Chiron
Father Figure Pt. 2
Part One Part Two
It took a good few days but Chiron eventually insisted to the olympians that it was vital they have a meeting.
You’re nervous and unwilling as you follow him up the mountain, not taking in any of the words he’s saying.
As you approach the huge building your stomach starts to churn.
Despite your fear and discomfort you follow him in, trusting him to keep you safe and help you find answers.
That confidence totally dissipates as you step into the throne room, all of the 12 Olympians and Hades are bickering amongst themselves.
Chiron clears his throat and gently pushes you forward, you swallow thickly as you stand before them all.
Zeus stares at you blankly. “This is the kid?”
“Yes.” Chiron doesn’t seem threatened at all and you try to lean closer to him.
Hera snorts. “That’s it? They’re tiny.”
Your cheeks heat and you try to duck behind Chiron but he stops you.
“Well I believe they have potential. They’ve shown real promise in the short training sessions we’ve had, real power.”
It’s Athena’s turn to speak up, intrigued. “Like what?”
Chiron gently nudges you. “Show them.”
You splutter, shaking your head. “I-I can’t.. I-“
Zeus’s voice cuts you off, booming. “You can’t? I thought you were a demi-god, huh?”
“I am I just-“
“Then do it.”
You go to speak again but the glare he fixes you with makes you freeze.
“I.. need something to.. fire at..”
Zeus snaps his fingers and a servant brings in a few dummies.
It takes you a minute to build your courage, screwing your eyes shut and pretending they’re not there.
When you open your eyes they’re pure black, the gods watch as you focus, your irises change from your regular blue, then green, then grey, then they look like a burning fire, before finally going solid gold as the dummies evaporate without you even moving; all in a matter of seconds.
Your eyes return to normal but nobody moves for a moment, shocked.
You look over at Chiron, nervous, he speaks up for you. “Well.. now you see why I brought them here..”
Zeus clears his throat. “Yes.. I can’t say I’ve seen anything like.. THAT.. before..”
“Hence why I’d like to determine their parentage to better understand their powers and how they will develop.”
You stand awkwardly as the gods chatter quietly, looking at Chiron for reassurance. He pulls you into a comforting hug, not his usual style but he knew you seemed to calm at physical contact.
Suddenly, interrupting the gods’ conversation, you let out a strange demonic sounding scream. You would’ve collapsed if you weren’t in Chiron’s hold, lashing around as you gripped at your head.
You manage to break from his hold, trying to run out but Zeus waves his hand and the doors slam. You collapse to the floor, writhing in pain. You retch, clawing at your own throat as a thick black substance bubbles and spills from your throat.
The strange gooey looking liquid disappears as you start to shake violently, then you still and stand up as if nothing happened.
You look around, genuinely confused at the strange looks. “What..?”
Apollo speaks up now. “Okay.. I’ve seen a lot of strange powers but what in Tartarus was THAT?!”
A look of genuine confusion takes over your face as you look around, seemingly unaware of the little episode you’d just had.
Part One Part Two
Typically Chiron wouldn’t venture into the cabins, but this was different, you hadn’t come out in two days. Nobody had seen you, let alone spoken to you, he wasn’t even sure you’d eaten.
You had been put in the Artemis cabin since your arrival last week, another unclaimed half blood, usually you’d be put in the Hermes cabin but based on your timid demeanour he decided and empty cabin would be better until you settled.
He knocks before pushing the door open gently, speaking softly. “Kid.. you in here..?”
He sees the small mountain of blankets on the bunk, correctly assuming you’d curled up within it. You give no response other than curling up impossibly smaller.
He steps slightly closer, leaving considerable space. “I know you’re probably overwhelmed.. you’re in a totally new place, with no friends, and the realisation that the gods are real.. I know it’s a lot but you can’t just stay in here forever”
He gets a small, shaky, response now. “Yes I can..”
He chuckles slightly. “No, you can’t.. come on why don’t we go get you some food, hm?”
You mumble back at him. “Not hungry..”
He huffs and steps closer. “Come on kiddo.. you need to eat”
The next response he gets is more hostile, accompanied by a scoff. “Like you care if I eat..”
“Look, whether or not you believe me I AM trying to help y-“
He’s cut off by you bursting out of the blankets, glaring at him. “No you’re not! You don’t care about me! Nobody in this godforsaken place does! You say I have a godly parent but where are they, huh?! Who is it?!”
“There’s no way for me to-“
“EXACTLY! You don’t know and you don’t care to find out!”
“I am trying to get a hold of-“
“NO! YOURE NOT! You’re not trying at all, you’re here fussing that I need to eat- what I NEED is answers!”
