OP actually brings up a good point. I don't know much about forks or kitchens, but I recently learned that forks can regularly be found in kitchens. In fact, forks are almost always produced so they can find use in kitchens as a means of moving food from ones plate to ones mouth. This makes a lot of sense when you think about how most people eat somewhere close to their kitchen, so storing forks in the kitchen, situated for greatest ease of use, is actually the ideal place for them. So if you ever need a fork, you can generally find one in the kitchen.
