Communities that have a certain level of strictness about modesty for women should have the same for men. If you're at the beach and only take issue with women in sleeveless garb but not men without shirts, that's a double standard

Some act like tznius is an obligation only for women, but it's supposed to apply equally to men too, and we should treat it like that

Why is it that people think kids being bored and not hyper stimulated all the time is such a bad thing?

Girl quiet time is 30min long. They're only doing nothing for 10 maybe 15min and then are given a toy which they all happily play with.

Yes they are 4 and most of them don't actually sleep but you know what they DO actually do??

Rest their body's.

They don't even fight it or complain because by the time they lay down almost all of them get comfortable and space out. I don't tell them to lay down just sit for a few minutes. If it was less active day then I'll give a book at the start because they won't be as tired but these kids ARE tired shown by them laying down and sitting out of activities just before this time. And you know whats still left ? MORE active activities!

Also why do we care that your kid is bored for 15 minutes again? Do you not let your kid reset themselves during the day? It's a midway point.

I've had kids lay down before their cots are even out and not want to get up because they started to wine down already.

Am I crazy for this?

But to me who's actually in the room they seem to really need that time. Even if it's just playing by themselves quietly with calming music playing. They've been socializing all day and by that point they're crazy until after quiet time.

How do you feel about Americans?

Americans have one of the highest obesity rates in the world, yet they hold the most Olympic medals. They have a horrible education system, yet eclipse the rest of the world in scientific research. The country is filled with clueless philistines, yet their culture permeates every society, in some way, across the planet. The country is still less than three centuries old, but has spent most of it at war. They are universally hated or feared by nearly every other country on the planet, yet the first to offer help during a disaster. Their people are stubborn and never content with the way things are, and for better or worse, all of them imagine how things could be better. Every American is a bankrupt billionaire, a prince in exile, a grounded astronaut, a disgraced scientist. There are the people who do not settle for who they are, but for what they may become.

The country has her problems. Certainly their government has a lot of blood on its hands. But there is something charming about the people I can’t quite place. Even the delusional leftists or the out of touch neocons. There is a certain magic about the place that you don’t find elsewhere. There are bad parts and bad people, to be sure, but there are just as many good parts and good people. It is a land of extremes. But even the poor aren’t really that poor. Much better to be a homeless American living on the beach than literally freezing to death at a metro station in Moscow.

Sure, Yanks say some stupid things. Sometimes they do stupid things like arm terrorist groups they later go to war with. But sometimes they also say profound things. Sometimes they do profound things like planting their flag, in person, on the moon. I can’t stay mad at them and I can’t help but love them.

I really do not care for this way of explaining our history which as I point out in my comment is incorrect.

I'm not saying you have to explain history in a way that is dry and boring.

There is just something about that feels so not childish, but I can't quite figure out the word. Flippant maybe. I don't know.

Being a member of our Tribe comes with a weight. It comes with responsibility. To each other. To what it means to be a part of the Tribe. To the history and to future generations.

1. I cannot believe that people are genuinely trying to decolonize how they refer to themselves by using A COLONIALIST TERM. judea/judean was coined by Roman colonizers, NOT us, we never called ourselves that.

Mamish what. I don't even know where to begin. I didn't even realize this was a thing. This reminds me of the post along the lines of "I've always wondered why it was called Israel and not something related to Jews if it's supposedly their homeland" like.....we are yisrael. Am Yisreal chai?? Like you said "beni yisrael" as in sons of yisrael. Why would we refer to ourselves as anything but??? What weird thing to try and change. One of the few Torah sha bel peh if you think about it, is who are as a tribe. Yeah, most of us don't know what shevet, but we do know that no matter what we are klal Yisreal. Ok lads, I'm finally making the mezuzzah for my new house as I'm moving in the next couple of weeks. If people are interested, I'm gonna blog the process

So I wasn't completely sure what wood to go for so I bought olive wood, tulip wood (the pink ones) and bocote (dark and stripy) which are pictured below.

Step 1 was to file off the hard edges so as to not damage and blunt my lathe blades. This gavee five pieces which were square at one end and octagonal at the other.

The square end was mounted on a 4 jaw chuck and then the other end was lathed into a cylinder as far down as I could.

This reveals the wood pattern which is hidden when the wood arrives.

That's where I've paused today as it's almost midnight.

The next step is to hold the round end in the lathe and turn the uncut end into a cylinder too. Then I will cut the one I choose down to size and drill a hole down the middle. I'll glue a metal tube down the centre and mount the entire thing on a pen mandrel before cutting the mezuzzah down to size - I'll lose over 50% of the material in this process so it might look quite different!

Once I decide my favourite, I'll carve a ש into the top using a Dremel and then put a cap on the bottom. I'll slip the scroll inside and then seal the top with another cap.

The entire thing will be finished with waterproof, external grade polyurethane varnish and once that is cured, I will mount this on my new home.

I'll post the next steps once they are done but for now, I'd love to know which wood you'd go with. Owing to it's biblical mentions, the olive would have been a no-brainer but it's just not the most interesting and figured piece of wood sadly and I want my mezuzzahs to be beautiful
