people in the carrie tag be like "omg carrie was literally fat in the book why does no one talk ever about this" my sibling in christ, that's ALL you people EVER talk about
So I'm dissecting the new trailer for Mike Flanagan's "Carrie" TV series that's coming this autumn, and I've picked up on a few interesting things!
Chris is playing the long-con this time around by pretending she's Carrie's friend, inviting her to social hangouts and parties and just making her feel welcome for the first time in her life. I actually really like this new development because it's gonna make the misery Chris puts Carrie through feel all the more treacherous and cruel.
2) Chris and her friends play another horrible joke on Carrie at a party prior to the prom, as Carrie is seen stumbling home covered in red paint (definitely not in a prom dress). They also seem to be recording the lead-up to the prank, possibly to share it online or at the prom itself (similar to the 2013 version).
3) The Black Prom and Chamberlain Massacre looks like they're going to be a lot closer to the book's version of events. I can't speak to the Springtime in Venice theming that the book's prom went with, but it still looks glamorous and dazzling.
There's a single shot of the Black Prom from outside the gym doors, which I believe is Carrie's perspective (due to her being absent from the stage). This is in-line with the book's version of events, in which Carrie stumbles out of the gymnasium before making the active decision to return and kill everybody inside. This differs from all the movie adaptations, in which Carrie remains on the stage and uses her telekinesis to kill everybody (knowingly or otherwise, it's a bit more ambiguous in the 2002 adaptation).
There are also at least two dead bodies on the stage (obviously one of them is Tommy, the other could be the principal or Miss Desjardin), and the students all die from electrocution (notice the water splashing on the floor as they all collapse).
Chamberlain is also completely on fire, just like in the book, something that only the 2002 version adapted (the 2013 version barely even did and the 1976 version simply didn't).
Also, we have a single shot of Carrie stumbling home, barefoot in her blood-soaked gown.
I was apprehensive about the new series, due to the liberties Flanagan was taking with the source material while adhering to the same "pretty white girl" casting trope that has been applied to Carrie since the 1976 movie, but this trailer has made me more cautiously optimistic.
God doesn’t love you. Not like I do.
