this is a callout post for @alienage-culture who has proven to be, well, incredibly bigoted towards anyone who’s not cisgendered & heterosexual. all links are screenshots from his blog, because he’s already deleted evidence of his bigotry once and i’m not going to take the chance of him doing it again. let’s start with point one: his rules, where they explicitly state nonbinary genders, as well as all asexual-spectrum identities, pansexuality, and anything other than gay, straight, and bi just don’t exist. ( LINK ) warning for transphobic slurs

A revelation. For a moment he’s back in Val Royeaux, feeling the terrible gauntleted hands of a templar closing around his throat. The hissed word, demon. The anguish on Rhys’s face. His own raw tears. The feeling of finally allowing himself to slip away, when he’d been afraid of fading for so long. The pain of truth. One of the first things he’d learned here in the world that was too real, too solid for spirits like him: sometimes finding yourself means losing something else.

“But - not always,” he amends. He’d been wrong, back then. He’d thought the lesson was that change always meant loss. He’d grown terrified of changing, fearful of making a wrong step and losing more friends. But he’s changed, and they’re still here. They tell him he’s allowed to grow. “Sometimes it’s good.”

Cole settles in beside Varric, relaxing a little at the faint smile on the dwarf’s face. It’s nice, to tug at a memory and find it a happy one. He reaches a little further at Varric’s words, coming up with a few scattered images of Dog, tinged with fondness. He wishes he could meet her, to see her specialness for himself.

He rocks back, watching Varric put away his things, a flash of surprise. He’d only asked if Varric could, giving voice to the image that had formed in his head; he hadn’t expected an immediate response. “Oh - really?” A tilt of his head shows a pleased look on his face, and then he pauses, and his smile widens. “Oh. You don’t think it’ll work, but you want to try anyway. To make me happy. Thank you.”

Her advisors are looking for her. Scouts too, probably -- but if Enya does not want to be found, it's unlikely that it will occur. She knows the function of shadows, of passing attention, of avoiding eyes. She only emerges to sit silently beside Cole, her fingers closing around a section of cloth from his sleeve. There are times when she can't be the Inquisitor.

He hardly even needs to feel the mood radiating from her - the need to be small, small enough not to exist, just for a while, unseen unheard unneeded - to understand what she needs, when Enya appears next to him. Sometimes she wishes she could be like him. She’s too important for anyone to forget her, but he can help in the quiet moments.

He doesn’t speak, just shifts slightly, leaning towards her so she falls under the shadow of his hat, a symbol of protection. She won’t be able to sense a change, but if she pays attention, she might notice that the eyes of anyone who passes slide right over them as if neither of them are there. He can’t keep it up forever, but it’s easy, comparatively, to make Enya unseen as he is; she’s already doing such a good job herself. While she’s next to him, the keenest eyes won’t notice her, the sharpest minds won’t remember her presence.

After a long moment, his spindly fingers close gently over hers.
