Mon opinion en direct du blog de FrenchCows :)
MOVING TO NEW GROUNDS...
Hi everybody,
2013 has been a tough year with difficult decisions to take. One of them involved the end of ThinkSlow since I quite litterally earnt no money with my projects. Even Strange Masks. So I am nearly done with the paperworks to officially close the doors.
But 2013 has also seen the grand opening of FrenchCows, a project that I am working on with a few friends. Together we want to bring a new way to discover and play to indie games. And with your help I am sure we will eventually succeed.
So since all ThinkSlow related stuff is becoming part of history, I am closing this blog and will continue to show what I do at www.francoisnicaise.fr.
Some projects I was involved with may come back to life, like Seed or Friend Forever or even Strange Masks but differently. No doubt I will tell you all about it later.
Anyway, thanks for your support. Thanks for sharing my news with others and allow me to show my stuff to the world. I had great times, learnt through failure and success a great deal of common truths ( yes, sometimes it is more difficult to learn easy to grasp things than complex intellectual theories ) and now I know that money was just the tip of the iceberg and I have to involve myself in much bigger things...
Thanks again and keep up the hard work to live a much richer life!
Hi all !
Now that Frenchcows has been officially launched, I will take some time to get my games back to life.
For those who have not yet taken time to go on Frenchcows, you should have a look. There you will find indie games sold in what we call a 'season', A season is a 6 months period during which creators are going to push there games further and even make new ones. It's a cross over between a bundle, a kickstarter and a game jam. Very indie. We already have 10 games. For adults. And since we are developers too we have decided to split all the revenues between creators. Very fair. Very equal.
So all my future games are, of course, going to be sold on FrenchCows. :) And... Now it's time to announce that I will release a new enhanced version of Strange Masks on Android mobiles and tablets through FrenchCows. Soon.Of course, those who have already bought the game directly from me will get a free copy. And if you want to get other great indie stuff, you can join us on FrenchCows, right away. I have planned to add a beta version on it soon.
I will, of course, keep you informed. But I am very happy about all these great projects I am working on. And I wanted to share this with you.
Hope everything's going well for you too :)
++ François
PS : Haxe community, yes... It's done in haxe and many games sold have been made in haxe

FrenchCows!
Hi everybody,
this is a little post to say that this summer I've been working on Strange Masks, and Seed...And on a very new Bundle Platform, French Cows.
Ok, just so you know, if you like games and enjoy bundles then you may like this. But it's not your common bundle. It offers much more than what currently exists. However I can't say more...At least not now...
Happily, there's a newsletter which you may subscribe to...
THERE
So my friends, if you enjoy our weird funny cow, please share, talk, link and propagate this mini piece of news :) Your positive karma will definitely increase ;)
And of course, subscribe to our newsletter :) and.... WE WON'T SPAM YOU!! ETHICS RULEZ :)
Hi everybody :)
I have been working on Thinkslow's web site and I have added some small icons to make things a little bit prettier.
I have also put all the released games on two lists ordered by release date and bci projects on another list in order to value these very fun projects a little bit more.. And maybe open the way for new ventures...
Of course you will have found by now that there's this Friends? Forever! entry which was added. With a working link... Well I let you see by yourself what it is all about. :)
Now I'm going to have some sleep. For my western friends: enjoy your evening. My eastern friends: your morning ;)
Hi all, this has been a good week for me.
I managed to make a working version of "Friends Forever" and I have been playing a hundred times with my nephew and a friend of mine these last two days. I am quite happy with the results. I think the game is fun. So next week if everything goes well, I will push a beta so you can try it by yourself (of course with a friend, because it is a two players game).
Now I am going to enjoy some rest and start my Week End. Bye!
Dear all, my friend Benjamin has taken time to create a music editor for the music language MML.
It's so pretty and actually works very well. So you can give it a try there : http://benjaminsoule.fr/tools/vmml/
And because he is such a friend, I asked him if he could make a score for me which he did!
So here is the score : #A= cde8e8f8e4.; #B= cdd+8d8c8d4.; #AB+=&e<*e>; %11 q6 l16 $[AA(-2)] A(3)B(3); %11 q6 l2 s40,48 r8$cdcd ced+d l4rd+grrgd<c>;
Just copy and paste this score and press play button. Have fun!
Thanks you and bravo Ben!
Hi everybody!
Ok, so like I said yesterday I'm back working on my games about friends which will be named : Friends Forever. And I have to say I am happy to work on this very personal project again and I am impatient to share it with you!
Have a nice day!
Sometimes it's difficult to just go on...
Yesterday I was having a discussion with my friend Laurent from Labe.me about how ideas come and how easy it is to start new projects and feel in "the zone" : you are dedicated 100% to the task at hand.
