...Perhaps he is. We're all selfish in the end.

But Once-ler isn't just selfish. He's kind and loving. He's a total dork and he's talented. Sure, he's not perfect, and our relationship isn't perfect, but I love him regardless. I'll always stay by his side. Always.

"Oh, same old stuff - gym, dance, student instructor. It's all going pretty well."

”Yep, especially since I’m actually getting really hungry now that I’ve smelt dinner.” he smirked as he ate one.

"Great! Well, you're free to dig in right now, if you want. Meg should be down soon."

”Oh heck yeah.” he chuckled, taking one from the basket, ”Did you make these too?”

"Nope, I cheated on those," Matt says and then chuckles. "Plain breadsticks you can get from the supermarket." He takes one and bites into it. "Still good though."

”Ah, and by thrilled, you mean pissed off, right?” he sighed, ”I wish I could get on his good side somehow.”

"I'm sure he'll take a liking to you in time. Adam's just not a very open person."

Matt retrieves a basket and places it on the table in the kitchen. "Want some breadsticks while we wait on Meg?"

Once-ler slowed his steps just a bit when he realized that Adam was on the living room sofa, and then frowned softly when he paid almost no attention to him. He sighed, then continued to follow Matt, ”Uh, how’s Adam doing?”

"Oh, Adam's doing fine. He's out of the house most of the time, either working or with his band." Matt glances toward the living room. "He's...thrilled that you're spending the holiday with us, to put it lightly."

Matt makes his way downstairs and to the kitchen with Once-ler. As they had reached the bottom of the stairs, Adam was seen sitting on the sofa. He had merely glanced at ONce-ler before bringing his attention back the the television.

”Well it smells good, so just smelling it is making me hungry.” he chuckled as he walked out of the bedroom, ”But should we wait for Meg to come out first?”

Matt looks down the hall where the bathroom is at, seeing light pool under the door. "I'm not sure how long she'll be, but if you want to wait then that's okay."

He nodded and got up from the bed, straightening out his trousers, ”Yeah, it smells really good, did you make it?”

"Yep! It's nothing big, just a simple beef stew. Hope you're hungry!"

”I know I shouldn’t, I just feel like it’s all my fault and it’s tearing me down.” he admitted to him as he frowned, ”She never told me about it over the phone or Skype so it’s just a surprise I guess.”

He was about to say something else, but then was a bit taken back when Matt took off his own hair, revealing that it was a wig. He stared a bit for a moment, then softly smiled, ”You’re an amazing brother to Meghan, you know that?”

Matt blushes. "Heh, maybe. Can't be the better looking twinsie under such circumstances." He puts his wig back on and straightens it out. "Ready to come down for dinner? Meghan will be down when she's ready."

”I won’t. Promise.” he nodded, ”Thank you for telling me.” he gave him a small crooked smile that was mostly forced.

Matt notices this and gently grasp Once-ler's shoulder to give it a comforting squeeze. "Hey, c'mon. Don't take it like that. It's not all a bad thing. I mean, when Meghan doesn't need the treatment anymore, her hair will grow back. It's not a permanent thing. She knows that. She's just...taking this pretty hard, y'know? Besides, I couldn't let her feel like she's the lesser twin now."

Matt grasps his own hair and pulls it off, revealing a bald scalp underneath. "It itches and my head gets cold, but I can live with it for the time being."

”Hm, that’s what I was afraid of.” he sighed again, then nodded, ”Alright, thanks for letting me know.”

"Just don't pressure her to show you, okay? Please." Matt sighs and scratches his brow. "She's not even comfortable enough to walk around us without the wig on, so don't think you're the problem."

He sighed, ”I-I know I know, it’s just hard… I didn’t know she was losing her hair…” he frowned, ”U-uh, is it, like, all gone or?”

Matt nods his head. "Yeah, all of it, everywhere. That's the effect of the treatment."

He sighed and ran a hand through his hair, ”No, she wouldn’t let me. Almost though…”

"Well, I mean, this hasn't been easy on her," Matt quietly tells Once-ler. "The treatment she's currently getting makes her feel ill - she's fatigue all the time. Eating's become a chore for her, since a lot of foods don't settle well in her stomach. And now...her hair..." Matt huffs a sigh. "It's been a hard struggle for Meg, y'know? I don't like seeing her like this either - none of us do. I want my sister back just as much as you want your fiancee back. We're all doing our best to support and comfort her through this."

Once-ler began to stir in bed with a yawn, stretching out to get his tired body more awake. He looked around only to find Matt, no Meghan, ”Hmm, where’s Meg?” he asked, sitting up.

"Probably taking a bath," he says with a shrug of his shoulders. "Is, uh, everything okay? I...kinda overheard what was going on a while ago. Did you, uh, see?"
