Q: How will you spend your birthday this year?
A: I think I will spend it at home with my parents.
Q: In your mind, what were your worst and best birthdays?
A: Ah? I forgot the worst, but the happiest was the Shanghai concert, which left a very deep impression. They kept (the surprise) from me. I only found out on stage.
Q: Were you surprised?
A: Definitely, because I’m quite an emotional/sentimental person.
Q: When you were younger did your mom prepare for your birthday?
A: When I was younger she did. But later on it wasn’t a surprise anymore. When I celebrated my birthday I normally nagged at my mom. Maybe a month before my birthday I would start talking, always hinting: for my birthday I want to buy this, I want to eat this flavor of cake. I said it all myself, and then the second day I would surprise myself, yeah!
Q: Did you ever receive a nice surprise for your birthday?
A: When I was younger I didn’t understand, so I thought expensive things were nice surprises.
Q: You understood the concept of expensive as a child?
A: In middle school and high school I understood the idea of expensive things, but I never received anything expensive.
Q: Have you ever been pleased by giving someone else a gift?
A: I gave my parents birthday presents before. After getting my first paycheck I gave my mom a purse. She was pretty happy, but she never used it. My mom is pretty cool, but I guess I didn’t give her the right kind because later on I gave her another bag, and I realized she always chooses that other bag to carry.
Q: What were you scared of the most, as a kid?
A: I was the most scared of going home because as soon as I went out, I didn’t want to go home. Every time I went out to play, I would ask if I could stay at my friend’s house for the night. Children are all like this– they all want to go out and play, and they don’t want to go home. Once you go home you have to sleep. I slept at 9.
Q: Were you naughty as a kid?
A: I was. My parents both hit me, and they hit me together (at the same time). If my grandparents were home then they would play good cop, but if they weren’t home then the whole family would be bad cops. The harshest was when they hit me together.
Q: Did it help if you acted cute?
A: I never acted cute as a kid; I’m not the type to act cute.
Q: Would you admit to what you did?
A: After I got hit then I admitted it. I was stubborn so I never owned up before getting hit, but after getting hit I did.
Q: Why did your parents hit you?
A: It was because I was naughty. It was all my fault.
Q: Until when did they hit you?
A: Until I was pretty old. It’d happen every time I did something bad, naughty, overly playful, or if I didn’t listen.
Q: Did you ever rebel in your youth? Like fighting.
A: This time was pretty explosive. Because I’m an Aries, I have a short fuse. I didn’t even know why I exploded; during middle and high school, sometimes someone would say something and I would explode.
Q: Like when you were playing ball?
A: Then I was agitated everyday.
Q: Were you angry at the other team or at your own teammates?
A: If my own teammates didn’t play well, I got angry, but if the other team stole the ball from my teammates, I would also get angry.
Q: Did you perform singing at school?
A: Yeah, Lao Gao even performed with me. Like “Orange Soda”, and “If You Love Me Don’t Leave”.
Q: And after that you got popular? The legendary “most handsome student of Haidian”?
A: No, I was pretty popular before that too. At the time my school even sold the DVDs we recorded, and it was very cheap. Then a bunch of elementary and middle school kids would always come to our class asking for autographs. Really, you can ask them.
Q: Did it feel good?
A: It felt really good. I’m an Aries, and back then I was a stereotypical Aries; I really liked to show off. At the time I knew I was popular. We could walk by the high school to get food, but I would always choose to walk through the middle school, and after walking through, I would finally go eat. Every time I walked through the hallways, so many female students would say, “Wow Lu Han”, and I heard them all and continued walking. I was too immature when I was young.
Q: Back then was it annoying to have so many people watching you?
A: No, I was really happy.
Q: If, like Changsheng, you were told you only had one year left to live, what would you do?
A: I would have fun. I would just play soccer, get kebabs, sing, and play King of Glory. Glory glory, for the king.
Q: Will things from the drama appear in real life?
A: Yes, definitely; shouldn’t it be like this?
Q: Like finding Yourong to confess?
A: Then I have to find someone I like to confess to. There’s only a year left.
Q: If you only had a day left who would you spend it with?
A: A day? That’s too harsh; it’s not enough time. I would probably just spend it by myself.
Q: What about your parents?
A: If it was the last day then I’d rather not. There would already be a lot of suffering, and if I saw them wouldn’t it be even more (difficult to leave)?
Q: When your drama starts airing will you watch it?
A: I will watch it and my parents probably will also watch it. We’ll watch it together.
Q: If you watch it with your parents will it be awkward?
A: No.
Q: What if it’s a romantic scene?
A: That’s fine.