But then a new idea emerges and it calls you like a Siren and sometimes it just make the previous idea becoming suddenly far less interesting.
There's also 'that' project that was started with so much energy that it came to a brutal halt because you pushed it too much. Ideas need space and time and a lot of subconscious work. It can be so frustrating.
And there's also the problem I have these days : too many projects at the same time. The oldest ones being the least interesting...
So after much thinking and googling I found this web site where answers can be found. It is a kind of relief because words are put where I couldn't put them.
After all these years creating games I still fall in the same traps. Even todos and milestones and pomodoros aren't problem solver. They sure help me to go forward but they can't prevent me from having my creative flow disrupted and my motivation cooling down.
So this morning I decided to start with something simple : I just made a list of what is taking space in my mind. Because projects are stacking up and I just feel under pressure every time I start something new. Because I feel I ought to finish previous projects first. Until yesterday I felt I needed to complete things. Now I am aware I can also ditch things without mortifying myself because some projects are just there to help me in a way or another. They are not 'real' projects.
So since I am speaking about the projects I already told you about in my previous blog posts here is their current status :
Active : Seed, my ludum dare entry which I want to push further.
On Hold : Strange Masks Extended. I wanted to release an extended version of the game (v1.05) which would have also been released on tablets. But I got a little bit depressed by the very low sales of the v1.0.4 version although the game was praised by players and had very great reviews. So I am stuck there on what I should do with this project. This is kind of sad.
On Hold : Friends. I am kind of stuck with this game. But the work I did for this project allowed me to develop my ludum dare entry : Seed. So here what should I do? Take more time to release something or ditch the project altogether?
On Hold : CapNeuro. This is BCI experiment I wanted to share with other Haxe fellows. However I have no idea whether anyone may be interested by this project. And as it needs some additional work to be 'portable' I think i postpone until someone asks.
Done : Seed (Ludum Dare)
Done : Strange Masks
Done : Berlin Linuxtag BCI project
Done : CapSciences BCI project ( CapNeuro)
Done : Tiny Failures (Ludum Dare)
So now this is done I am a little bit relieved. I see that I've successfully released projects. But now I have to set my mind about both the active projects and the projects on hold.
So here what's I am going to do :
Seed will remain active in a bêta state which will eventually allow me to build something fun and try many things until I come to a great game and successfully build a tribe around the game.
Strange Masks Extended will remain on Hold because I want to push it and I can already feel some motivation to finish this version.
I am going to finish a version of Friends right now for the One Game a Month. This will be my entry for May. So this project is going active this very week with a deadline set on Friday.
CapNeuro my latest BCI experiment will be marked as done and if someone from the Haxe community wants me to share some insights I will be pleased to do so :)
Ok I can breathe now :)
Have a nice day! And have fun with your projects!
News #1 : Ok just so you know Seed has now officially been promoted to get a decent series of enhancements and updates. I will work on it to get a great enjoyable polished version with some new mechanics and improved gameplay. And the best part is : the bêta version will be free :)
News #2 :
Thinkslow's web site has been updated. You can now get access to all the previously released games. I have always postponed this update but given the fact that I have released many things I am now going to concentrate more on the "ThinkSlow" label :)
News # 3 :
Did I tell you how how I appreciate your ideas and feedback ? So don't hesitate to send me tweet (twitter link above) or a mail (on your left)
Have a fantastic day!
Good/bad for my Ego :)
These are the Ludum Dare Ratings for Seed, my minimalist game. I am happy of these results considering I was in competition with 2345 game developers :)
So I ranked #29 for Innovation which is very good news indeed for the game. I think with more work I can really improve the fun factor and of course the audio which was supposed to be a core element of the gameplay... But I failed to work on that part.
Anyway, thanks to everybody for playing and rating... And don't forget you can still download the game, send me comments and even ideas if you wish :)
Hi everybody, hope you started your day wonderfully (is that english?)!
This morning while I am working on my little Mindwave game I wanted to use TexturePacker on OpenSuse but as it comes as a .deb and since I did not want to convert the .deb to a .rpm using Alien and preferred to know what was going to be installed, I did it by hand.
So here a simple how-to in case you want to do it too :
Download the Ubuntu 64bit version (2.40) there.
open the .deb
uncompress data.tar.gz
copy the contents of subdir usr/lib in /usr/lib64
copy the executable located under usr/bin in the folder you wish to install TexturePacker to
chmod +x TexturePacker
make a script to start it with the following command : ./TexturePacker --gui
That's it! Then you can buy a license to use it or use the free essential mode.
Note : TexturePacker is not upgraded anymore on Linux since its 2.40 version but it can be used nonetheless with Haxe/NME using Philippe Elsass tilelayer lib using sparrow tilesheets so that's not really a problem for us Linux Haxe devs :)