Typically he wouldn’t let a camper yell at him like this but the tears brimming your eyes is enough for him to know this anger isn’t really aimed at him.
“Look.. I know you don’t want to be here, I know you’re upset, but I’m doing all I can to help..”
He expected more yelling, he knew you wanted answers he couldn’t provide and he knew how frustrating that could be. What he didn’t expect was to have to catch you as you crumpled to the floor, broken sobs wracking you.
He gathered you in his arms and folded his legs to sit on the floor. “Okay.. it’s okay..”
You just sobbed harder, choking on your words as you attempted to speak. “Shh.. it’s okay.. we’ll figure it out..”
You’re home alone this weekend, since your parents are on a work trip, and meant to be coming to dinner to meet him mom this evening.
The last thing Percy expected when he answered the home phone was the sounds of you crying.
“Can you come over..?”
He was thinking of the fastest way to get to you before you finished choking out the question. “Are you okay?”
“Yes.. just- come.. please?”
“On my way.”
Was it a 20 minute walk to your place? Yes. Was he willing to risk being seen riding blackjack in order to get to you sooner? Also yes.
He’d just have to bank on the strength of the mist, anything to make sure you’re safe and fix whatever had happened.
Just under 4 minutes pass and he’s knocking softly on your door.
You open it, peeking out, and his heart shatters at the sight of tears streaking your cheeks. He’s pulled you into his chest before you can even say hello.
Just as quickly as he hugs you does he pull back to check you over. “What happened? Are you hurt?”
You shake your head and pout up at him, bottom lip trembling. “I can’t do anything..”
He picks you up and steps into the apartment, sitting on the couch with you in his lap.
All of his senses are painfully alert, he can smell something baked and he picks up on the slight mess of the place.
“What are you talking about? What can’t you do?”
He lets you hide your face in his neck, sniffling and mumbling. “I was trying to make something to bring to dinner..”
“Oh baby..” The fingers sinking into your hair only seem to make the tears come quicker.
He just holds you for a while, letting you cry, only speaking when you start to settle. “You want to show me, hm? Maybe I can help..”
As you stand up you refuse to let go of him, clutching his hand. “Okay.. but you can’t laugh..”
He kisses your forehead as he stands. “Of course not.”
You lead him to the small kitchen, which is in an absolute state, in the middle of the mess sits a very green loaf of banana bread.
He raises an eyebrow at you, waiting for some kind of explanation.
“I wanted to make banana bread for your mom, make a good first impression.. and I know she likes blue foods”
You sniffle and he has to hold back a smile, not amused, touched by how much you care if his mom likes you.
“I forgot that banana bread was naturally yellow and the blue food dye made it all green..”
“She won’t mind, love, she’ll just appreciate the thought.“
Immediate regret hits him as he watches your eyes fill with tears again. “I wanted it to be blue..”
He pulls you into another hug, trying to think of something to cheer you up.
You melt into him as he mumbles into your hair. “Well.. how about you keep the banana bread and we can make something else? How does that sound?”
He feels you nod against him and pulls away to see what else you have.
5 minutes of quiet planning later and he smiles at you. “Okay, I’m going to go to the shop and grab the rest of the ingredients we need to make brownies.”
You frown at him slightly. “That’s not blue..”
“No but we’re gonna make blue icing to go on it. Does that sound good?”
He has to catch himself on the counter as you launch yourself into his arms.
You spend an hour messing around and making brownies together, kissing between steps and cuddling as it bakes.
Your smile is blinding as you give the dessert to Miss Jackson, ignoring her insistence to call her Sally.
Percy spends his night giddy as he watches the two people he loves most get on so well.
That along with the kiss he receives after walking you home makes the 10 dollars he spent on ingredients infinitely worth it.
Percy had just assumed you were being your usual sweet self when you wandered over and handed him a glass of water, it was a hot day.
He was about to take a sip, assuming you’re just looking after him as one of the younger apollo campers, before you spoke up. “Make it pretty, Percy”
He stared at you, brow cocked up under his messy black hair. “What..?”
You pout slightly, insisting more. “Make it pretty!”
It takes him a minute to fully process what exactly you’re asking of him. When he realises he does comply, focusing his attention onto making the water move in a way to create a shape for you.
You gasp and giggle excitedly as the water hovers out of the glass, forming a slightly messy but definitely legible letter - your initial.
He huffs out an amused laugh as your hands clap together. A bit of the water breaks away from the rest and he sends it splashing over your cheeks, flushed from the heat of the day.
The glass is quickly discarded on the floor as you tackle him to the soft grass, wrestling playfully.
