he would grow bored with her and hopes of friendship would be taken off the table. “I admittedly come for the cheap prices. Food is food, it matters little to me what I eat.” Eating healthier foods should probably be a priority, but Cassandra focused on other aspects of her physical health.
thor’s smile grew wider as he recognized that his new seatmate was one of his absolutely favorite types of personalities. he loved folks who had an annoyance with him, seeing as he took it as a challenge to befriend them - all in good jest, of course. “mm, yes cheap is good - not necessarily healthy, but it’s enough sustenance to keep you going for what you need it to.” he agreed as he pulled a piece of lettuce from his meal, grinning at her as he held it up. “and look! they even included a vegetable, very generous of them.” he joked, putting the lettuce leaf into his mouth and eating it. “i am thor, very nice to meet you - and uh,” he leaned foward just a bit in a conspirator sense, “the ramen house that’s here? miles better and cheaper too - try the black garlic oil tonkatsu. delicious.”

Lee was not one to believe in psychics, especially considering his career. If they existed then why did horrible things still happen on the daily basis? Though when he came across Shawn, Lee couldn’t determine if he was really a psychic or if he just processed a great skill at hypothesis. A few times their department worked with his and Lee would consider Shawn a bit eccentric but good at his job. What bothered the Sergeant was how the other had his own office, at his own station and yet managed to always be in Lee’s. Opening the door he isn’t even bothered when Shawn pops up from behind his desk, yelling ‘SURPRISE’. After the third time Lee has become somewhat used to it. He barely looks up from the cup of coffee he’s sipping on, setting his briefcase on his desk. “I think it’s time you come up with something else.”
“OR,“ shawn countered as he got back down to his hands and knees and crawled out from behind the desk, making a dramatic flair of getting up as he slowly pulled himself to a stand with lots of groaning and embellishments. “you act surprised one day when i do it.“ one day, shawn predicted that he’d give in and let him have a win - not today, but someday. “also jules wasn’t in nor was jim, and flores has finally figured out how i keep getting into his office, so you know, naturally your office is where i would be.” he added as an after thought before edging around hyuk and looking out the door, suspicious of anyone walking by before slipping back into the office and smiling at the sergeant. “you wouldn't happen to have seen a very bald old man walking around in a fashionably criminal hawaiian shirt, have you? asking for my wife, of course.”

bones was the chef of the two, and jim didn’t sneak out of bed early that morning to put that to the test. instead he started a cinnamon breakfast cake and tried to be as quiet as the pots, pans, and whisk would allow. he quickly dipped his pinky in the batter one last time and nodded with satisfaction at the taste. he’d only just closed the oven door on it when he heard bones walk into the kitchen behind him. jim turned and greeted him with a smile. “good morning.” he wiped his hands on his apron and pulled it back over his head. he himself still looked like he just rolled out of bed; he hadn’t bothered to do any morning grooming before getting breakfast started. “you’re up earlier than i expected. coffee?”
bones enjoyed the early mornings - usually he had them to himself as he liked to get to the hospital just before the main amount of traffic came piling in. so as he went through his usual routine - though finding it odd that jim wasn’t in bed, he started to head downstairs and into the kitchen when his nose was hint with the heavy scent of baked cinnamon. suddenly he felt far more hungry than he was a few minutes ago. as the oven door was closed, bones found himself standing in the kitchen with his arms crossed and taking in the sights of jim being sentient before ten and being appreciative of it. “morning jim,” he greeted warmly, smirking at jim’s disheveled appearance before closing the distance between them to give him a kiss. “i’m always up around this time, the only one up earlier than expected is you.” he remarked before giving a nod to the coffee. “smells good in here, cinnamon cake?” he guessed, trying to take peak into the oven. “wait - this isn’t an anniversary or birthday or anything is it?”

