everyone thinks they know a thing or two about vulnerability. waylon can cop to believing the same, but the truth is you don’t know much at all until every basic creature comfort has been stripped from you, torn outright from a white knuckled grip.       he’s naked, shaking, and very literally backed into a corner. he has little hope, and nothing to fasten a false sense of security onto. dying on the job feels like a fear turned inevitability.

        waylon would be hard pressed to remember the last time he’s laughed without making a thoughtful effort to do so. nothing recently has moved him quite so much that a noise like that would ever feel uncontainable, full bodied.  he forces a smile in the place of something warmer and moves on. it’s both the least and most he can do.
