❝ Do you mind if I take a look ?? ❞ She’s feeling a swell of confidence today.
So lost she was on her contemplation of an ancient book that Alice failed to notice the little pair of dark eyes, watching over her every thought from across the otherwise empty hall. Gaze lifted from between yellow pages, traveling to meet her curious glance the teacher had always found so refreshing. Not everyone in this house shared Nan’s drive to learn more and outsmart herself —— a real pity for witches were a dying breed and knowledge remained the most powerful weapon against extinction.
“Are you sure you’re witch enough for this, honey?” Her question was nothing but a playful dare, one that Alice counteracted with a smile and a gentle nod of her head. “Sit with me. Let’s teach you some real magic.”
butscrewmefirst:
truth be told, scathach can FEEL when the woman sets foot on her land, is immediately tailing her and watching in absolute silence. and she’s good at it, at being undetected, but the witch of the woods also knows that the individual walking about her forest is no one to fear. they’re allies, or were long ago, but she knows the unspoken trust between them remains as she continues to follow.
it’s only when the woman, alice, speaks aloud and directly to her that the supreme emerges from the shadows. it appears as if the other remembers that scathach’s favorite time to come out and play is at night, and she’ll smile as her frame fully comes into view of the other. even with the dreadful news of witch hunters finding them, she’ll grin. ❛ old friends tend to announce themselves ahead of time. ❜ she’ll come to a halt only a few feet from alice.
❛ and old friends do not come bearing such… DREADFUL news. — how hast thou come to learn of it? ❜ she’ll inquire with a slight tilt of her head, wild locks falling about before and behind her shoulders as they please.
A sigh of relief puffed from somewhere deep within the brunette's chest, her glance moving around as she sought out the source of Scathach’s long forgotten voice. She was a sight for sore eyes, the Roanoke witch —— their mentor Alice could always rely on to give her the right answer for almost any problem haunting their sisterhood. It wasn't much like herself, tossing all manners out the window and forgetting how to properly greet her host, but there would be time for small talk. Long fingers slipped inside her black purse, closing around a piece of cloth they had used to keep IT tucked away and safe. Taking a step closer to Scathach, she took a hold of the witch's hand then turned it around to drop the little package right on her palm.
"One of our witches, she found this at our doorstep." Silver bullets were practically harmless without a gun to fire them, but this one —— this one burnt for it had been previously soaked in holy water. The brunette felt close to filthy, just by carrying it around inside her pocket. "Feel it for yourself. As real as you and I and this forest.”

She reminded Alice of herself, many ( many ) years ago when witches were given no other choice but to migrate as far away from Salem as possible, cloaked in black robes and fearing death by fire. New Orleans didn’t quite feel like home for them either, no matter how hard they wished it would —— but a safe haven for their coven to thrive had proven to be well worth the sacrifice. Misty’s white soul screamed nostalgia, she was trapped and she knew as much; anything to keep yet another sister from meeting her end at the hands of witch hunters and their silver bullets, blessed for one purpose and one purpose alone.
“It wasn’t always like this, you know?” As she spoke, Alice’s hand slipped inside the black pocket of her coat to retrieve a cigarette, which she placed between her lips and left untouched for the swamp witch to practice her pyrokinesis. “Artists didn’t use to be what you and I would call respected folk. We should appreciate their work —— and refrain ourselves from cracking jokes while we do it.” A little side smile, that reached all the way up to her eyes, curved the left corner of the teacher’s mouth as she waited.
“Got a light?”

“ it’s a little bit of a shock the first time, isn’t it?” (from zoeeee)
darkly dreaming dexter starters || accepting!
“Fiona won’t have this, I hope you know that.” A bit of a shock —— quite possibly the understatement of the century. Wide eyes stared in disbelief at her girl’s doing, all brain cells within the witch’s head working tirelessly to figure out a way of covering up for Zoe’s little indiscretion and not getting fired in the process. All that blood, dripping from the rapist boy’s ears, nose and mouth and soaking the hospital pillow beneath his head; as teacher, it would be her head to roll for allowing young witches to wander around unsupervised.
“Please tell me at least you cleaned up after yourself.”

“there are plenty of people who deserve it.” ( xlcstsouls' marie )

“We are less than Gods, Marie. It’s not our place to decide who deserves it and who doesn’t.” Although they were undeniably powerful and ( some would say ) close to divine, passing judgement on people based purely on their actions remained beyond witches’ rights in this world; a world they had no other choice but to share with faulty humans and their poor judgement. Sipping from her glass, a friendly drink they had both agreed on sharing for old times’ sake, Alice diverted her gaze away from the Voodoo Queen and towards the cage in a corner; LaLaurie’s earthly prison.
“We’ve all had our share of mistakes. Look at us, going after each other’s throats like rabid dogs in a fight. Can’t say I’m proud of being an active part of this, but we both must.”