it was entertaining to jiyeong how many people she would see enter the animal shelter and say they weren’t looking for a pet. though she understood it by all means; it’s taken jiyeong many pep talks to not take home any of the cute furbabies herself. currently only stopping herself because she gets to see their faces everyday she works. still she nodded along with the patron. it was best not seem like she was forcing it. “we appreciate the donation, it helps a lot!” she smiled looking around for a basket to get him. while retrieving the basket she heard him continue on, making sure to give physical cues that she’s still paying attention. “uh, well… i don't want to lie and just say it will all work out.” she started off, finally finding a free basket and picking it up. holding it out to him for the donation supplies. “it depends on the cats temperaments. some can get used to a new housemate after some time. and of course with proper introduction and training.” she paused only for a brief moment before she continued, “the animal shelter would be more than happy to help with training if you’re interested?”
at her words, quill lit up with a grateful smile as he passed the donation bag of goods along to her. sometimes he went overboard and would buy so much stuff that rocket wouldn’t possibly ever be able to get any good use out of. “trust me, i know me enough to know that i will be back with more stuff because i am an impulse shopper. it’s my sin, i get it, i’ve accepted it. that’s totally on me.” he half-joked as rocky started to squirm in his arms. “hey buddy, i get it - but if i let you down you’re gonna wonder off and come back with like a trail of cats and we can’t do that, man.” he spoke softly to his son before putting his attention back to the worker. “rocket is... special. i mean, he’s a great cat and a best friend, but he also likes to try to kill me? i don’t know how to describe it without leaning into the trope that cats are assholes who you love but... he’s an asshole who i love.” he paused and turned to rocky. “i owe you two quarters, sorry little dude.” smiling he looked to jiyeong once more. “what would training entail?”

Taking the drink sat in front of her, drinking a bit of it before setting t back down. Hope would never want to disrupt his wedding. Her father’s happiness was her happiness. Even though Hope did like to drop the P on the weekends, there probably wouldn’t even be anything remotely interesting to do. It wasn’t some frat party, it was to support her father finally tying the knot with Caroline.

Laughing, Hope leaned forward just a bit, giving her father a reassuring smile after the fact.
“hm,“ he responded a smile on his lips as he glanced down and towards his drink. “if it makes you feel better hope, i do believe you.“ but as with all thinks, klaus certainly understood that it wasn’t without a catch of some sort. after all, she wouldn’t be his daughter if she hadn’t been working on a loophole to her words. “and there it is.” he looked back towards her, a glint in his eye - dangerous but paternal as he brought his own drink to his lips and taking a sip. “you know as well as i that there will be, our family is many things, but we understand the nature of needing imbibement during a formal ceremony.” he paused as he heard movement upstairs before sitting forward and placing his own drink down, his voice lowered into a hushed whisper, a playful smile on his own lips. “so long as you’re responsible i’ll turn the other cheek, but i can’t say so much for caroline - she does adore you greatly, but i think your biggest villain of that day will be your uncle. he’ll be watching you like a hawk.”

it was a strange and entirely foreign concept for natasha to allow anyone to see her in a state that would be described as vulnerable. she was never comfortable with expressing emotion and felt ridiculous when the overwhelming amount of case work began to pile up on her - she finally broke. it wasn’t until she felt someone press a warm mug of tea into her hands that she started to become a more sentient version of herself again. offering a half-hearted smile, natasha looked over towards the other woman and gave her an appreciative nod. “you didn’t have to, but thank you.” she started, bringing the tea to her lips and blowing the steam away gently. “i’m sorry you had to see me like this. i don’t normally crack under pressure, everything must have gotten away from me.”

