“I could never get so lucky. Once they lower the casket half way into the ground, I’ll be on my way to the airport to get back to JFK as sooner than you can say Bon Voyage.” Peyton joked, though she wasn’t exactly serious. It was easier to speak on her urge to get back to city life rather than bask in the lifestyle of Peach Hollow that she’d officially out grown and felt too good for. A year and a half ago, she was falling in love with the hometown mechanic and the way in which the crickets and toads sang a nighttime chorus. But now she was in love with the city that called her away from this town that had nothing left for her but disapproving looks and the demons on her past. Her eyes watched at Winnie brought the delicious treat to life, making her lick her redden stained lips. “I think I deserve this after getting the coldest of shoulders from Grease Stain this morning. I hope this cupcake goes straight to my ass so I have another reason to stunt on his gasoline-smelling, coolant sipping ass.” Peyton sighed softly as she peeled back the paper on the edible, sinking her teeth into the moist cake before chewing. She pushed back her ginger curls as she continued talking, not paying any mind to the calories or even the fact she was housing an entire edible. “Let me get this straight. You want me to come back here and start throwing extravagant parties? F. Scott Fitzgerald is not writing this narrative, Win. I will not Gatsby that greasy monkey wrench back into my life. Beside, Leo aside, why am I going to throwing amazing parties for people who are already below me? I don’t need to gain their respect or praise, I don’t want to hang out with anyone here anyways. Just waiting for Nan to..” Peyton motioned her long acrylic nail across her throat as she craned her neck to the side, sticking her tongue out playfully. “The cupcake is good. We should have a two person party. With about a dozen of these.. and go to the moon.”
it was hard for winnie to grow attached to people. in the end, they normally left her. she was a lot to handle with her career and her personality. peyton, however, shared her outwardly cold demeanor which meant they were on the same wavelength. peyton had become one of her only friends, and though she was thrilled to have her back, winnie knew better than to think she'd stay. as the redhead spoke of leo, winnie couldn't help but smirk. "you saw him, huh?" she questioned, piping another cupcake only for her to devour it in a few short moments. "i take it that didn't go as expected. he's gotten cold in his old age. i took my car in for an oil change and tried to make small talk," she chuckled. "i think my association with you might have made an impression on him," she wiggled her brows, finally placing the piping tube on the counter. "wait, wait --" she shuffled to the back of the bakery, pulling a bottle of champagne out. "we're past the 'you have cooties' stage, right? because i don't have any glasses," she didn't have a cork screw there either, it seemed. she grabbed a butcher knife and stabbed the top of the cork, twisting it until it popped. the bottle was to her lips in mere seconds. after a few healthy gulps, winnie shoved the bottle in peyton's direction, then bit into her own cupcake, nodding in approval. "i am damn good at my job, aren't i?" she finished up the confection without any hesitation. "i have a dozen in the back but if you want to go to the moon, i have molly back here too."
