Absolutely bricked up for every player going after those shit-ass boys
“You slipped into your favorite hoodie, a pencil skirt, tights, and your beat up high top sneakers.”
I absolutely fucking did not.

Whalers Night 2026
I've been taking an NHL break for 2 years - what have I missed? Who do we hate? Who do we love?
Would you guys mind if I became a football whore instead?
Uncharted Territory
It was brief - a look I caught as he walked past me in the hallway. His eyes crinkled at the corner as he shot me a smile to cover up the glance he didn't want me to see.
Lust?
I noticed it again a few days later as I leaned over my desk to point out an error in the spreadsheet he had splayed out in front of him. His eyes flickered to my chest before they rose to met mine and his cheeks flushed a deep pink. I could feel warmth in my face as I blushed too, pulling my shoulders back to subtly adjust my top.
I'd mumbled a sorry and sat back but there was a heat under my collar and I let my mind wander. His glasses sat on the end of his nose, a pen tucked between his fore and middle finger, and I took stock of his hands. His strong arms and tan skin, more exposed as he rolled his sleeves up. There was a tuft of hair peeking out from the undone button at the top of his shirt.
I felt overstimulated, suddenly incredibly aware of him and all of his small details. The rasp in his voice, the way he raised his eyebrow and fought a smile at every one of my comments that toed the line of professionalism, the heavy sigh he'd let out in an attempt to mask his amusement.
He was sexy. The thought crept into my mind slowly, a fraction of an inch towards the forefront with every other interaction, until something happened that pushed it front and center. Like an alarm going off, it was impossible to ignore from that point forward.
He was in a suit - we all were - despite the heat and humidity. A charcoal gray set with a dark blue tie tight around his neck. I could see a bead of sweat rolling down the side of his face as I approached him. We shot the breeze for a moment and I'd started to offer him a water from the vending machine when a voice rang out.
He spotted the man before me, red-faced and yelling as he neared us. Adrenaline rushed through me at the idea of confrontation but he beat me to it, stepping between myself and the irate stranger before I had a chance to react. Something shifted in that moment.
He's protective of me. He protected me. Arousal sent a brief wave of numbness through my body and I stood back on my heels to watch. His voice faded off and I took the moment to admire him.
Have his shoulders always been that broad? The taper of his waist. It has to be the fit of the suit, right?
I was arguing with myself until he turned back to me.
"Are you okay?"
I nodded, mentally brushing away any dirty thoughts that had popped up while he had his back to me, and he cleared his throat.
"Sorry, you were saying?"
"Hmm?"
"You were saying something. Before that dick started-"
"Water." I was thankful that my train of thought seemed to hop back onto the track in that moment and I looked up at him. "Do you want a water?"
"I'm alright."
"You sure? It's hot out here and at your age..."
The smile he cracked sent a surge of arousal through me again and I clenched my fist at my side. It was a bit between us. I'd managed to widen the small age gap we had, adding a few more years each time it came up, and he loved it. He'd never admit it but I could see the grin he'd fight and how his brain would work to counter any insult I threw his way.
"I'm good but thank you."
I shrugged and turned on my heel, heading back to the air conditioning of my office. There was a small fan on my desk, set on high, and I turned it to face me directly as soon as I sat down.
Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.
There was something under the attraction, a thick layer of dread sitting in my stomach like a layer of sludge.
He's off limits. I had to remind myself as I settled my fingers on my keyboard. Not an option.
I spent the better part of the next hour fighting off filthy daydreams before calling it a day. The afternoon, busy with errands and battling traffic, proved to be a great distraction, and I drifted off into a fitful sleep under the ray of light from the streetlamp outside of my window. I woke up telling myself I was fine, that yesterday was a fluke and I'd hit a new point of desperation after a dry spell.
I'd managed to chalk it up to loneliness by the time I'd fought through morning rush hour and settled into the elevator. The doors were closing slowly when a hand shot through to catch them.
Please, no.
They reopened to him standing there and my stomach sank. His cheeks were peppered with freckles and a pink stain from being outside for so long the day before. He had one strap of a backpack slung over his shoulder and he nodded at me.
"Do you mind if I join you?" I shook my head and stepped aside as he got onto the elevator car. "I know you were hitting the door close button."
He glanced at me through the mirrored doors and raised an eyebrow, waiting for my witty retort, but it never came. I was distracted, off of my game, and I panicked for a response before he sensed it.
"Seemed inhumane making an old man like you take the stairs."
The laugh, the rasp in it and the way he shook his head, shot right through me. He's attractive to me now. I was barreling down the slippery slope that any hopeless romantic knows well and there was nothing to stop me.
It felt like this new crush had doubled in size on the quick ride up to our office bank and it sat on my chest like a weight.
"You okay?"
"What? Yeah, I'm good."
"You sure? You seem a little checked out." He grabbed my coffee cup and swished it, tilting his head suggestively. "You sure it's just coffee in here?"
The implication made me laugh and I nodded. "Just coffee. You know I only drink at work on odd days."
"Well you may need another. Let me know if you want some company to the cafeteria for another cup."
"Will do, boss."
He chuckled and held out an arm, nodding for me to go ahead while he held the door. A gentleman, I said to myself. Another thing on the list I'd started in my head the day prior.
Protective, funny, a gentleman...
I told myself to knock it off, to keep him in the same old place in my head. My boss, direct report, a gigantic pain in my side on a daily basis. Something had changed and I was in uncharted territory with him now.
The Lordt gave me mental illness because otherwise I'd be too powerful with my phenomenal tits and dazzling personality. It's called balance.