“ it is NOT mollycoddling –
it’s catering to the girl’s infantile abilities in a safe and EASILY tamed manner.
most of them can do little more than lift a PEN a few inches. i won’t have them tossing the furniture about – “
“How else do you suppose they'll learn? Don’t you forget, child, I’ve been doing this since before your great-great-great grandparents were even conceived.” Shaming her in front of their students wasn't the right way to go —— but she cared about them, too much to witness their education being compromised and keep her mouth shut about it. As she crossed her legs, Alice leaned back into the couch that was her seat of choice to enjoy the little show off, and examined the young teacher with an unforgiving look in her eyes.
"Voodoos won't wait until you've deemed our girls ready. They will come here and crush them like bugs; IF you refuse to take chances."

On her way to the serving cart across the room, black heels echoing through the ancient walls of Miss Robichaux’s Academy, Alice maintained direct and fierce eye contact with her. Myrtle Snow —— the witch bitch currently occupying the seat that should have belonged to her. after centuries on end of loyal service to their coven. Once her proud mentor, the brunette had long started to resent being outranked by an eccentric, Supreme wannabe with a dubious sense of style and nothing but despise towards Fiona. It was class and respect for her peers, however, the only two things keeping her from speaking out her mind.
“Is that any way to address your teacher?” Bending over the expensive collection of liquor and other drinks, far more appropriate for the young girls placed under their care, Alice picked two glasses and a bottle of fine whiskey; which contents she split in equal measure and handed to the head of the Witches’ Council. “Lighten up, honey, we’re just talking. Here. Wrap your pretty lips around this.”

“ how long have you been doing this?”
“ and this ‘something,’ it makes you kill things?”
“ have you ever wanted to kill something else?”
“ it’s going to make you want to kill, and you can’t help that.”
“ what are you?”
“ choose what… or WHO you kill.”
“ you gimme the fucking creeps.”
“ you don’t want to do this to me.”
“ put the knife down, ___.”
“ jesus christ that hurt!”
“ and then it hits me. it’s not me, it’s you. there’s something wrong about you.”
“ i should’ve listened to him/her. something’s wrong about you.”
“ that’s the kind of shit i used to fall for when i thought you liked me.”
“ you’re connected to this thing.”
“ maybe you didn’t do it, but i’m gonna find out. and some of what i find is gonna stick to you.”
“ ___, come on. for christ’s sake, cut the shit! it’s me!”
“ i should shoot you.”
“ for god’s sake let me out of this shit and quit acting like a fucking lunatic.”
“ goddamn it. come on, ___. snap out of it!”
“ ___ should see this. s/he was right about you.”
“ of course, neither one of us could manage that with real feeling. after all, we can’t actually feel anything, can we?”
“ we’ve both spent our lives playing a part. moving through this world reciting lines and pretending we belong in a world made for human beings, and never really human ourselves.”
“ have you done any reading on monsters like us?”
“ this happened, ___. the chain saw, the flying body parts, the … blood—”
“ we both suffered a classic traumatic event. it made me what i am—and i had a thought that it might do the same for you.”
“ you have to listen and do as i say. you have to. you should know that. it’s important.”
“ it’s a terrible mess, isn’t it?”
“ open them. open your eyes. open them NOW.”
“ look. or i will cut your eyelids right off your face.”
“ i am a very neat monster.”
“ oh, what a madcap little monster i’ve been.”
“ If i am ever careless enough to be caught, they will say i am a sociopathic monster, a sick and twisted demon who is not even human.”
“ yes, beg me. that’s good. much better.”
“ i understand perfectly. you see, i can’t help myself either.”
“ can’t? i don’t think i know that word.”
“ you are mine now. do exactly as i say.”
“ be good and you will live longer.”
“ oh, dear, are we being squeamish? after what happened?”
“ how did you know i would want to? you couldn’t really know.”
“ it’s a little bit of a shock the first time, isn’t it?”
“ killing makes me feel good.”
“ i enjoy my work; sorry if that bothers you. but there it is. and it’s not just ANY killing, of course. it has to be done the right way, at the right time, with the right partner—very complicated, but very necessary.”
“ i don’t want the cops to catch every serial killer out there. then what would i do for a hobby?”
“ there are plenty of people who deserve it.”
“ really? even after the new kill last night?”
“ imagine how it would’ve felt if i had killed you.”
“ i might have had to kill him/her.”
“ really, now: if you can’t get me my newspaper on time, how can you expect me to refrain from killing people?”
“ it looks very much like the killer might be me.”

The darkest night closed like a veil around her as she walked among trees and roots, her eyes completely blinded for stars didn't shine at the Roanoke woods. Alice had no use for them, one thing was absolutely certain: she needn't look for her anymore; one way or the other, Scathach would find her own way to the witch's side. Bare feet stepped on dry leaves and made them crack beneath her weight, the brunette's heart racing with every sound her heightened sense of hearing was able to register. Despite being sure no harm would come to her - for as long as she and her tribe remained under Scathach's good graces - knowing herself surrounded by ghouls and phantoms was more than enough to call goosebumps to her arms and neck.
"Is this how we welcome old friends, now?" Alice called out into the night, stopping dead in her tracks to try and feel her mentor's obscure presence approaching. "They're on to us. Again. Witch hunters, Scathach."