“think you’re going to need at least two beers and five gummy worms to fix that, y’know.” faith corrected with a hint of amusement in her voice. she steadied the punching bag she’d previously been working on before stepping away and beginning to unwrap her hands. “nurse in the bedroom? tell me they at least spiced it up for you or were they just looking for every teenage boys wet dream?” admittedly, faith wasn’t one to shy away from such topics. if anything, she thrived on it, or the reactions people gave from them. in a sense, perhaps that was why she got on so well with meg - they weren’t off put by faith’s usual and often crude commentary. “not working, just burning off some energy but if you really want to watch that, give me a few beers and i’m sure i could think of a good time.”
meg was pretty easy going, mostly because they were self-professed lazy - but also not easily offended. anyone could say or do just about anything and she wouldn’t care. apathetic might have been the better word to describe her. “well shit,” meg stated, looking around them as they gave an enthusiastic nod towards faith’s revision. “you’re right. two beers and exactly five gummy worms to cure everything. except i like excess and sin, so hey might as well eat more than the suggested.” she smirked, watching faith as she moved about before giving a shrug. “i wish, but you know wonder bread? right? yeah about as bland but at least bread is tasty.” they snorted, shoving a gummy worm in their mouth before toeing the rest of the beer with her boot and sliding the pack over towards her friend. “better and funner ways to burn energy you know - but i get it. still, you’ve peaked my curiosity, so all beer on me.”

chani had only been in decimation for a short time, only really knowing one other person upon arriving. she preferred to keep to herself most days, especially after work. it was rather late in the evening and she had been allowed to leave a bit earlier than usual. deciding she was hungry, she found herself at the restaurant wanting a burger and a shake more than anything. as she stepped through the door, she felt a hand grasp down on her shoulder, making her jump and whirl around in that direction. her eyes widened, and her hands immediately went up in defense as soon as she realized it was someone she didn’t know. “ whoa ― ” she gasped. “ what’s the problem? ”
louis was in the rare occasion to head out and into the town. it wasn’t often for him to attend a public place other than the museum, and even rarer for him to go to a restaurant, preferring to eat homecooked meals instead. he was intending to reach his favored booth - the corner booth in the back, partially obscured from the entrance when someone had stepped in front of him. gently, without thinking, he placed a hand upon her shoulder and immediately drew it back - pausing when she grew defensive but not taking offense to her gesture. “i did not mean to offend or harm, my apologies.“ he stated, giving her a head incline before setting his gaze off towards the back. “i was merely intending to head towards a booth and did not want to push you out of the way.” he explained, looking back towards her with a curious gaze. “are you alright?”

Yet another case of senseless violence is what lead Lee to the hospital. He hated having to bother someone while they were out of commission, laid in a hospital bed; but it was a part of his job and the information is better right after an incident. After his couple of questions, Lee stuffs his notepad into his pocket as he walks out of the room, heading back toward the elevators. He’s half-way down the hall when he feels a hand on his shoulder causing him to turn and face the person. “Can I help you?”
“no.“ bones stated, as if that was the best explanation for anything. he wasn’t normally in this wing of the hospital, mostly kept to his office building where he attended the less severe cases and sent the patients up here to the surgeons. but he was on his way to check someone out, a long-time patient of his own, when he spotted a detective that he recognized. pulling his hand back from the other’s shoulder he gave a brief smile. “i meant that you almost stepped in a puddle of something - looks like someone forgot to put down a sign and well, given its a hospital - we don’t really know what we’re gonna step in.” he paused and turned to look at the room that the other was leaving. “client of yours?” he asked.

jon hated going to hospitals or doctors or anything to do with medical - and avoided it if he could help it. but at the insistence of olenna, margaery’s grandmother - he finally caved and found his way into an appointment with the physical therapist in town. when the doctor came in, he offered a quick and nervous smile before deciding to go ahead and get everything out and done. “i don’t like doctors, just thought you should know that - um, but one of my cows, she laid down onto my wrist and i think she did something to it. it was swollen for a bit but that’s gone down and i thought i’d be fine.” he held the wrist up, clearly still needing attention. “it hurts but it doesn’t seem broken - i can put weight on it. just think maybe she bruised it badly, you know?”

people never really bothered frank as a whole. people existed, they did their things, went on with life, let him do his thing and that was that. but sometimes individuals of those people stood out to him and he found himself opening the cabin to the cemetery to one of those individual people. “music man,” frank stated, a small smirk on his lips as he looked down at the other, his brows raising in a bit of surprise. “you need something or just passing through the weirdest and darkest cut through ever?” he joked, glancing behind jaskier to see if anyone else was trespassing the grounds. normally, people didn’t come see him - mostly they tried to avoid him - so it was always a surprise when someone knocked on his door.