I need to get out my crazy romantic tendencies so that I don't scare off either of the guys I'm seeing so I'm gonna start a new fic that's just romance and smut so when I see either of them, I'm cool as a cucumber. Not gonna name any specific guy so you all can imagine with me
I think this is gonna work.

Skip Over It 16
I leaned back against the cold concrete wall and kept my eyes on the ice as Laura waxed on about inventory. Her voice faded as the sound of sticks against pucks grew louder, signaling the start of practice. Dougie stood out among the rest of the team and my chest tightened as I watched him chew on his bottom lip in focus.
"Chloe? Chloeeeee?" Laura waved her hand in front of my face and snapped twice, her brows raised when I turned to look at her. "Are you listening to me?"
I considered lying for a moment before shaking my head no. She looked to where I'd been staring and frowned.
"Have you guys talked at all since the fight?"
"Nope."
"I'm sorry."
"Me too." I took one last look at the ice before turning to go to my office, taking a list from Laura's hands and looking it over. "I'm going to place an order. Will you keep an eye out during the scrimmage?"
"Sure thing. Holler if you need me."
"Will do, thanks."
My body felt heavy, shoulders tight as I sunk into the chair behind my desk. Sleep, restful sleep at least, had eluded me since he'd slammed my door and fighting the urge to call him a dozen times per night hadn't helped. My bed felt empty without him. Wrapped in cold sheets and surrounded by the faint lingering smell of his cologne salted the wounds this whole ordeal had left but, try as I might, I couldn't bring myself to wash the bedding.
I opened my laptop and began typing in the order request, zoning out while staring at the bright screen. A quiet knock at the door snapped me out of my trance and I got up to answer it.
He looked down at me, a thin sheen of sweat on his face and a rolled up paper towel sticking out of each nostril. I couldn't help but laugh, a gut reaction, before sobering myself up.
"I'm sorry, I-"
"I tripped."
"Clearly." He let me take his hand and guide him down the hall to the exam room, staying quiet until I'd shut the door behind us. He moved to lie down and I pulled him up, motioning for him to lean forward before I turned to wash my hands. "What'd you hit?"
"The boards."
"How hard?" He looked up as I slipped on a pair of gloves and I noticed bruising already forming under his eyes. His pupils reacted to the pen light when I pointed it into his eyes and I tucked it into my pocket before stepping closer. "Any dizziness? Nausea?"
"Not yet."
"How's your head feeling?"
"It's fine. I mostly caught my-" He winced as I touched his face and I stopped. "My nose."
"I can see that." I reached for him again and gingerly ran my fingers down either side of the bridge of his nose, keeping my eyes on his as I felt for any cartilage damage. "Good news is that it's not broken."
"And the bad news?"
"You're gonna look a little rough for a week or two."
"That'll devastate my fans."
I grabbed a few gauze pads and rolled them up before looking back to him. He tilted his head back so I could remove the paper towels and replace them. I held his chin in place with my free hand and deja vu hit me like a train.
I thought about the last time we'd been this close, the last time he'd leaned down to kiss me and wrapped his arms around my waist. The feel of his strong chest under my fingertips and the taste of his salty skin flew to the forefront of my mind and I blinked a few times to fight off tears.
"I think they'll recover." I rolled my gloves off and turned away, tossing them in the trash can before washing my hands again. "If it helps, you're rugged enough to pull it off."
He chuckled quietly and clasped his hands together, leaning forward with his elbows on his knees. I sat back against the counter and we settled into a stiff silence for an agonizing few minutes and I broke it by rummaging through the cabinet for an instant ice pack.
His eyes were on me when I turned back to him and he raised a brow as I slammed the pack onto the counter. I grabbed a towel to wrap it in and bundled it with some medical tape before holding it out to him.
"No more than fifteen minutes at a time- twenty tops."
"Chloe-"
"Any longer and you could damage the skin. And you need to let one of us know if you start to feel any dizziness or nausea. Or if you start getting headaches, blurred vision, lapses in memory, things like that."
I started towards the door but he said my name again, a desperation in his voice that matched how I'd been feeling for the past few days. I stopped with my hand on the knob and took a deep breath before turning to look at him again.
"Are you okay?"
"Yeah, I'm fine." The hurt in his eyes filled me with regret and I shook my head. "No, Dougie. I'm not."
"Good." He breathed a sigh of relief and stood up as I crossed my arms over my chest. "Not- no, I didn't mean it like that. I just... I don't know what I'd do if you were cool with all of this."
"I'm not. I hate this."
"I do too." He stepped closer, reaching a hand out to wrap around my arm. I let him pull me close and fell against his chest in a moment of weakness. Everything hit me all at once and I balled my fists up in the fabric of his practice jersey as I began to cry. He ran his hand up and down my back a few times and I fought to compose myself.
"I miss you so much."
"I miss you too baby." He took my face in his hand and lifted it to look at him, his face twisted in pain. I was overwhelmed with the urge to kiss him and he must've felt it too because he dropped his head.
"Dougie-" He stopped just short and took in a sharp breath. "That door doesn't lock."
He dropped his arms but stayed close for a few more seconds before stepping back. I cleared my throat and grabbed a tissue from the box on the counter, wiping my eyes as quickly as I could. I checked my appearance in the mirror on the back of the door and caught his gaze in the reflection.
"You look beautiful."
I smiled as best as I could before turning to look at him one more time, reaching out to take his hand in mine. "Can we talk about this later? Tonight?"
He nodded slowly and followed with a sharp yes. "Of course. Can I come over?"
"I'd like that."
"Good. Me too."
