Second day of Halloween
Hey guys!
So I went ahead and interviewed my father for this bit. I decided to ask him,
“What was the most impressionable horror movie you saw when you were young?”
“Oh man, back in my day in Cuba, we would all round up at the nearest corner at 6pm and exchange VHS tapes amongst ourselves. We looked through the tapes that we had gotten that day and among those tapes was Hellraiser. Let me tell you, when I saw those hooks spring out of that box; I mean just the way they dug into the skin, that was some seriously disturbing stuff. I was about 25-26 years old when I first saw that and I was terrified.”
Lets dive right into Pandora’s box with this one!
[SPOILERS]
Clive Barker’s World:
“Pinhead” from Clive Barker’s “Hellraiser” 1987
I just want to get this right out of the way before it kills me *ahem* BDSM and masochism, like sooo much BDSM and masochism. Now I know that shit like Cronenberg and Lynch tends to throw itself at full throttle into the deep side of “odd” or “displeasing to the human stomach”, but there’s nothing quite like Hellraiser. As a kid I thought of it more as “Skinraiser” because as soon as anything such as the infamous chains jump out of the puzzle box or a close up of Chartterer’s face popped on screen, I’d slowly start to feel my skin crawl and the hairs on my arm rise straight up.
“Frank pretending to be Larry” in Clive Barker’s “Hellraiser” 1987
No fucker, help me, I was like 9 when I saw this guys. As I stated before, there was so much of an erotic torture vibe coming from the Cenobites. They all wear black leather outfits that have something to do with their facial or body “torments” that cause them some form of pain or another. They each have their own mutilated features, but all share the same quest for pain and pleasure. I mean, realistically I thought they were all each creatively designed, just a little fetishy.
Overall:
I really think it’s a wickedly good movie, not for the faint of heart, but definitely my type of shindig. If haven’t seen it, stop what you’re doing, no really, stop, and go watch this.
Right. Now.
